Writer Maggie O'Farrell talks to Janet Christie about 25 years at the top and her book Hamnet being turned into a film with Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal

00:00Maggie O'Farrell, it's 25 years since you published after you'd gone.

00:04How does it feel to have all of your books being republished for the 25th anniversary?

00:09It's very exciting and I can't really believe it's been that long.

00:14But I feel simultaneously quite old and also just very fortunate actually

00:21to have been doing a job that I love for that long.

00:25And it's wonderful to see the books in their new jackets.

00:27They look so beautiful and fresh and modern.

00:31Yeah, it's great. It's all good.

00:33Okay, and Hamnet's been made into a film with Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal.

00:37Can you tell us when that will be out?

00:39I don't know yet. That's not really up to me unfortunately.

00:42But I can say that it's looking absolutely beautiful.

00:46Chloe Zell, the director, has done an incredible job.

00:48She had such a strong vision for the story.

00:51And both the leads, Jessie and Paul, just absolutely light up the screen.

00:55So I can't wait for everybody else to see it.

00:57Okay, and you're currently working on your tenth novels?

01:01That sounds quite right.

01:03Yes. Can you tell us what it's about?

01:05I can't I'm afraid. I would love to be able to tell you.

01:07But I'm not allowed to tell you.

01:09And also, I am quite superstitious talking about books that I haven't finished yet.

01:13But I've got a deadline for July and I'm working hard.

01:16But I'm not sitting in cafes chatting.

01:18I'm working hard to meet her.

01:20Okay, thank you very much.
