Mumbai Cricket Association unveils India's World Cup-winning capt Rohit Sharma’s stand at Wankhede

Mumbai, May 17, 2025(ANI): Rohit Sharma stands unveiled at Wankhede stadium. Indian ODI men's cricket team captain Rohit Sharma and his family, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, NCP-SCP chief Sharad Pawar, and others, are also present. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is formally inaugurating four new spaces at the Wankhede—the Sharad Pawar Stand, the Rohit Sharma Stand, the Ajit Wadekar Stand, and the MCA Office Lounge—in memory of former MCA President Amol Kale.

00:00What is going to happen today, I have never dreamt of. As a kid growing up wanting to play

00:13cricket for Mumbai, wanting to play cricket for India. Something like this, it is really,

00:19really special. Only because Wankhade is such an iconic stadium and so many memories have

00:27been created here. To have this big honor in front of so many people, especially my family,

00:34my mom and dad. Good afternoon everyone. Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who has come

00:43here to make this event so so special for all of us. What is going to happen today, I have

00:53never dreamt of. As a kid growing up wanting to play cricket for Mumbai, wanting to play

00:59cricket for India. No one thinks of these kind of things. For me, it is like any other sportsman

01:10who wanted to try and give the best and use the best of his talent and ability and to serve

01:16the nation, serve the country as much as possible. While doing that, obviously, you try and achieve

01:26a lot of things. You achieve a lot of things. A lot of milestones are created. But something

01:32like this, it is really, really special. Only because Wankhade is such an iconic stadium and

01:41so many memories have been created here. For me to have my name amongst the greats of the game and

01:55world's best political leader, I cannot express what the feeling is. For that, I am really, really

02:07grateful and honoured and very, very thankful as well to all the MCA members, Ajinka Nayak, Sanjay Nayak,

02:19Arman Bhai and of course, not to forget the Apex Council members. For me to honour while I am playing,

02:29it makes it very, very special because I am still playing. I have retired from two formats, but I am still

02:33playing one format. So, it will be a surreal feeling on 21st when I come here and play against Delhi Capitals,

02:42representing Mumbai Indians. And to have a stand, it will be a very, very special feeling. And it will even

02:48get special while representing the country. Whenever that happens, India plays, whichever team here, that is going to

02:59make it even more special. And to have this big honour in front of so many people, especially my family, my

03:10mom and dad, my brother, his wife and my wife who is present here as well. Very, very special people in my life. And I am so, so grateful and

03:26thankful to whatever they have sacrificed for me, for me to stand here and talk about, you know, this special day. And of course, not to

03:37forget, you know, my very, very special team Mumbai Indians is also here, who I am pretty sure are waiting for my

03:49speech to get over so that they can start training. But thank you guys for coming there and supporting. I would like to

03:56thank the media and all the members and special thanks to Shri Sharath Bawar Sahib and Fatnavish Sir to be here and

04:05make it very, very special. This is a very, very special day in my life, which I will never forget. So, thank you again.
