05:00seize all the stolen cars catch all the drug drivers and just look good doing it
05:08there's a knack in this job of being in the right place at the right time there is over the last
05:18couple of weeks i've found myself in the right place at the right time quite a lot it's akin to
05:25essentially walking into sainsbury's or asda when they're putting the whoopsie stickers on stuff
05:31isn't it i would say that's right place right time
05:39what the hell well he's not hanging about like is he
05:44he's going to cause an accident yeah
05:52i can't go to 10 to 30 i can't credit nothing i've got a vehicle making off lovely hill road
05:56heading towards the general direction of the team valley
05:59it's uh it looks like a sirocco or an a3 t-pack train super vehicle requesting authority for the
06:06pursuit it's just trying to minimize the risk it's quite important that we try and get this to a
06:12safe conclusion excuse me if you're right
06:31dangerous drivers love to gamble
06:34putting everything on red trying to beat a flush
06:45and going all in on the blinds

08:49before his dangerous driving bursts a tire
08:56vehicle has got a near side puncture to the sparks
09:01curved in

12:34i'm absolutely fuming
12:37look how raging he is
12:38good drive that really good drive
13:06oh i'm gutted
13:07that was going so well
13:10but
13:12as you can see
13:13completely gone
13:16sometimes with the speeds that we're following these vehicles
13:19it's a fine line where whoever's doing the stinging
13:23then that reactionary time of pulling the stinger away so that we don't get stung as well
13:28unfortunately
13:30i've caught the stinger with the the front offside tyre and
13:34take myself out of the game so i guess i've got nobody else to blame but myself
13:40yeah disappointed but we'll go uh look at it again
13:44it's personal now
13:49it's
13:59it's
14:02It's a bit of fuel for the day.
14:18Definitely more of a night-time person than a morning person.
14:22My wife will tell you,
14:23I've got to have something at the kickstart of the morning.
14:26At Follingsby Police Station in Washington,
14:29PC Tommy Wade has his hands on an arresting mugshot.
14:33It's got the Colin and Bowen.
14:35And then they've kindly said I look like Joe McEldrey, apparently.
14:39I'm not entirely sure I see the resemblance,
14:41but it could be a lot worse, so we'll do it.
14:49Champion.
14:5138-year-old Tommy is a 17-year veteran of the force.
14:55That's the office equipped.
14:57Let's get out there.
14:59See what the deer brings.
15:00And he's got the X factor when it comes to catching criminals.
15:11I did criminology at a university
15:13because there's just always been this sort of, like,
15:16desire to join the police.
15:18And I just thought, well, no-one gets in first time.
15:22So I'll give it a shot.
15:24And I don't know,
15:26there must have been desperate for people
15:27because I've managed to get through first time.
15:40We've just had a hit on the ANPR
15:41to show a white VW Golf.
15:45It's heading into the Sunderland area,
15:47and there's intelligence on it
15:48to suggest that there's multiple people using the vehicle,
15:51none of which are the keeper
15:52and none of which are insured.
15:54The vehicle was recently sighted,
15:56but it's managed to evade being stopped.
15:59And then once it was located,
16:01it was already parked up with whoever was driving
16:03and walked off.
16:04Again, it just adds to the suspicious element.
16:08It could be anything from committing theft,
16:11drug dealing.
16:13There's never normally any good reason
16:14for a load of people using the car.
16:16It obviously carries a risk
16:17that if they're not using it legally,
16:19that they may fail to stop.
16:20So we'll just have to see how it reacts
16:22when it gets near.
16:23Just have a little moresie down
16:35and see what's happening.
16:37You just never know.
16:40Right.
16:41Might be coming down behind.
16:47So we're just looking for a white Gulf.
16:53And there it is.
17:04Nine similator.
17:05I'm two vehicles behind that Gulf
17:09on Chester Road.
17:14It's just turned off before the driver.
17:16Yeah, I think I've got it stopped.
17:23Two seconds.
17:32Hello, mate.
17:33You OK?
17:34Is this your car?
17:36My car's car.
17:37Right.
17:37You've got a license and insurance to drive it.
17:40Right.
17:40We do as a fair, mate.
