00:00Today I'm reading Alice in Wonderland.
00:04Down the rabbit hole.
00:06Alice was getting tired of sitting with her sister.
00:09She had tried her reading her sister's book,
00:12but as it didn't have any pictures or people talking,
00:17it was very dual indeed.
00:20She was just wondering whether to pick some daisies
00:25for a daisy chain when my white rabbit ran past.
00:28Now I think a rabbit isn't so very remarkable.
00:34Alice wasn't even surprised when the rabbit cried,
00:38Oh dear, oh dear, I shall be too late.
00:42But the rabbit took a watch out of its pocket.
00:45She jumped up, for whoever saw a rabbit with a pocket or a watch,
00:49She chased after it and was just in time to see the rabbit pop down a large hole.
01:02In a flash, Alice followed.
01:04After a storm, a hole went on like a tunnel.
01:07Suddenly it dipped, and Alice found herself falling down a deep well.
01:16The well was lined with shelves full of interesting things in it.
01:23And the ether rail was very deep, or Alice fell slowly,
01:27for she had plenty of time to look around.
01:30I must be near the middle of the earth, she thought after a while.
01:38What if I fall right through?
01:40I might end up in New Zealand.
01:45Down, down, down.
01:48Alice began to fall.
01:50Alice began to think to fall, with a never-end.
01:55She was daydreaming about her cat, Dina Wim.
01:58Dump!
01:59She landed on a heap of dry leaves.
02:04Mom, there's not in the least hurt.
02:07Alice stood up and looked around.
02:09A long passage stretched ahead of her,
02:12and the white rabbit was hurrying down it.
02:16Alice went after him like the wind.
02:17Oh my, you're in the whiskers, how late it's getting.
02:22Oh, oh I mean.
02:24She had almost caught up one minute when we turned our corner.
02:29Alice was in a long hall, with doors down both sides.
02:34Excitedly, she tried each one, but every single door was locked.
02:38Just as she thought she might never get out,
02:41she saw a glass table with a golden key on top.
02:44Alice walked down the hall once more,
02:47but the key was too small for the doors.
02:50Then she spotted a tiny door half hidden by a curtain.
02:54Holding her bed, she tried the golden key in the lock.
02:59Oh, I think so.
03:00Beyond the door was the most beautiful garden Alice had ever seen.
03:06And with bright flowers and cool, sparkling fountains,
03:10Alice tried to squeeze through, but the door fit.
03:14She thought, if only I could shrink.
03:17I'll go back to the table, she decided.
03:19Perhaps I have another key to a bigger door.
03:23But instead of a key, she found a bottle with a label saying,
03:27Drink me.
03:28That wasn't here before, Dot.
03:30Checking it carefully, since it wasn't marked poison,
03:33she took a sip.
03:34It tasted so delicious.
03:36A mix of cherry tart, custard, toffee, pineapple, and hot butter toast.
03:42That she had very soon finished it.
03:47What a curious feeling, Alice said.
03:49Next, I think I'm shrinking.
03:53And that was, and she was.
03:55Soon she was small enough to go into the garden.
03:57And I hope I don't shrink away to nothing, to her huge disappointment.
04:05The garden door had closed, and she'd left the golden key on the table.
04:10She could see it glaring through the glass, a long way out of reach.
04:15Alice tried to climb a table that was too slippery.
04:19After three tries, she fell to the floor and began to cry.
04:22That won't help, she told herself sharply.
04:26As she wiped her eyes, she noticed a glass box under the table.
04:33The box held a cake.
04:35I'll eat it, Dot Alice.
04:36If I grow larger, I can reach the key.
04:39If I grow smaller, I can sleep under the door.
04:43Either way, I'll get into the garden.
04:45Chapter 2, The Pool of Tears.
04:47The Pool of Tears.
