The jaguar is a large feline species native to the Americas, most commonly found in the rainforests of Central and South America, especially the Amazon. It is the third-largest big cat in the world after the tiger and the lion, and the largest in the Americas. Jaguars resemble leopards but are more robust and have distinctive rosette-shaped spots. They possess extremely powerful jaws, capable of killing their prey with a bite through the skull. Jaguars are excellent swimmers and often hunt near water, preying on animals such as crocodiles, fish, and deer. Due to habitat loss and illegal hunting, they are considered a threatened species. Jaguars hold significant ecological roles and are also powerful symbols in many indigenous cultures.