17:41We just pop out the car for us, please.
17:43Are you ready to just take a seat
17:44in the back of my car for us, please?
17:47If you just take a seat here for us.
17:54So you know what?
17:55Your friend knows you've got it.
17:56It's not like you've taken the car
17:57without them knowing it.
17:58They don't know, yeah.
17:59They don't know.
17:59OK.
18:01I'm banned.
18:03You're banned.
18:03Right.
18:05When were you banned?
18:07Two years ago.
18:08Two years ago.
18:09So when's your ban up then
18:10if it was two years ago?
18:11I don't know.
18:11About over a year left.
18:14Quite a lengthy ban.
18:14What was that for, mate?
18:15The one thing I'll obviously say is
18:19if you've been banned
18:20and it didn't drive.
18:22Yeah, I know.
18:23It was stupid.
18:24It was stupid.
18:24I don't know.
18:25All that'll happen is
18:25you've banned another car extended.
18:27I don't know.
18:27I'm regretting it now, like.
18:31You've been no bother with me
18:32and so that's why
18:34I'm being honest with you, all right?
18:36I do need to know
18:38who owns a car
18:39otherwise I'm going to get back.
18:39I'll tell you that in person
18:41but I'm not going to say nothing now.
18:42I have the right to remain silent
18:43and I'm going to practice my right.
18:46Right.
18:47Who owns a car?
18:48No comment.
18:52Oh, no, mate.
18:55Right.
18:55Take me to the station, mate.
18:56I'm not going to say anything.
18:57I have the right to remain silent.
18:58then I'm going to remain silent.
19:02It's my choice.
19:04You've told me that you're banned
19:05which is fair enough.
19:06If you don't tell us
19:07who owns a car
19:08then all that'll happen
19:09is the car will go
19:10and they'll never get back.
19:14You've been stopped
19:15driving with disqualified.
19:16Yeah.
19:17So it's my intention
19:18to deal with you
19:18for the fences
19:19that we've made out
19:20and then
19:21I'll be sending you on your way.
19:24But, and you know
19:25who's caught it.
19:27So I'm not getting
19:28locked up or not?
19:29No, no.
19:30You're not getting locked up.
19:32So do us a favour
19:33this is the information
19:35I need
19:35so that it can be released
19:36okay?
19:36Just name
19:37and address for them.
19:48So I'll tell you
19:49what happened.
19:50So they come to my house
19:51left their keys
19:51but got one out.
19:53My TVA smashed it last night
19:55and I fell off the table.
19:58Typical.
19:59I just went to buy one
20:00with somebody else
20:01that's all it was.
20:03So that's why you want it.
20:04So you've got the TV
20:05in there now?
20:05Yeah, I mean
20:06I could have walked
20:07like you don't get the bus
20:08there for just public transport
20:09but you know
20:10how am I going to get
20:11a 50-yard TV?
20:12That's all it was.
20:13You know what?
20:14Our advice is always
20:14going to be
20:15don't drive.
20:15I know, I know.
20:16It's so stupid.
20:17It's so stupid.
20:18I thought I'd just
20:18be quick.
20:19If you've got the key
20:20I'll take the key off you.
20:21Just get me
20:22a carry
20:22and I'll get me
20:23a telly
20:23of the jacket.
20:24Yeah, of course you can.
20:25I'll come and get you
20:25out, mate.
20:35I'm not sorry
20:35I'm bound to break this one.
20:37Yeah.
20:37Just pay $2.50
20:38for this one
20:39you know what I mean.
20:40That's not a bad price
20:41for that size
20:41telly though.
20:42And it's a Samsung.
20:46I'm not going to be
20:47nasty and deprive you
20:48of the control as well.
20:49Cheers, pal.
20:52See you later.
21:09At the end of the day
21:10he knows he shouldn't
21:11be driving.
21:12Car uplifted
21:13and the driver reported
21:14so yeah
21:15I'm quite happy with that.
21:19Seems a lot more
21:20bothered about
21:21getting the telly
21:21than he did
21:23the fact that
21:24we're taking
21:24the car off him
21:25which it would be
21:26the least of my worries
21:27but he's getting
21:29his telly out though
21:30so apart from
21:32the fact he's going
21:33to have to explain
21:33why the car's been
21:34uplifted
21:34I'm sure he'll
21:35still have a happy night.
