00:06Fueled by high josh, thousands of youngsters turned up for Chandigarh's civil defense volunteer program on 10th May 2025.
00:17Though the reporting time was 10.30 am, the crowd began arriving as early as 8 am.
00:22The turnout was so massive that authorities had to redirect many participants to Tiranga ground in sector 17 for training.
00:31On May 9, UT Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav had urged youth to join as civil defense volunteers offering a week of intensive training.
00:39Volunteers will be deployed across sectors and villages during conflict with no age limit or set volunteer target.
00:45Civil defense volunteers play a crucial role during emergencies, though they are not armed.
00:59They are trained to support the administration and armed forces in non-combatant tasks, such as guiding residents during alerts, managing blackouts and providing basic medical aid.
