00:00The Penang High Court has upheld the open verdict by the Coroner's Court regarding the
00:06death of Australian National Anna Perrani Jenkins, also known as Anna Jenkins, after
00:12finding no conclusive evidence to classify her death as murder.
00:17Justice Rofia Mohamad ruled on Monday that the cause of Jenkins' death could not be conclusively
00:22established based on the facts presented in the inquest.
00:25However, she said the DPP has discretion under the Criminal Procedure Code to issue further
00:31instructions on how the investigation should proceed, particularly in the area where the
00:36deceased's body was found.
00:38The deceased's son, Gregory Stephen Jenkins, had filed the revision application for the
00:43court to reach the same conclusion as the Australian authorities, that his mother died from injuries
00:50to her left side based on tests on bone fragments before she was buried.
00:54When met outside the courtroom, Gregory said he hoped that the DPP, after consulting with
01:01his lawyer, would agree to reopen the investigation into the case.
01:05Anna, then 66, who was born in Parit Buntar, Perak, had returned for a routine visit to Penang
01:12with her Australian husband before she vanished after getting off an e-hailing ride on a busy
01:17street in 2017.
01:19Her body was found in a construction site near the Penang Turf Club on June 24, 2020.
