03:09I suppose old Nana the Bear and her cubs are about bedded down for the winter. Yoo-hoo! Anyone home?
03:17Hiya, Mr. Ranger. Hey, Mom, Mr. Ranger's here.
03:23Hey, look out!
03:27Oops! Sorry, Mr. Ranger.
03:30Oh, that's all right, kid. I'm used to an unusual welcome around here. About ready to call it a season, Nana?
03:38Oh, that's for sure. I was just about to tuck the cubs in for the winter.
03:46Oh, we don't want to go to bed.
03:49Typical kids.
03:51Yep. We're not worth a darn without a good four-month sleep. Oh, hope my lumbago doesn't act up this winter.
04:02I guess middle age is creeping up on you. So long. Have a pleasant winter.
04:07Goodbye, Mr. Ranger. Oh, Chinook, Nekome, come on in. It's hibernation time.
04:14Coming, Mom. So long, Mr. Ranger.
04:18Oh, Nekome! Chinook!
04:22Coming, Mom!
04:24Looks like it's gonna snow.
04:47Ah, the first snowfall of the winter. It's almost that time of the year again.
05:05Sleigh bells and snowmen. Yep, soon it'll be Christmas Day.
05:12Oh, which reminds me. About time I went out and cut me down a fine Christmas tree.
05:19There's something wonderful about this time of the year. Makes a man feel good about living.
05:27Warms him up deep down inside and all over.
05:42Oh, Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, jingle all the way.
05:56Oh, Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, jingle all the way.
06:01Humming.
06:06Who wants to sleep when it's snowing all over everything?
06:11Nekome! Chinook! Are you kids coming to bed?
06:15In a minute, Mom.
06:17Look, Chinook, it's Mr. Ranger.
06:24I wonder what he's doing out in the snow.
06:27Let's go find out.
06:30Whoop! Yipe!
06:39Hey, this one's perfect. About the right size and height, too.
06:53Oh, my!
07:00We're awfully sorry, Mr. Ranger, sir.
07:14W-w-w-what happened?
07:16Uh, well, we kind of got all snowballed up.
07:20Nekome and Chinook, I might have known. You cubs get into everything, even snowballs.
07:28Hey, you kids had better get home and start hibernating.
07:32You know how your mom is. She can be a real bear when she's angry.
07:37Look, I made her funny.
07:48Now, stand back, kids.
07:51What you gonna do with that ax?
07:53What? I'm going to cut down this Christmas tree.
07:57What's a Christmas tree?
08:01And what's a Christmas?
08:03Oh, Christmas is, well, uh, Christmas is a time for good cheer.
08:10Singing carols and exchanging gifts.
08:13Everyone is bubbling and happy.
08:16People are at their best around Christmas time.
08:21Sounds like fun.
08:23How come we never had a Christmas?
08:26Oh, well, I suppose it's because you're bears.
08:29And bears hibernate through Christmas.
08:35Timber!
08:50What else happens at Christmas, Mr. Ranger?
08:53Oh, lots of wonderful things.
08:55Marshmallow rolls, dancing around a warm fireplace, playing games.
09:00Well, it's been nice, but you'd better be getting home before your mom misses you.
09:05Chinook, Nicole, will you please come home?
09:10We must get some sleep.
09:12Coming, Mom.
09:24Let's ask her about Christmas.
09:33Hey, Mom, wake up. We want to talk to you.
09:37Oh, uh, uh, uh, uh, Mom.
09:40Tell us about Christmas, please.
09:43Uh-huh.
09:44Uh-huh.
09:45What's a Christmas?
09:47Christmas is a time for good cheer.
09:50Hi, Mom.
09:51Uh-huh.
09:52What's a Christmas?
09:55You know, presents and candy and lots of goodies.
09:59Uh, well, I really don't think I know much about it.
10:10Aw, come on, Mom.
10:12Mr. Ranger told us this was the best time of the year.
10:15Why, of course it is, children.
10:18That's when we get our sleep.
10:21Quick, grab her.
10:23It's no use. She's out like a light.
10:27Maybe Mr. Ranger has a Christmas at his house that we can see.
10:31Come on.