21:49Where we're parked
21:51today
21:51the downside
21:54looking for a police car
21:55in a car park
21:55full of police cars
21:56they all look the same.
21:59You'd think
22:00I'd be searching
22:00away
22:01and know where
22:01they are
22:02but
22:02you keep looking
22:04for the lights
22:04flashing
22:04there it is
22:07and we'll see
22:08what went
22:08and stir up
22:09this morning.
22:10Missing car
22:11located
22:11now nothing
22:12can stop
22:13PC Bryan
22:14Council
22:14turning up
22:15the heat
22:15on dodgy drivers.
22:1812 hour shift
22:18ahead I think
22:19the first thing
22:19we're going to do
22:20is sort the heat
22:20now because
22:21it's 2 degrees
22:21outside
22:22and somebody's
22:22going to sit
22:23on cold
22:23and freezing
22:24but hey
22:26it's part of the fun
22:27isn't it?
22:37So I just went
22:38to Thailand
22:39we do at times
22:42see some
22:42devastating things
22:43so we do need
22:44a bit of time
22:45to recover.
22:48but then
22:49I went to Thailand
22:50and it rained
22:50and it rained
22:51and it rained
22:51and I got an upset
22:52tummy for three days
22:53so it wasn't
22:55the best hot
22:55so I just spotted
23:06this van
23:06it's got no
23:08brake lights
23:08working as we're
23:09going down the bank
23:10here
23:10and could result
23:12in a crash
23:13it seems a bit
23:16familiar
23:17the van
23:17I recognise
23:19the verge
23:19Tango 1286
23:21something
23:21yes yes
23:23can you run one
23:24through please
23:24ship and bank
23:25a blue van
23:28of some sort
23:29yes yes
23:42thank you
23:42I thought I recognised
23:44this one
23:44I have actually
23:45stopped them
23:45for the same thing
23:46brake lights
23:47not working
23:48still enough
23:49fixed it though
23:50a little bit
23:51naughty
23:52the fact that
23:56he's just
23:56gone through
23:56a red light
23:57as well
23:58things are
24:02stacking up now
24:03definitely
24:03for this driver
24:04Britain's roads
24:19are like a
24:20kitchen nightmare
24:22drivers giving
24:26each other
24:26a grilling
24:27simmering tensions
24:34reaching boiling
24:36point
24:36plenty of
24:39expletives
24:40and people
24:45forgetting
24:45they've left
24:46the burners
24:47on
24:56this van
24:57it's got no
24:59brake lights
25:00working
25:00I have actually
25:02stopped them
25:02for the same
25:03thing
25:03on the outskirts
25:05of Gateshead
25:06Brian's following
25:07a van driver
25:08he's had previous
25:09with
25:10he's just
25:13going through
25:13a red light
25:15as well
25:15brake lights
25:23red lights
25:24there's a bit
25:24of a theme
25:25coming on
25:25about red lights
25:26he obviously
25:28doesn't light
25:28well I've spoken to you before
25:45come and have a seat
25:46in my car
25:46thought I recognised
25:58the van
25:58it's the CM van
25:59so your brake lights
26:00still aren't working
26:01are they not
26:02is the top one not working
26:03is the top one
26:03the top one works
26:03but you've got to have
26:04the outer ones working
26:05which is a legal requirement
26:06and the last time I stopped you
26:08I told you that
26:09yes
26:09I give you the benefit
26:12of the doubt
26:12and I told you to go to the garage
26:13and repair it
26:14I'm going to stick a PG9
26:17on the vehicle today
26:17it prohibits the vehicle
26:19from being driven
26:20on a public road
26:21because you still haven't
26:22got it fixed
26:22in several weeks later
26:24ok
26:25next thing
26:27you've come down
26:28to the roundabout
26:29and you've sailed
26:30through the lights
26:30the next thing
26:33coming on from that
26:34is your stink
26:36of cannabis
26:36I stink of cannabis
26:42I'm going to require you
26:45to provide me
26:47with a sample of saliva
26:48for drug analysis
26:49have you got any cannabis
26:51on you?
