00:00Barnaby Joyce has revealed he'll undergo surgery for prostate cancer tomorrow.
00:07The member for New England, who retained his seat at last night's federal election for
00:11the National Party, says the cancer was picked up in a precautionary screening ordered by
00:15his GP, known as a prostate-specific antigen test.
00:20The 58-year-old is positive about his prognosis and his ability to continue in his job.
00:24I'll have the operation on Monday and I will then have a couple days in hospital and recuperate
00:31after that.
00:32If I thought it was very serious, of course I'd resign, but my doctors or surgeons say,
00:36no, no, you're very lucky, you've got it early.
00:38Mr Joyce will spend a few days in hospital before taking some leave to recuperate, but
00:42he says it won't be an excessively long time off.
00:46He says he had no symptoms before his diagnosis and he's urging other men to get tested.
