00:00Hi, John.
00:12Okay, do you want to put your hand up if you want a question?
00:16And you need the mic, thank you.
00:19Hi, congratulations.
00:21I wonder what your thoughts were when the board went up for 10 minutes,
00:24added time at the end, how you felt, how agonizing was that?
00:28I spoke to the fourth official and said,
00:30I think eight would have been enough.
00:33And he said, I think you're lucky with 10.
00:36I said, okay, I agree.
00:38Anyway, a few situations, I think we are, and a few injuries.
00:45So I expected quite a few minutes.
00:47But of course, when you're 1-0 up and so much pressure from City,
00:51the whole game, to be honest, then the 10 minutes felt really long.
00:56But I think today it was already, it was the Crystal Palace day.
01:00It was the day for our fans, and it just had to happen that we win.
01:04And that's, yeah, in the end, I think there was no clear chance in the extra time.
01:10And credit to the players, how hard they work today to get this clean sheet,
01:17great goalkeeper, great mentality, and, yeah, fantastic win.
01:28Hi Oliver, congratulations.
01:29The club have actually posted a clip of you talking about how,
01:33if Pep plays at the same system again, you would solve it.
01:37Did he do anything that surprised you in that sense?
01:40Like, I suppose, what do you think the winning of the game for your team was?
01:44Yeah, first of all, I think City played so well.
01:48It was so hard, you know, we never could get pressure on the ball.
01:53It's doing so well how they move, creating the situations to drive the ball.
01:58They just want you to jump and then finding the pocket and going in behind us.
02:01How they created their penalty, and this is, we wanted to be more patient.
02:06This was our learning, when we are too impatient, and they find the space.
02:10Even there is no space, but they find it.
02:12I was surprised that he played with two strikers and two wingers,
02:17so very many attacking players, but it was so hard to defend.
02:22You could see Doku Savino, so great in one-v-one.
02:24We always double up, so hard work here.
02:26If you don't double up there,
02:31then they find the pocket, and we just won two touches,
02:33and they did it a few times, and then we had the goalkeeper.
02:36We had three, four sliding tackles when we blocked the ball,
02:40and it was such an effort of the team,
02:42and now we have the reward lifting the trophy,
02:45and also scoring, being very efficient and scoring an amazing goal.
02:49I think it felt like it was the first time we were in the half.
02:52It was a nice goal, but, yeah.
02:55So, talking about too many football-specific issues today,
03:00and I think it's 90% how well City played,
03:04and I think 90% how well we defended with the passion we had,
03:09and, yeah, unbelievable game.
03:16Kurz auf Deutsch.
03:17Heute müssen wir auf Deutsch, Oliver.
03:19Europa League Finale, FA Cup Finale,
03:33As a chairman, I will answer in English,
03:36so that everybody understands.
03:38It's a question compared about Europa League and FA Cup wins.
03:45I think, first of all, it's a special stadium,
03:48the Wembley Stadium.
03:49I was here twice, three times before,
03:52but twice when I watched England playing.
03:55It's also a great atmosphere,
03:56but it's something special when it's split
03:58in 50% Crystal Palace fans and 50% Man City fans.
04:03I think everybody could feel this special atmosphere
04:05in a very traditional stadium.
04:08Everything that happens before the game makes it special
04:12when the Prince comes and the national anthem.
04:15And the game was tough.
04:19The game was so tough and we were talking about it,
04:22how we can find better solutions at halftime.
04:27But it's difficult to compare.
04:33On the other side,
04:35I think nobody expected Frankfurt winning the Europa League
04:38and nobody expected Crystal Palace winning the FA Cup.
04:42But I think you can see now what you can get
04:45when you are patient as a club
04:48and also big credit to our supporters
04:51because we're a very bad start.
04:54There are three points after eight games
04:56and usually the fans get impatient
04:59and in the morning are complaining
05:01and our fans always supported us.
05:04They could see the effort
05:06and even we had three or four weeks ago
05:09we conceded ten goals within four days
05:12at City 5 at Newcastle 5
05:14and we were 5-0 down after 60 minutes at Newcastle.