10:34Wintertime
10:43Wintertime
10:46Time to gather together
10:51Boys and girls
10:54Longing for a blinder of light
11:00The ice we call, the blist'ring winds that cool the weather
11:09They should bring the tinkling sounds of a wintry choir
11:17This wintertime, it's a holiday season
11:26Come and dance, join in with the boys
11:35For the skies can give us no reason
11:43A winter's holy delight at this great and morning light
11:52This wintertime, for when we love
12:05Wintertime, it's a holiday season
12:14Come and dance, join in with the boys
12:22For the skies can give us no reason
12:30A winter's holy delight at this great and morning light
12:39This wintertime, for when we love
13:01Let's take the shortcut.
13:03We can cut across the lake. It's frozen over.
13:08You're slippery, isn't you?
13:10See, I'm cutting it strong.
13:18Look out!
13:25Come on, Chinook. Mr. Range's cabin is just over the hill.
13:30Golly, look.
13:38Look what Mr. Ranger did to his tree.
13:42It's beautiful.
13:50He's fixing his cabin up with all kinds of pretty decorations.
13:56Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way
14:02Bless my hat band. I just get all choked up at Christmas.
14:08Oh, hi, Nekomi and Chinook.
14:12Nekomi and Chinook?
14:14Oh, I'm so sorry, Chinook.
14:16Oh, I'm so sorry, Chinook.
14:18Oh, I'm so sorry, Chinook.
14:20Oh, I'm so sorry, Chinook.
14:23Nekomi and Chinook?
14:25But they're in hibernation.
14:28I think.
14:30What on earth are you cubs doing here?
14:32We came to hear all about the Christmas fun.
14:35Everyone has while us bears are sleeping.
14:39Look. Look at the tree.
14:41And look at the presents.
14:44Oh, boy. Shiny balls and sparkly stuff.
14:49Wait, you two.
14:51Stay out of my decorations, please.
14:55Yippee! Yahoo!
14:57Hooray for Christmas!
15:00Now, kids, try to control yourselves.
15:03Hey, Chinook, look over here.
15:06Little white tasty looking mushy things.
15:09Bet they taste just scrummy.
15:13As a matter of fact, they do.
15:15As a matter of fact, they do.
15:17But just one, Chinook.
15:19Me too, Mr. Ranger?
15:21Of course.
15:25Really, you cubs should be home.
15:28Your mother will be worried sick.
15:30But we want to hear all about Christmas.
15:34Yeah, we never had one of them.
15:37Tell us about it, Mr. Ranger.
15:40Please. Huh?
15:42Pretty please? With honey on it?
15:44Well, now...
15:46Wait a minute, kids.
15:51Tell you what.
15:52If I let you in on the story of Christmas,
15:55will you promise to go home?
15:57We promise! Cross our hearts!
16:00Okay, fine.
16:02Well, let's see.
16:04It all began a very long time ago.
16:09Something very wonderful happened.
16:12A little child was born to the family of Mary and Joseph
16:17in a place called Bethlehem.
16:19Is that in Yellowstone Park?
16:21Oh, no. It's far, far away.
16:24Well, anyway, this little child
16:27brought a gift to the world of peace on Earth
16:30and goodwill toward men.
16:32And even to this day,
16:35people still give presents on this child's birthday,
16:38which we call Christmas.
16:40And over the years,
16:42many legends built up around Christmas.
16:45What kind of legends?
16:47Oh, I guess the most famous one
16:49is the story of Santa Claus.
16:51What's a Santa Claus?
16:53Can we eat it?
16:55Oh, no, no.
16:57Here. Maybe I can explain it to you more easily
17:00with a pencil and paper.
17:03First of all,
17:05this is where we live.
17:08It's called the world.
17:11You mean it's round?
17:13That's right.
17:15And at the very top
17:17is a place known as the North Pole.
17:20And this is where a little old man
17:23with a belly that shakes like a bowl full of jelly
17:26lives all year long
17:28with his eight reindeer
17:30and many, many little helpers called elves.
17:33What do the elves do up there?
17:35Well, it's said they work all year long
17:38making toys for Santa Claus
17:40to deliver to children all over the world
17:42on Christmas Eve.
17:44Let the top of the world
17:53in a land white with snow
17:57live a kind of toy people
18:00that only children know.