26:51no I haven't
26:52do you use cannabis?
26:53I do
26:53well I did last night
26:55you did last night
26:55the likelihood then
26:57is you're going to test positive
26:58stick your tongue out
27:01and I'll wipe your tongue
27:02I'm not having a good time
27:09I'm having a terrible time
27:11my van's knock on
27:11and everything
27:12but it doesn't mean
27:14I shouldn't be dying
27:14no you shouldn't
27:16last time I stopped you
27:18I let you off
27:18and it turns out
27:19you made me look
27:20a bit of a mug
27:20back then
27:21so the way this test works
27:29takes up to 8 minutes
27:30to give me a reading
27:31and within 2 minutes
27:32it's already tested positive
27:34for cannabis
27:35he's now under arrest
27:37for driving
27:38with a drug concentration
27:39in excess of the specified limit
27:41sorry
27:44my life couldn't get any worse
27:48one thing
27:51that you can think of
27:52is we've stopped you
27:54and nobody's been hurt
27:55you're under the influence
27:56of drugs
27:57from last night
27:58it doesn't matter
27:59you're still driving
28:00is there anything
28:03in the van you need
28:04can I get my phone
28:06and my cord please
28:07I'll get those for you
28:08I can't believe this
28:10I've been a nightmare
28:11this
28:12alright
28:13something from
28:20simply having brake lights out
28:22progressed to
28:23a red light offence
28:24to a positive drug wipe
28:25so these things are worth doing
28:27so these things are worth doing
28:27so these things are worth doing
28:32not very happy when you give people the benefit of the doubt
28:54the opportunity to try and rectify a fault that is potentially dangerous
28:58and they still keep driving around
29:01he hasn't bothered
29:02he's chanced his luck
29:03but then the added fact
29:06is he's tested positive for cannabis on this occasion
29:09so
29:10you know
29:11is that why he's gone through a red light
29:13right in front of a marked police car
29:14is he's driving impaired
29:17it's quite scary
29:18when you think about it
29:19tonight's a fantastic night
29:38clear, blue sky, sun out, summer night
29:41perfect
29:43the sun always encourages people to go out and about
29:46so
29:48just have to find the ones that shouldn't be
29:51in sunny Sunderland
29:53local lad Tommy is showing his true colours
29:56the eldest
29:57send me a gun out of loom bands
29:59so I've got a red and white one
30:02just made a red and white because I'm a sun and supporter
30:06for me sins
30:08this is a new one
30:09that I'm wearing tonight for look
30:11I want a vehicle making a hole
30:12it's a black LDF5 with a red
30:23February
30:24whoa
30:26nine some of the trouble and you can see a little bit
30:32that's a little bit of progress
30:34to get through to that area
30:36That area.
30:42So we're looking for a dark-wired Audi
30:44with a red wing by the sounds of it.
30:49So I'm gonna put one on the Degenerate Road
30:51and then we'll just see if anything catches
30:53my eye from there.
30:57If it's doing an excessive speed as well,
30:59it's gonna cause mass injury, mass damage,
31:03so that's all sort of
31:06in your consideration when you're looking for it.
31:11So we're sort of in the area I know where it was last seen.
31:16Just need to get lucky once.
31:20Jolly, you know, you took enough stones,
31:22you've got to hit a window at some point.
31:27Oh, standby.
31:30Oh, hey.
31:32Here's what with this one.
31:33It's a different Audi.
31:35But let's see what's happening.
31:36970, I'll be.
31:46835, you'll check please, Washington Road.
31:48Just not in a great state, this one.
31:50I mean, it's got a bit of damage.
31:52It seems to think that's stopping after the red lights,
31:56how it's done.
31:57Oh, thank you.
31:58I'm sorry, you'll see.
32:00Thank you, it's Blackali.
32:01Good.
32:02Thank you, it's Blackali.
32:04It is recorded on our system.
32:06Try damage to the rear of the vehicle
32:08on both corners of the bumper.
32:11And...
32:14yeah, I think it doesn't look like it's working.
32:17Gotta check, don't get it stopped.
32:18What's the reason for stopping me?
