00:00This is a methaphone. It is exactly what it looks like. A clear piece of acrylic shaped like an
00:15iPhone. But why does it exist? My friend is actually the inventor and creator of these and
00:19he told me that what he wanted to test was if we're all so addicted to our phones then could
00:25you potentially curb somebody's addiction by replacing the feeling of having a phone in your
00:30pocket with something that feels exactly the same? Now I commentate on technology's impact on society
00:36right so obviously I have something to say here. I think the reason 13 million people and counting
00:43are intrigued about that video of me in the boba shop and why this is so completely sold out right
00:49now is because this little piece of acrylic feels like a physical artifact that directly responds to
00:55this collective tension we all feel about how our devices which are meant to make us more connected
01:01are actually having the exact opposite effect. This is not news. I don't need to report this. But even
01:06as we're all astutely aware of that like what are we supposed to do? We're all just individuals up
01:13against what the entirety of big tech? And I think that's why this little piece of acrylic feels so
01:20empowering. I mean honestly look have I used my phone less in the past week that I've been carrying
01:26this around with me? Probably not. But just the idea that I could have something in my life something I
01:31can touch and hold and the conversation that this little guy is sparking online that's what really
01:37matters. But what do you think really? I mean do you think that a single piece of acrylic could
01:42actually start to help us get back in touch with our humanity? Or is this just a weird party trick?
01:48Oh and if you know why this is called a methophone, drop that knowledge in the comments. Drop that
01:53button.
01:59And if you want to get back in touch with me, I'll see you next time.
