00:00When astronomers first turned on the James Webb Space Telescope and pointed it out into the block
00:08of space, one of the first images they got was this one. It shows galaxies that are billions
00:13of years old, those that were more or less formed at the dawn of the universe itself.
00:18Now experts say this one, which they estimate is around 13 billion years old, is a bit of an
00:24enigma, as it shouldn't exist at all. It's called ZF-UDS-7329, and astronomers say the galaxy
00:32is too complex to have been created in the early days after the Big Bang. The issue is
00:36it's around the size of the Milky Way, but it also has around four times the number of
00:40stars by mass. The issue arises because our current dark matter model suggests that it
00:45was not in a state to support galaxies of this size at that time, as it was too smooth.
00:49Those same models outlined that as time went on, dark matter ripples grew because of gravity.
00:53collecting in larger clusters and dragging other elements, namely hydrogen, together
00:58with it, thus allowing it to create larger, more complex galaxies.
01:02Another peculiarity about the galaxy is that it doesn't seem to have changed much after
01:06its creation. The study's authors say this challenges the standard model of cosmology,
01:11adding quote, the key question now is how they form so fast very early in the universe, and
01:15what mysterious mechanisms lead to stopping them from forming stars abruptly, when the rest
01:20of the universe is doing so.
01:23Do not accept it as to chop the elegance of the galaxy's.
01:26Do not accept it as a temperate as a white-catch.
01:28There are a few things that can't make it better than that.
01:29And that is the fact that you can create and you can imagine a mixture of the sea.
01:30There are very many things that can become a legend of astrology.
01:30There are some things that can happen.
01:32There are many points that could be used to be used by the dark, but there are some things that
01:35have to be used in the dark as well.
01:36There are many points that can be used to be used in it to form a connection to the
01:44surface of the galaxy.
