During a press briefing on Monday, President Trump was asked if he was open to negotiations on his tariffs on steel, aluminum, and cars.
Transcript
00:00Mr. President, are you open to negotiating your tariffs on cars, steel and aluminum with China or any other country?
00:07Well, we're not even talking about that.
00:10We're bringing the car business back into this country.
00:13We have commitments, not only commitments, they've already started construction on many plants.
00:18They've left Mexico in a few cases.
00:21In a few cases, they've left Canada.
00:23They're not going to build in Canada.
00:24They're going to build here because we have the market and the tariffs have been amazing.
00:29The election and the tariffs.
00:30November 5th was a big day.
00:32And on top of that, of course, you wouldn't have the tariffs without the election, I guess, if you look at it.
00:37But we have at least 11 committed massive car factories that are going to be built, that are in the process of being built.
00:49And some have actually started.
00:52We also have renovations of existing factories where they weren't utilizing the full factory from years gone by.
00:59And now they're under full renovation.
01:01They'll be opening up full factories in a very short period of time.
01:04Our car industries, I think we're going to have the number one industry.
01:07You know, if you look at Japan and these others, they do tremendously with cars.
01:12And they can do that, too.
01:14But, you know, if they want to sell cars in the United States, they're going to have to build factories in the United States because I'm interested in cars for the United States.
01:22Now, one other thing is, in our tax bill, we're giving not only no tax on tips, no tax on Social Security, no tax on overtime,
01:31but also we're going to get a deduction for people that borrow money to buy a car if it's made in America.
01:39If it's not, we have no interest.
