The 78th Cannes Film Festival begins with 22 films vying for top prize

22 films will vie for Cannes’ top prize, the Palme d’Or. Those films include Wes Anderson’s “The Phoenician Scheme,” Richard Linklater’s “Nouvelle Vague,” Lynne Ramsay’s “Die, My Love,” Joachim Trier’s “Sentimental Value,” Kelly Reichardt’s “The Mastermind,” Oliver Hermanus’ .

00:00The 78th Cannes Film Festival got underway Tuesday, kicking off two weeks of French Riviera frenzy.
00:10The festival has over the years drawn studios, producers and sales agents all on the hand for acquisitions.
00:19A total of 22 films will vie for the top prize, The Palm Door,
00:23and they included Wes Anderson's The Phoenician Scheme, Richard Linkler's Nouvelle Vague, Lynn Ramsey's Die, among others.
00:35Among African films, getting the mega-recognition for the first time include a Nigerian movie by the name My Father's Shadow,
00:44directed by Akinola Davis Jr., based in the United Kingdom.
00:48In the emerging film section, Ethiopia's short film A Doll Made Up of Clay by Kokob Ghebreweria Tesfai
00:57will be featured showcasing new entries into the industry.
01:03Egyptian director Murad Mustafa will also present his debut feature film Aisha Can't Fly Away in the Uncertain Regard section.
01:14The festival began with the screening of a three-film tribute to Ukraine
01:20and the opening night film Amélie Bonin's French Romance Live One Day.