05:17Our fans were supporting the team.
05:19And I think this is the special connection
05:22and then you call it maybe we are lucky in a few times.
05:26I think yes, but I think then it's more
05:28then you deserve it.
05:29When you always stick together,
05:31when you always support each other
05:32and especially in difficult moments
05:34you need support.
05:35Then you don't need somebody who kicks you,
05:36then you need somebody to hug you.
05:38And this is what the fans gave to us
05:39and that's why I think it's a special win
05:41for this club.
05:42It's a special win for our fans
05:45and it's a great win for all of us.
05:48Okay.
05:49What was it like holding the trophy?
05:51Did it feel different?
05:52Holding the trophy.
05:54And what did Prince William told you?
05:56You know, he's an Aston Villa fan.
05:59No, no, he congratulated all of us
06:04for our performances.
06:06You know, for me it's the strange thing.
06:12Now I feel like empty, you know.
06:16I think I will start to realize it
06:20maybe tomorrow or on Monday
06:23but the craziest thing is on Monday
06:25I have to think about the Wolves game on Tuesday.
06:28So I don't know when it will come
06:31but it's something special.
06:34But it is and I told the players now after the game
06:37I don't know, I'm not the guy
06:41maybe with the biggest talents
06:42but I have a feeling, I get a feeling
06:44for a group of players
06:46and I got this feeling during the season
06:48that we can achieve incredible things.
06:52And this feeling is the same.
06:55There's no button where you can turn it on.
06:57It just comes and it's...
06:59I know we have talented players
07:01and especially we have great characters
07:03in the club with such a togetherness,
07:06such a great work ethic,
07:08such a great environment, atmosphere
07:12and this I think is fundamental
07:14for achieving maybe impossible things.
07:19And this is what the feeling
07:21that started in winter.
07:24and also maybe with the experience
07:27with this difficult start
07:29because we always stayed together
07:30and the players never complained
07:32and we are really demanding a lot
07:34from them.
07:35And then it started
07:37and then we were in Marbella
07:38because we had three weeks no game
07:40on a short trip
07:41and there I told the players
07:43this is my feeling.
07:45And now it happened.
07:47So it's just crazy sometimes.
07:50But yeah, unbelievable.
07:52Sam, please. Thanks.
07:54Hello, Oliver.
07:55Do you think that the gap is closing
07:57a little bit between the top of English football
07:59and the teams like Palace
08:01who tend to be in the middle of the table?
08:03You've seen Newcastle come up,
08:05Villa come up
08:06and it seems to me, as you've proved today,
08:09that you can find a way
08:10to beat the sort of elite sides.
08:13You have to know it better than me
08:15because I'm here for 15 or 16 months
08:18and it looks like, I think Pep mentioned it
08:21and if somebody knows it, Pep is working here
08:23for eight years, nine years,
08:24he said that the meat table in England
08:27is getting better and better
08:29and the gap is getting smaller
08:31and if Pep says this, I think it's true.
08:35There's a gentleman right at the back
08:37in the blue jumper.
08:49Congrats, Oliver.
08:50Massive achievement.
08:51Could you please sum up your emotions
08:53when you received your medal
08:54and you hacked Steve Parrish?
08:56You look quite touched
08:57and you obviously know what it means
08:58for Crystal Palace not winning a trophy
09:00for 120 years
09:01and now you're the first one to do it.
09:03And secondly, when you saw Manchester City's line-up
09:06without a proper holding midfielder
09:08and the team,
09:09did it remind you
09:10of the Champions League final 2021?
09:12Same result, by the way.
09:14Yeah.
09:15Let's answer the second question.
09:16When we got the line-up,
09:17we were just looking at
09:20when they played against Brighton
09:22and against Tottenham
09:24with the four attacking players,
09:26because this is what we didn't expect.
09:29But at the end, nothing really changed
09:34what we have to do.
09:35But again, you have to do it on your top, top level.