32:38A few reasons.
32:40When I've turned up behind you and you've been at the red lights, you've been beyond
32:43the red lights?
32:44No, no.
32:45Then, if you put your hazards on first, do us a favour, just pop out of your car so
32:52you can see that it's not working.
32:53Who are you asking me?
32:54Yep, you're the driver.
32:55What is it for?
32:56Call myself down.
32:57No, no, no.
32:58I'm calm down.
32:59I'm just asking a question.
33:00Look at the car.
33:01Yeah, I know.
33:02This is...
33:03Saying you know it's not good enough.
33:04Okay.
33:05There's a reason I haven't repaired.
33:06First of all, this is hit and run.
33:08Right.
33:09There was a police...
33:10What's it called?
33:11Traffic police.
33:12Yeah.
33:13They investigated.
33:14They had to find the driver.
33:15So, I went to insurance.
33:16Insurance not put the wash in the hands of.
33:18So, what shall I do?
33:19Do you want me to pay?
33:20Right.
33:21So, I'm waiting for the police...
33:22Driving a car?
33:23No, no.
33:24Answer my question.
33:25Right.
33:26Do us a favour.
33:27Take a seat in the back of the car.
33:29Okay.
33:30Right.
33:31Is this your car?
33:32No, it's my Max car.
33:33Is your friend in the car with you?
33:34No.
33:35No, no.
33:36I'm...
33:37I'm sure to drive, mate.
33:38Have you still got the deals of that Audi on?
33:40You should have checked all this before you're pulling me over, mate.
33:43Right.
33:44Don't start telling us how to do my job.
33:46Mate, I'm not telling you.
33:47I'm just telling you my opinion.
33:48I'm not telling you.
33:49Better than I'm out.
33:50Out here is six black.
33:51There's nothing I've started for them in the minute.
33:53When I'm just going home, you're just pulling me just because my indicator is not working.
33:58Come on.
33:59Police...
34:00The guy was crushed into my car.
34:01Police doesn't...
34:02Well, putting their hands up...
34:03Right.
34:04The only thing that's important here is that car...
34:05Listen.
34:06Listen.
34:07Take a minute and listen.
34:09You're driving a car that isn't working with the indicator.
34:13So, what I am going to say to you is, take that car, take it back home, and it doesn't
34:18...
34:19Listen.
34:20It doesn't move until that's fixed.
34:21That car, seeing mobile again, will be prohibited.
34:25What that means is, the police will come down, and they will put a marker on that car to
34:29stop it being driven anywhere.
34:31I appreciate that you've got reasons for it.
34:33However, it doesn't change your fact.
34:35You're driving a car that's...
34:36It's not road legal.
34:37Your indicator doesn't work.
34:38It's just the indicator broke.
34:39It's just the indicator...
34:40No, no.
34:41That's not a just.
34:42The indicator's on there for the crack.
34:43It's a legal requirement for the indicator to work, and the indicator's not working.
34:47You're going to get the car home, and not drive.
34:49Listen, listen, get the car home.
34:50I do understand.
34:51Do you understand?
34:52Do you understand what I'm saying about your car?
34:54Yes.
34:55Yes, I do understand.
34:56I do really appreciate that.
34:57Brilliant.
34:58I'll get that fixed tomorrow.
34:59Excellent.
35:00Great, okay.
35:01Have a nice night.
35:02See you later now.
35:03See you later.
35:04See you later.
35:05See you later.
35:06You just never know who you're going to come with.
35:07See you later.
35:08You just never know who you're going to come across.
35:09And how receptive they are going to be.
35:10to being stopped.
35:11See you later.
35:12at least.
35:30You just never know who you're going to come across and how receptive they are going to
35:39be to being stopped by the police.
35:42Apparently, telling people which way you're going to turn on the road or what your actions
35:47are going to be is no requirement.
35:52It's exhausting, absolutely exhausting.
36:07So I'm back to waiting for this Audi.
36:14It's 3am in Newcastle and Jan and Jamie are sharing top tips for a winning night shift.
36:41Do you know the secret to night shift, I think, like not sleeping through, is if you need
36:47a wee, because we're all weeding about the same time, aren't we?
