00:00Welcome back to another episode from Simply Awesome Planet.
00:03Most people know the tragedy of the Titanic, but few have heard of Jenny.
00:08The cat who may have sensed the disaster before anyone else.
00:12Jenny wasn't just any cat.
00:14She was the ship's official mouser, brought on board to keep the rat population in check.
00:19During Titanic's sea trials, she gave birth to a litter of kittens,
00:24and was lovingly cared for by a crewman named Jim Mulholland.
00:28Jim made her a warm little nest near the galley, close to the heat of the boilers.
00:34During breaks he'd sneak her bits of food.
00:36Their quiet routine brought a rare sense of calm amid the rush of preparing the world's grandest ship for its maiden voyage.
00:44But then, something changed.
00:46A few days before Titanic was set to depart Southampton, Jenny's behavior grew restless,
00:51and then, without warning, she began carrying her kittens one by one off the ship,
00:57down the gangway, to land, and she never came back.
01:01Jim watched her, and something clicked.
01:04That cat knows something.
01:06Something we don't.
01:07Trusting her instincts, or maybe his own,
01:10Jim packed his bag, quietly stepped off the ship.
01:13He never returned.
01:14We all know what happened next.
01:17Years later, Jim, now an old man, told his story to a journalist.
01:21He credited Jenny with saving his life.
01:23Her instinct, ancient, quiet, and unwavering,
01:27may have been the only real warning anyone ever received.
01:31Really makes you think, doesn't it?
01:32Because sometimes heroes don't wear uniforms.
01:35Sometimes they have fur, whiskers, and a heart that simply knows.
