00:00Good morning, happy Thursday, here is your market open update.
00:07Canadian stocks pointed lower Thursday as futures slipped,
00:10dragged down by falling oil and gold prices,
00:12with fresh U.S. economic contraction fueling demand worries across commodities.
00:16The TSX index was down 0.2% as that's 6.30 Eastern Time, the venture also in the red.
00:22Futures of the Dow popped up 23 points and the Nasdaq dropped 134 points.
00:26Peeking at some headlines, Canada's economy receded by 0.2% in February,
00:32but economists suggest the downturn isn't yet a direct result of the U.S. tariff threats.
00:37And U.S. President Donald Trump acknowledged that his sweeping tariff program
00:41had risked imperiling him politically,
00:43but said he would not rush deals to appease nervous investors during a town hall on Wednesday.
00:48Switching to currency futures, the Canadian dollar is holding steady at 72 cents U.S.,
00:53lost some ground against the euro and Bitcoin skips up 1%.
00:56Finishing off with commodity futures with copper on the rise by over 0.5%,
01:01gold steeply dropping over 2%.
01:03WTI continues to slide and currently sitting at $57 U.S. a barrel.
01:07And natural gas adds on over 1%.