36:5011 o'clock.
36:51Hang on.
36:52It's like, go to the toilet with your eyes closed.
36:56City down wee, limit the water intake, go into bed, and don't open your eyes at any point.
37:03As soon as you open your eyes or check the clock, it's game over, you're up.
37:07What if you fall down the stairs?
37:10You're going to leave out the bottom of the stairs.
37:15Come behind us.
37:20What about this is?
37:28so this vehicle in front of us just doing about 50 in a 30 mile an hour zone
37:40and this might have potential this
37:43and he's just climbing up the curve there
37:50he's been on the wrong side of the road a couple of times
37:56i don't know if it's been stolen or he's drunk or something like that
38:00driving's very reckless
38:04spice up your life on britain's roads
38:21as wannabe racers think they're some kind of superstar
38:26stop right now or two become one
38:31whoa and when you slam your brakes down expect a zigzag
38:37so this vehicle in front of us just uh doing about 50 in a 30 mile an hour zone
38:52and he's just climbing up the curve there
38:55in gateshead jan and jamie are tailing a dangerous truck driver
39:01he's been in the wrong side of the road a couple of times
39:09don't know if it's been stolen or he's drunk or something like that
39:14driving's very reckless
39:19motorway cops know that shocking driving is often a sign of more serious offenses
39:26an illegal driver is causing chaos on the roads of sheffield
39:36as south yorkshire police try and catch up
39:38the suspect barrels through red lights
39:42over the central reservation and onto the wrong side of the road
39:48speeding headfirst into oncoming traffic
39:52more units force the driver off the road
39:56pinning the car against the wall
39:59but he's having none of it
40:01using the weight of the 4x4
40:04he rams his way free
40:06as the cops close in
40:11he heads down a narrow lane
40:15but loses control
40:17bringing the pursuit
40:19crashing to an end
40:21the driver was found guilty of driving while disqualified
40:25dangerous driving
40:26and attempting to pervert the course of justice
40:29he was jailed for two years and four months
40:33he's just climbing up the curve there
40:40his driving's very reckless
40:43back in gateshead
40:46jan and jamie are tailing an erratic truck driver
40:49get him in the back
41:03hello mate do you want to just have a seat in the back of my car

41:54that's massively concerning to me
41:57because you're doing like 50 through 30
42:01when you overtook us
42:03you must be able to remember overtaking to one of the 30 million an hour zone
42:08i'm sorry i just i'm really honestly just desperate to get home

42:21you should be a better driver
42:22yes
42:23yes exactly
42:24i should take more care
42:25because we've observed you committing a moving road traffic offense okay
42:28we've got a power under section 6 of the road traffic act
42:30to take a preliminary specimen of breath from you
42:32one year's one long continuous blow into this for us okay

44:20on his job
44:21from that
44:24it's a shame
44:26the amount of potholes are out around

32:30: Asking a cop the reason for being stopped immediately after he greets you is not a good way to start. Don't you think he's going to tell you at some point? Then, the prat thinks he doesn't need to fix it since the insurance won't cover it, which is bull, then, he becomes belligerent. What do people think they'll accomplish by interrupting and telling cops how to do their job?

25:35: The passenger door opened! Defective or did someone escape?

18:00: Wow. That "banned driving" thing is working great! =smh= "I'll tell you in person, but, I'm practicing my right to remain silent [about who owns the car]." Wow. That's not suspicious at all! Why doesn't the cop just enter the vehicle's tag into his computer or call dispatch? Why trust whatever the prat says/writes? FWIW, I walked over 3 city blocks to deliver a 60" TV in its box, because there was no parking near the city's electronics store! It wasn't easy, but, I managed!

7:30: Holding an old-style phone handle is, at best, difficult, and, at worst, dangerous. There should be a hands-free mic/speaker system installed in all cop cars (why don't they use their on-vest communicators?).

0:29: Offering to pay without knowing the extent of the damage is almost always a sign of someone trying to avoid higher insurance and/or going to court. A pick-up driver backed into me, crushing my bumper apron and headlight. He offered to pay, *if* I didn't call the cops. I did. Turned out, he has had multiple crashes. Surprise-surprise.