18:04Dragon toy soldiers
18:07and toy puppy dogs.
18:11Tiny toy dogs dressed in story books
18:16are
18:18booger dog ponies
18:21and soft teddy bears.
18:25Toy bunny rats
18:28with long furry ears.
18:33They all live together
18:37at the Northern North Pole.
18:41Happy and cheery
18:44as old Mary King told.
18:48Candy stripes monkeys
18:51and stirring toy tigers.
18:55Cream colored camels
18:58and toy camel riders.
19:02Fluffy toy kittens
19:05and wooly toy lambs.
19:09Toy elephants
19:12by a marching toy band.
19:22There is real and
19:25There is real and alive
19:29as both you and I.
19:33The world of toy people
19:36seen through
19:38children's eyes.
19:44And so with Santa on his way
19:48kids everywhere wait happily
19:51for Christmas stockings
19:53filled with goodies.
19:55Gee, what a beautiful pretty story.
20:01Well, you cubs better be getting on home.
20:06Oh, thank you, Mr. Ranger.
20:08That was a terrific story.
20:11Good.
20:12Now run along home, kids.
20:23Bye, Mr. Ranger.
20:25Bye.
20:26See you next spring.
20:37Cute little kids, those two.
20:49Maybe Mom will let us have a Christmas.
20:52She might even let us stay up until Santa Claus comes.
20:56That's a real nice jubilee.
21:07Hey, look.
21:09See what I see, Tommy?
21:11Oh, boy.
21:13A beautiful little Christmas tree.
21:16Wow.
21:17Must be the prettiest one in Yellowstone Park.
21:21Come on.
21:22Let's take it home.
21:26But how?
21:27It won't shake loose.
21:29Maybe we can break it up.
21:40Keep tugging, McCombie.
21:43This thing is going to snap.
21:46Oh, boy.
21:48Oh, boy.
21:50Oh, boy.
21:52Oh, boy.
21:54This thing is going to snap.
22:17It's too big a tree.
22:20You mean we're too little.
22:23What's a Christmas without a Christmas tree?
22:27Hey, wait.
22:29Mom could break that tree up in two seconds.
22:32Come on, Chinook.
22:51Wake up.
22:52Yoo-hoo, Mom.
22:54Hey, Mom, wake up.
22:56What is it?
22:58Avalanche?
22:59A forest fire?
23:00What?
23:01Can we have a Christmas tree, Mom?
23:03A what?
23:05You know, a Christmas tree like Mr. Ranger has.
23:09Listen, children.
23:10I hate to be angry, but you should have been asleep weeks ago.
23:15But, Mom, just one teensy little Christmas tree.
23:20Please, Mom.
23:22I'm sorry.
23:23It's almost a month past your bedtime already.
23:27Oh.
23:30Oh.
23:31All right.
23:33But you must promise to remain in the cave for the rest of the winter.
23:38We promise, Mom.
23:40We do.
23:41We do.
23:42Yippee.
23:43We're going to have a tree.
23:44Hooray.
23:45We found a beauty just down the slope, Mom.
23:48I'm going.
23:49I'm going.
23:51Oh, the problems of motherhood.
23:54I've got a feeling it's going to be a long winter.
23:58Yippee.
24:00Well, let's get the old cave ready for our Christmas tree.
24:06I guess this is the tree the kids want.
24:10Isn't it a terrific Christmas tree, Mom?
24:18I'm glad you're happy with it, kids.
24:21Maybe now we can get some sleep, hmm?
24:25Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way.
24:29Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh.
24:33Yippee.
24:34Hooray for Christmas.
24:36We want Santa Claus.
24:38Now, now, listen, kids.
24:40I don't want to spoil the fun, but this noise simply cannot continue.
24:45Just what is all this Christmas stuff all about, anyway?
24:50Oh, it's terrific, Mom.
24:52Yeah, a sad, jolly old man in a sled is going to bring us some presents.
24:58Yeah, and his big old jelly shakes like a bowl full of jelly.
25:05And he comes down the chimney and says, ho, ho, ho.
25:10And how did you kids learn all about this?
25:13Mr. Ranger told us.
25:15Oh, he certainly can tell some whoppers.
25:19Oh, no, it's true, Mom.
25:21And no matter what, we're going to stay up until Christmas Eve.
