00:00One of Penang's most critical waterworks upgrades has been unexpectedly delayed by the moon.

00:07The ongoing new moon phase is causing intense high tides,

00:11raising river and groundwater levels and flooding pits dug for underground pipe installations,

00:17hampering progress.

01:34Pathmanathan reprimanded contractors for not anticipating the supermoon tides,

01:39which led to one end of a pipeline becoming submerged.

01:42Despite the setback, Pathmanathan assured that 40% of affected areas would have water restored by 10pm on Saturday,

01:50with full restoration expected by Monday,

01:53as air trapped in the grid must be released to resume full flow.

01:57At the site of the final section of a 1.35 metre diameter pipe spanning Sungai Perai,

02:03crews continue challenging work.

02:05The new pipe, replacing one that burst dramatically last year,

02:09must be welded inside and out to endure high water pressure,

02:13with welders rotating every 45 minutes due to the intense heat inside the pipe.