09:39Especially defending with it on our top, top level.
09:41And my emotions in this is, I don't know, it's strange, but I think in these moments,
09:53I don't think about football in a specific way.
09:58For me, and I told this to players,
10:01I don't know if I tell you too many insights,
10:03but before the game,
10:05I think the biggest achievement we,
10:08as football players, football managers,
10:11the biggest achievement that we can have,
10:13the biggest success is not then lifting the trophy,
10:16the biggest success that we can have,
10:18and this is how I feel it is,
10:20we could give 10,000 of our fans,
10:24of South Londoner,
10:26we could give them a moment for their life.
10:30We can give them great times,
10:33we can give them,
10:34maybe they have some trouble, some problems at home.
10:37We give them hours and days where they forget all of this.
10:40Just be feeling happy and celebrating.
10:43I think this is the biggest achievement that sportsmen can do.
10:47And we did it for our fans,
10:49we did it for many, many people,
10:53and that's why I think everybody who contributed to this success
11:00deserves to be proud of him,
11:02and deserves to be proud of the group,
11:04and deserves to be proud of the whole club,
11:07because again, it's the best thing you can do.
11:09Congratulations, Oliver.
11:12You've secured your spot in Europe for next season,
11:15that's another competition,
11:17you're going to need to recruit.
11:19The club has already got a reputation
11:21for bringing young prospects in.
11:23How much easier does winning this
11:25and having European football make that sales pitch for you
11:28to help entice players to the club?
11:30I don't know.
11:32I think it will be more attractive, of course.
11:35I think Crystal Palace Premier League is very attractive
11:38and we have great players.
11:40So let's see what the transfer window will bring.
11:43It will be a very busy time,
11:44but I don't want to think about it today.
11:46Today, I hope I start to find my party motors slowly
11:53and get the right vibe.
11:55I'm really looking forward when I can see my family,
11:58because many family members were here today
12:02and want to share the good moments in your life
12:06you want to share with the most important ones,
12:08and that's the family.
12:09And then I hope I don't make crazy things tonight.
12:13OK, we're going to take two more.
12:15One from Dom and one here.
12:17Oliver, you've spoken about how important it is
12:19to have the connection with the fans,
12:21but the volume of the Palace fans when the final whistle sounded,
12:24it probably speaks to the fact that the club
12:27haven't won a major trophy in their history.
12:29So I know that that might not be something you've lived with.
12:32You've only been at Palace for 15 months
12:33and the same is true of some of your players,
12:35many of your players.
12:36But does it make it more special, that,
12:38knowing that you've given the club that moment,
12:40even though you're only part of a small part of its history?
12:42Oh yes, I talked about it before,
12:48I think when I mentioned we had two years ago,
12:51we met after 25 years when we won the cup in Austria
12:54when I was a player.
12:55You know, this connection stays forever,
12:57the connection with these players,
12:58with the players, with Crystal Palace,
13:00will stay forever.
13:01And I'm pretty sure if, I don't know,
13:03Jean-Philippe Matheta will watch a game in 30 years at Selhurst,
13:08the fans will celebrate him and he deserves it.
13:12And this will be the same with all the other players.
13:14And so, yeah, it's massive what everyone did for the club.
13:20And this is this special motivation.
13:23We wanted to write history.
13:24I think now we wrote really a big chapter in history.
13:27And next year we will start to write a new chapter.
13:31It was the first time playing in Europe.
13:33And let's see.
13:35Because this year two English teams play the final,
13:38as when I'm right informed.
13:42Last one here. Thank you.
13:43Congratulations, Oliver.
13:44Could you just walk us through your emotions
13:46when Dean Henderson went outside the box
13:49and put his hand to the ball?
13:52Yes, I thought, why you don't kick the ball?
13:55Yeah, these were my thoughts.
14:03And then I had my fingers crossed that the VR doesn't intervene.
14:08Everything worked.
14:10Good decision?
14:11Good decision?
14:12For us, definitely.
14:14Thanks, everybody.
14:17We'll leave it there. Cheers.
