00:51British Columbia has just hit the brakes on its immigration program.
00:55With federal nomination cuts slicing the province's intake by half, the BC provincial nominee
01:02program is under pressure like never before.
01:06As thousands of hopeful immigrants wait, only a few will now make the cut.
01:25First up, let's tell you about change number one.
01:29There's been a reduction in the nomination quota, which means fewer applicants will be selected
01:33through provincial nomination programs.
01:36The federal government has cut BC's allocation to just 4,000 nominations for 2025, down from
01:428,000.
01:44Of these, 2,900 will go to existing applications, while only 1,100 new spots remain, reserved for
01:54frontline healthcare workers, entrepreneurs, and high-impact skilled workers.
02:01Next, here's change number two.
02:03The healthcare stream has been narrowed, limiting eligibility to a more specific group of healthcare professionals.
02:11Only frontline roles, doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals are now eligible under
02:18the health authority stream.
02:20This means support staff and administrative roles are no longer included.
02:26Now on to change number three.
02:30The entrepreneur immigration stream remains open, which is good news for those looking to
02:35invest or start businesses in Canada.
02:39BC continues to issue invitations to apply under the entrepreneur stream.
02:45Candidates who can create jobs and contribute to economic growth are still being prioritized.
02:53Let's move to change number four.
02:55High-impact skilled workers are now being prioritized, especially in roles that directly support Canada's
03:01economic growth.
03:04General and priority occupation draws are suspended.
03:08Only 100 registrants will receive ITAs in 2025, selected based on job creation potential, investment,
03:16and regional development contributions.
03:20Following that, here's change number five.
03:24There's a new focus on early childhood educators, showing the government's recognition of their
03:30essential contribution.
03:32ECEs remain in targeted draws, but ECE assistants have been excluded.
03:39Only those with advanced qualifications are now prioritized.
03:43Now for change number six.
03:45The criteria for social and community service workers have been tightened, making it more difficult
03:51for some applicants in this sector.
03:54BC is working with the Ministry of Health to introduce stricter eligibility guidelines for
03:59social workers and community service professionals to raise professional standards.
04:05Coming up, change number seven.
04:09Student streams have been paused, which could affect many international graduates hoping to transition
04:14to permanent residency.
04:19Applications for three new student streams are on hold until nomination levels are restored.
04:24IPG applications submitted between September 1st, 2024, January 7th, 2025 are waitlisted.
04:35And finally, change number eight.
04:38IPG applications are facing delays, and work permit extensions are being reviewed more strictly,
04:44causing uncertainty for many temporary workers.
04:49Actions submitted before September 1st, 2024, will be processed this year.
04:55BC is coordinating with IRCC to extend work permits for waitlisted IPG applicants, DOT.
05:06Before we end today's video, let's do the conclusion.
05:12BC's 2025 immigration reforms are a stark reminder that limited federal allocations can reshape
05:19provincial priorities overnight.
05:22With tighter eligibility and fewer invitations, only the most strategically aligned candidates
05:27will secure nominations.
05:28The clock is ticking, and preparation is critical.
