00:01Let's do a thought experiment together, shall we?
00:04Now, imagine you're climbing the Himalayas.
00:07However, you're lost.
00:09Where you are seems to be an isolated valley.
00:12You used all your food and water source and don't know which way to go.
00:16You're so out of energy that you don't even know if you'll be able to get back home.
00:21Suddenly, in the distance, you see a sage-looking man walking towards you.
00:26However, you can't help but to close your eyes as you are defeated by fatigue.
00:32You open your eyes to a totally new place.
00:35The sage is sitting right next to you.
00:37He says,
00:38Hello, traveler, and welcome to the land of immortals.
00:43That sounds like the beginning of an Indiana Jones movie, right?
00:46But what if I told you that such a place actually is said to exist,
00:51according to some legends, beliefs, and ancient texts?
00:54Indian-Tibetan texts mention a place called Gyangaj,
01:00also known as Shambhala or Shangri-la, depending on different cultures.
01:05This legendary city is the home of immortal beings and is a land of spiritual enlightenment.
01:11Take one of its names, Shambhala, for example.
01:14It literally means the source of happiness in the Sanskrit language.
01:18So, accordingly, you would expect this celestial kingdom to be surrounded by all things of great
01:24beauty and wonder, with gardens and other mighty and majestic structures.
01:29The ancient beliefs and myths state that when you enter Gyangaj,
01:34you will immediately be reminded of the structure of a lotus flower with eight petals.
01:39The place is surrounded by mountains covered with snow.
01:42It has beautiful waterfalls, crowning into a pure and divine lake,
01:47and its water has extremely strong therapeutic powers.
01:50The whole place is illuminated by milky white light at all times,
01:54and this is neither due to the sun nor the moon.
01:58There are also phosphoric plants that can give desired light on voice commands.
02:03A hundred types of other delightful flowers keep blooming all year round in its gardens,
02:08in addition to countless trees where delicious fruits grow.
02:12But one tree is known to be the most special one,
02:15and that is the tree of immortality, or the tree of life.
02:20Described as a shimmering crystal, it stands at the center of Gyangaj and unites the skies,
02:25the earth, and the underworld.
02:28The fruits of it resemble an abstract form of Sri Yantra,
02:32a mystical diagram used in Hinduism, which consists of nine interlocking triangles.
02:37However, nobody is allowed to take these fruits out of Gyangaj itself.
02:42The only way to do it is if you get permission from the inhabitants of the city.
02:47This brings us to the question of who lives in this magical and mystical city.
02:53According to the legends, Gyangaj is inhabited by a great number of advanced masters,
02:58or in other words, sages,
03:00who subtly guide the destiny of the world through meditation.
03:04They are eternal beings, who are not affected by any human desires or sorrows.
03:10Their duty is to protect the spiritual teachings of the world
03:13and work for the good of humanity, as well as all conscious beings.
03:17It's also believed that during a time of great chaos in the world,
03:21the 25th ruler of this Gyangaj will appear among them to lead the planet to a better future.
03:27These sages and eternal beings who live there are somehow also the protectors of Gyangaj.
03:34So, if you were thinking of just casually walking into this place with a map in your hands,
03:39sorry to inform you, but that's not happening.
03:42First of all, no one really knows where exactly Gyangaj is.
03:46Some people believe it's in a remote valley in the Himalayas.
03:50Some claim it's in a hidden cave.
03:52There are also people who think it's on a mountain range,
03:56and others suspect it's on a secluded plateau.
03:59So, the location of the city is a mystery, and seems like it will stay that way,
04:04since it is also said that the immortal sages who live in Gyangaj
04:08camouflage the valley from humans by creating some kind of an energy field.
04:13So, Google Maps can't help you with it either.
04:15That's why some even suggest, including the Dalai Lama,
04:19that it exists in a different plane of reality altogether.
04:24In some of the ancient texts, there are actually a few instructions on how to access Gyangaj.
