Suppose only one big ocean left on the Earth, with no land and no continents, and it is all water all around.
There were the videos that were popular on the Internet where it was said that because of global warming or the glaciers melting the world could get flooded. However, could this dreadful situation really happen?
Browse through this Mind Astray long-read to find out the reality of waterworld disaster myths, that have disproven the scientific grounds, and to learn what the consequences would be in case the Earth was flooded.
🌍 Sea level science explained 🌊 Where “Waterworld Earth” theories go wrong 🔥 Real climate change risks that aren’t science fiction

00:00Sound the alarms!
00:04Sea level rise is the problem I am here to address today on Mind Astray.
00:09If you are unaware, you are not shrouded by accusations of
00:12coastal cities will be completely underwater by next year,
00:17or we'll all be living in floating cities by next decade.
00:21As repulsive as this sounds, it is not entirely false.
00:25While rising sea levels is a problem that humanity is currently facing,
00:29the implications and timelines are completely imaginary.
00:33We will get to the proposed misinformation down the line,
00:36but first let's establish cold, hard truths.
00:39The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, IPCC,
00:42claims the average sea level will rise around 1.4,
00:462.8 feet globally by the year 2100.
00:49You heard that right?
00:51The parallels are the average water levels are rising due to climate change
00:55and is a matter of concern.
00:56Mark my words, one meter of water rise will wreak havoc across every coastal city
01:01and saltwater intrusion.
01:03Incremental inflow of saltwater into freshwater systems.
01:07Floods would only mark the onset of a tortoisesque series of devastation.
01:12Still, that is the reality.
01:13My point of contention here is that the process will be a gradual one over decades and centuries,
01:20unlike the imagined roads of the apocalypse that were time would be the crux.
01:25You could also come across something like,
01:27in a few years, no more dry land will be visible.
01:31This is nothing more than a what-if scenario, though.
01:34Even if we imagine the what-if video being correct in its assumptions,
01:39the sea would go up approximately 70 meters, 230 feet, if all the ice will melt.
01:45It is true that this would be enough to cover a lot of coastal cities,
01:49but it would still be less than the area currently taken up by the countries with the highest peaks.
01:54The video's sole purpose was to present a theoretical extreme case of what might happen in the future
02:01so that the audience would be engaged with the message, not to make a near-term prognosis.
02:07The real threat starts from the long-term and the rising number and strength of the so-called
02:11coastal flooding events.
02:13We have to make the switch from inaccurate information to practical information.
02:17The example solutions that are at our disposal and that have still not been put into practice
02:22are reducing greenhouse gas emissions and finding ways to adapt to new conditions.
02:28In this way, the very next time you happen to see an outrageous headline or video
02:32speaking about the immediate total drowning of the world,
02:35stop and find the science-based facts.
02:38The facts about the rising of the water level being not so sudden but very dangerous
02:42are the ones to be understood in order to be addressed efficiently.
02:46Well, anyway.
02:47If you enjoyed finding this piece of truth, do take a moment to give that like button a gentle push.
02:53Be a part of a community that deals with all the difficult but important topics honestly
02:58and subscribe to our channel to be informed as soon as new content comes in.
03:03If you notice videos that are overstating the short-term consequences of sea-level rise,
03:07you can provide a voice of reason in a comment and guide the viewers to your video in an unobtrusive way
03:13so they can learn more about the issue.
03:16For example, you may want to say,
03:18Interesting video.
03:19I want to point out that while the problem of sea-level rise is serious,
03:24the current predictions suggest that its most critical impacts will come further in the future.
03:29Check out my latest video on Mind Astray for a clear understanding of the real science
03:35and also to get an understanding of the timelines in the years to come if you are interested.
03:40Rather than using one of the heavy-handed methods,
03:43you are correcting gently and directing viewers to your channel for trusted info.