25:26Oh, dear.
25:27And just when is this Christmas Eve?
25:32Well, uh, we don't know.
25:36We sort of forgot to ask.
25:38Great.
25:39It could be next July.
25:41We'll go ask Mr. Ranger, okay?
25:44Oh, no, you don't.
25:46You cubs wait here.
25:48I'll have a talk with that Mr. Ranger.
25:51I'll find out all about this Christmas business once and for all.
25:57Do you think Christmas might be in July?
26:02I don't even know when July is.
26:26Ah, yes, it is indeed the season to be jolly.
26:57Uh-oh.
26:59Good heavens.
27:01There's a bear at the door.
27:04It's old Nana.
27:07Wake up, Nana.
27:11Ha, ha, ha.
27:14Wake up.
27:16Wake up, Nana.
27:19Wake up, Nana.
27:23Ha, ha, ha.
27:25Wake up.
27:27You're, uh, blocking my door, dear.
27:30Oh, what are you doing here, anyhow?
27:33Oh, I just can't get any sleep with Nokomi and Chinook all excited over this thing called Christmas.
27:41They're determined to stay up until Christmas Eve, whenever that is.
27:46Oh, I see.
27:49But it seems you're the only one who knows when that is.
27:53Say, who is Santa Claus with a bowl full of jelly and reindeer and all?
28:00Well, it's all sort of an old legend.
28:05You mean it's not true?
28:08Have you been fibbing to my kids?
28:11Why, no, not exactly.
28:14I thought you bears would be hibernating.
28:18Now how can I hibernate with two cubs all excited over a Santa Claus who isn't even real?
28:25I don't mind losing a little sleep, but the kids will be so disappointed.
28:32Well, maybe they won't have to be.
28:36You know, I used to be an old department store Santa, and I still have my old outfit packed away.
28:43Why don't I just show up at your place on Christmas Eve, give a couple of ho-ho-hos, drop off a few goodies, and...
28:51And the cubs will escape Santa, and we can all bed down for the winter.
28:57Oh, I just hope it worked, or those cubs will be awfully sad and unhappy.
29:05See you tomorrow night, Mr. Rangers.
29:07Bye, Nana. I'll be there.
29:10You know, this might be fun.
29:14Ought to be a real nice old-fashioned Christmas.
29:41Oh, what a wonderful Christmas time, the happiest time of the year.
29:53When children are waiting, kids envy each day, they say Santa will ever appear.
30:05They're expecting a wonderful Christmas time, and it's ever so easy to see.
30:18As the first light of Christmas goes, all hearts will be jingling to his jolly old light.
30:31And the wonder of Christmas time.
30:45Oh, what a wonder of Christmas time.
30:51The hearty old Christmas jingle.
30:57And even if one does pretend he's no one, some would think that they play in the snow.
31:09There'll be times when you think of this Christmas time, when you can't even talk today.
31:22And I hope you'll remember to say in December that Santa is here and why.
31:35Ought to be a wonder, a wonder of Christmas time.
32:05Ah, Christmas Eve at last.
32:20Time for old Santa to make his rounds.
32:24Say, I don't look half bad.
32:27I don't suppose the real Saint Nick would mind me standing in to bring a little Christmas cheer to Yellowstone National Park.
32:42Ho, ho, ho.
32:45I guess I've got everything, including a couple of stockings full of goodies for Chinook and Nekomi.
32:52Those cubs are in for a real treat.
32:56Oh, why did tonight have to be the night?
33:24Why did tonight have to be the night for our worst blizzard in years?
33:54Mom, where do you suppose Santa will bring you?
34:11Oh, I sort of expect a good winter's rest.
34:16I sure wish Santa would hurry up.
34:20Yeah, I'm tired.
34:23Oh, I'm sure he'll be here soon, kids.
34:27Yeah, we don't want to fall asleep.
34:31Hey, Chinook, wake up, wake up.
34:35Do you want a missing Santa?
34:38Uh-uh.
34:39Remember, Santa is coming.
34:42I hope.
35:12It's no use.
35:39I gotta stop.
35:41Before I get snowed in.
35:43I gotta wait till this snowstorm passes.
36:14Gee, it's getting awful late.