04:30However, the directions are said to be incomprehensible, the way I get sometimes.
04:35But let's pretend for a second that you did crack the instructions,
04:40and the immortal beings living there were willing to grant you entrance.
04:43Unfortunately, you still might not be able to enter this cosmic city.
04:48And here's why.
04:49It is believed that only enlightened masters or sages,
04:53who have a certain karmic connection with it, will be able to reach there.
04:57So, what do the eternal beings of such a magical place do there?
05:02Remember, they have all the time in their hands.
05:05The ancient texts state that Gyangaj has a center and 16 areas
05:10that are all meant for 16 different sciences to be studied.
05:14These include solar sciences, universal planetary sciences,
05:17sciences related to time, the science of air,
05:21the science related to the sun and the moon,
05:23the science related to space,
05:25the science related to gravitational forces, and so on.
05:29What they all have in common is that to be able to learn them,
05:33you first need to have a very high understanding of energy.
05:36The level of courses that are studied is extremely advanced,
05:40and these teachings are still unknown even in these modern times.
05:44Each scientific system has different departments,
05:47and all these departments have their respective teachers.
05:50Since time doesn't work as we understand there,
05:53and immortality is possible,
05:55most of these teachers are hundreds or even thousands of years old.
05:59They can stay in their spiritual bodies,
06:02which appear like a mass of bright light,
06:04while their physical bodies remain separate.
06:07What a school, huh?
06:08It almost makes Hogwarts seem boring.
06:10And does anybody actually graduate from there?
06:13Of course, all these stories and mysteries about Gyangaj
06:17have attracted many people from all around the world.
06:21Countless attempts to find this land of immortality
06:24and spiritual awakening have been made by mountaineers and trekkers,
06:28including President Franklin Roosevelt himself.
06:30But as you might have guessed, they led to nothing.
06:35Still, there were a few people like renowned spiritual leaders,
06:38sages, and adventure seekers who claimed they had visited it.
06:42One of them was Sri Gopanoff Kavaraj,
06:45a celebrated scholar who was the first person in modern times
06:49to have allegedly found the place.
06:51After his supposed visit to Gyanganj,
06:54he wrote a book about it and made the place popular in modern culture.
06:58Upon reading his book, many other enthusiastic foreign scholars
07:02rushed into Tibet to learn more about it,
07:04as well as try to find it.
07:07Another person who claimed to have been there
07:09was a mountaineer who got lost in the Himalayas.
07:12According to his story, after getting lost,
07:15he was feeling hungry,
07:16so he accidentally consumed poison mushrooms.
07:19Feeling completely disoriented by them,
07:22he stumbled upon a mountain with a gap,
07:24which was covered by fog.
07:26Then he fell inside.
07:29After getting back up to his feet,
07:30he realized that he was surrounded by people
07:33dressed in strange clothes who tended to his wounds.
07:36After he was fully healed,
07:38they escorted him out of the city.
07:41Then there was the spiritual leader,
07:43Guru Sai Kaka,
07:44who revealed to the world about his
07:46not one, but many visits to Gyanganj.
07:49As per his narration,
07:51he claimed to go there,
07:52seeking spiritual and immortal teachings.
07:54He stated that a sage escorted him into the city
07:58every time he visited the place.
08:00In his stories,
08:01he also pointed out that the kingdom exists
08:04in a higher dimension.
08:06One other so-called visitor to Gyanganj
08:08was L.P. Farrell,
08:10an English officer,
08:11who claimed to have experienced
08:13the mystical place in 1942.
08:16Even if all these stories and descriptions
08:18about Gyanganj are able to give us a vivid picture,
08:21it can still be hard for many
08:23to keep an open mind about its existence.
08:26Yet again,
08:27it's not hard to admit that
08:29even the idea of such a place,
08:31where immortality is possible
08:33and truly moral beings are working
08:35to protect humanity,
08:36is comforting,
08:37mind-blowing,
08:38and fascinating.
08:40That's it for today.
