Worthing singer-songwriter Brooke Dawn is excited to be releasing her debut single Brighter Than The Sun.

00:07always to speak to Brooke Dorn. Now, Brooke, we've been chatting for several years now,

00:11haven't we, about your musical hopes and aspirations and what you're doing. But this

00:17is a really, really exciting moment, isn't it? Because this is your first ever release

00:22and it's brighter than the sun and you're releasing it on, well, a gig party, a release

00:28party, Saturday, May the 10th at 5 to 7.30 p.m. at Water Bear venue in Brighton. Now, how

00:36first does it feel to bring out your debut single? Does that feel like pressure or is that

00:41excitement? It's really exciting. I mean, I'm so glad to finally have something out. This

00:47has been a journey for a while and I've taken this seriously and wanted to have music released

00:52since I was about 12 years old. So to finally have something legitimate that I can give proof

00:58of myself as an artist. I mean, it feels like a privilege now, but all the work that I've

01:02put into it, you know, I think I've earned it. And I'm just so excited to finally give

01:08the world something that I've created, you know.

01:10You should be excited. It's a massive moment, isn't it? But the really funny thing is that

01:14this song is not necessarily typically you. This is a happy song and you don't have happy

01:20songs normally, do you?

01:21Yeah, it's a bit different to my usual stuff. I mean, I've always been known to have those

01:26sad, depressing songs, you know, love to make the audience cry. But this one's really

01:31sweet. It's really like young, innocent, love story kind of vibes. And it's, I think it's

01:37a nice change from my usual stuff, you know, keep everyone on their toes. And I always get

01:42a good reaction out of the audience, even if they're not crying, you know, they can cry

01:46happy tears.

01:46Will you go back to depressing after this or will you stay?

01:49Absolutely. You know, I love my depressing tunes, yes. Get there eventually. But we'll have

01:56this one for now. Give you a nice one.

01:57And it all comes at a super exciting time because you are just finishing your course

02:02in Brighton and heading off to university.

02:04I am.

02:04You're at 18 now, heading off to university in the autumn.

02:08I am going for it.

02:09That's a big move, isn't it? Big, big step.

02:11It's a big step. Moving up to London to go to ICMP. I'm really excited.

02:16And your degree will be?

02:18Songwriting and artist development. So similar to what I'm doing now at college, songwriting,

02:23but, you know, bigger and better. And in London, which is big stuff.

02:28And you're feeling ready. You must feel ready.

02:30Going off to start the course with a debut single behind you. That's pretty cool, isn't it?

02:35That's good. It feels great. Yeah, I'm really excited.

02:38Brilliant. Well, so having spoken to you for a number of years now, huge congratulations.

02:43It's a massive opportunity.