36:17Is it stopped snowing, Mom?
36:21Not yet.
36:24Gosh, maybe Santa can't get through.
36:28Chinook, wake up.
36:50Oh, good.
36:52There's an old bus stop for summer visitors.
36:55At least it's got a roof.
36:58Oh, I'll wait out the storm in here.
37:07Where is Santa Claus?
37:09I can't stay awake much longer.
37:13I'm afraid I'll just have to tell them the sad truth.
37:18Even if it hurts.
37:20Come here, children.
37:24Do you think Santa's coming, Mom?
37:27Shouldn't he have been here?
37:30Well, dears, I'm afraid not.
37:33Perhaps it's best you know the truth.
37:36Santa is only Mr. Ranger dressed up in a red suit and wearing a false beard.
37:44You mean there's no real Santa Claus?
37:47No, no, not exactly.
37:50Well, it's sort of just a nice old story that the Ranger told.
37:55But rather than disappoint you,
37:57he decided to dress up like this Santa Claus and visit you tonight.
38:03But I guess he can't get through because of the bad storm outside.
38:08I guess Christmas is for people, not bears.
38:12I'm sorry, kids.
38:14Gee, no Santa?
38:19Besides, well, we're all together in our warm cave.
38:23That's sort of nice, isn't it?
38:25So let's all go to bed and we'll talk all about this in the spring.
38:32Good night, kids.
38:36Good night, little one, and don't be sad.
38:53Keep away the trouble that you have had.
39:01I just, little one, give time for dreams.
39:10Through the solid heavens and still the moon.
39:18Sleep, oh sleep, little one.
39:24Rest your weary mind.
39:30A better day is dawning.
39:37Tomorrow you will find.
39:44Good night, little one, and don't be sad.
39:53Keep away the trouble that you have had.
40:01I just, little one, give time for dreams.
40:10Through the solid heavens and still the moon.
40:19So silent and deep.
40:25Drift gently off into sleep.
40:31Dreams fresh and new are there waiting for you.
40:43Good night, little one.
40:48Good night, little one.
41:03Good night, Mom.
41:05Good night.
41:09Oh, I just wish there was a Santa Claus.
41:25Ho, ho, ho, ho!
41:30Ho, ho, ho, ho!
41:34Ho, ho, ho!
41:38Great, now he shows up.
41:49Oh, it's only Mr. Ranger dressed up like Santa Claus.
41:55And he's just trying to fool us.
41:59Ho, ho, ho, ho!
42:01Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
42:07He just wanted you to have a nice Christmas, kid.
42:11This is the worst Christmas I ever had.
42:14Even if it is the only one.
42:17Well, it's all over now, kid.
42:19Let's try to forget and get some sleep.
42:24Okay, Mom.
42:27Good night, Mom.
42:38Snoring.
42:50Oh, dear, it's almost morning.
42:53Phew, at last the storm quit.
42:56I'd better get up to those bears.
42:58I'm way overdue.
43:07Snoring.
43:20Oh, I just hope they're still waiting.
43:25Ahem, anyone home?
43:28Santa Claus is here.
43:31Ho, ho, ho!
43:32Merry Christmas!
43:34Merry Christmas, everyone!
43:36Ho, ho, ho!

43:44It's me, Santa Claus.
43:46Remember?
43:47Santa?
43:49But you were already here.
43:51I was.
43:53I mean, I wasn't.
43:54I just got here, and I brought these stockings full of...
43:58Huh?
44:00Where did those other stockings come from?
44:03Didn't you bring them, Mr. Ranger?
44:07Well, no.
44:08I mean, I'm not a ranger.
44:10Oh, you know.
44:14But how?
44:16Because a real Santa Claus was already here.
44:20Yippee!
44:21Hooray!
44:22There is a real Santa Claus.
44:26Well, I suppose there must be.
44:32Oh, boy!
44:34And he brought us our Christmas stockings!
44:38Ho, ho, ho!
44:40Up, Donner!
44:41Up, Blitzen!
44:43Uh, what's that?
44:46Could it be...
44:48It's him!
44:49Santa Claus!
44:52Look!
44:53Up in the sky!
44:54That's why it is!
44:55It is!

45:21Good night, kids.
45:24Good night, Nana.
