00:40Manila Bay reclamation projects, harm fishing areas, and marine ecosystems.
00:44The projects aim to ease Metro Manila's congestion by adding more than 6,000 hectares of new land.
00:49Physical oceanographer Charina Repolio says this will put the same environmental pressure
00:54as building four business districts over the next 30 years.

00:58The study also found that the reclamation may increase flooding in lowland areas as it impedes the flow of water into Manila Bay.
01:16Experts also assessed water quality, noting pathogenic bacteria and toxic heavy metal.
01:21The study also shows dredging and land reclamation reduces fishing areas.
01:26Mangrove forests, which protect the coast and help fish grow, are also at risk.
01:31Environment Secretary Tony Yulo-Loyzaga says that the study provides the agency a starting point for Manila-based rehabilitation.
01:38Loyzaga notes reclamation has helped development in other countries,
01:41but it should be done in a, quote,
01:42The Commission on Elections 1st Division disqualifies Quezon Province congressional candidate Matt Irwin Florido.
01:52This over an incident deemed by the poll body to have been vote-buying.
01:56In a decision released on Wednesday, April 30, the Comalek 1st Division approved a petition to disqualify the candidate for 3rd district representative of Quezon
02:04for, quote,
02:04"...substantial evidence that Florido committed vote-buying during an April 6 event."
02:09Five petitioners, who are voters and residents of Buena Vista, Quezon,
02:13said that Florido's representative Ricky Anyayahan invited them to a, quote,
02:16"...gathering or orientation hosted by Florido."
02:19Florido gave a speech where he openly asked for votes,
02:22then the attendees were given red campaign t-shirts and brown envelopes containing 1,000 pesos each.
02:28Florido tried to discredit the petition and also denied buying votes,
02:31but the Comalek did not accept his defense.
02:34Comalek Chairman George Garcia says that this is the first big disqualification case for vote-buying.

03:00Columbia University student Moshen Madawi was released from U.S. immigration custody on Wednesday.
03:07This after a judge ruled he should be free on bail to challenge the Trump administration's efforts
03:11to deport him over his participation in pro-Palestinian protests.
03:15Madawi was arrested earlier this month when he showed up for a U.S. citizenship interview.
03:19A judge swiftly ordered the Trump administration not to deport him or move him out of Vermont.
03:24Judge Crawford says Madawi was not a threat to the public or likely to run away.
03:29He also compared today's political climate to the Red Scare and McCarthyism
03:32when many were deported for their political beliefs.
03:35Madawi's release was a setback for the Trump administration's push to deport pro-Palestinian foreign students.
03:40Trump officials have said students and green card holders could be deported for supporting Palestinians
03:45or criticizing Israel's actions in the Gaza war, claiming it threatens U.S. foreign policy.
03:51All security personnel of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, or NAIA,
03:55are no longer allowed to touch travelers' passports.
03:59The rule applies when a passenger enters any NAIA terminal and when they go through security verification.
04:04NAIA's new private operator, new NAIA Infra Corporation,
04:08says passengers will be asked to show their valid ID or travel document by holding it up themselves.
04:13This comes over a week after a passenger was initially denied a boarding pass by a Cebu Pacific ground staff
04:19because of a small tear in his passport.
04:21But when the passenger tried checking in via the senior citizen counter,
04:24the person was issued a boarding pass.
04:27The passenger still ended up being blocked from boarding the plane to Indonesia.
04:30Some airport staff said his passport was fine, causing further confusion.
04:35The passenger's family alleged the ground staff may have caused the small tear.
04:39Following the incident, the Transportation Department tells airlines
04:42to make sure their personnel do not tamper with passports.
