00:00The U.S. and U.K. have signed a trade deal, the first to be secured since the Trump administration

00:08announced sweeping global tariffs on foreign goods.

00:12The deal eases trade barriers on a few specific sectors, meaning it is not a wide-ranging trade pact.

00:20With this deal the U.K. joins the United States in affirming that reciprocity and fairness

00:26is an essential and vital principle of international trade.

00:31The deal includes billions of dollars of increased market access for American exports,

00:37especially in agriculture, dramatically increasing access for American beef, ethanol,

00:43and virtually all of the products produced by our great farmers.

00:49U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized the strong bond between the two countries,

00:54saying it was fitting that the deal was sealed on VE Day.

00:57As you say, Donald, the timing couldn't be more apt because not only was it 80 years ago today

01:07that victory came for Europe after and at the end of the Second World War,

01:14but of course on that day the U.K. and the U.S. stood together as the closest of allies.

01:20In return for increased market access to American products,

01:24the U.S. will remove its 25% tariff on steel and aluminium,

01:28which Trump imposed on all foreign imports of these metals.

01:32Although Trump is referring to the breakthrough as a full and comprehensive deal,

01:36experts stress that this exaggerates the scope of the agreement.

01:40Trump also conceded that there is still work to do,

01:43and that the deal will be concluded in the coming weeks.
