Bueno, hola, chicos. Es Gonzalo de Hipertextual en España.
00:02
First of all, congratulations.
00:03
Again, it's amazing.
00:05
It's amazing.
00:06
Thank you, Gonzalo.
00:08
Thank you.
00:09
My first question is for you, Genevieve,
00:11
because this show has given Mon Modma
00:14
the importance that she actually deserves
00:17
because she has always been a secondary character in Star Wars,
00:20
but she's actually one of the most important in the whole galaxy.
00:24
So how has it been for you,
00:25
this whole experience of having a chance to explore her more?
00:29
Thank you.
00:30
Thanks.
00:32
I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to play her,
00:37
this extraordinary character, this version of her.
00:42
I think it's testament to Tony Gilroy's writing
00:45
that he wrote this story for this woman.
00:48
I think you're right.
00:49
She has been important within the world before,
00:52
but she's not been there very much.
00:56
So for him and his writers and the team
00:59
to allow story time for her to learn about her
01:04
and what it costs and what it takes to be this woman
01:06
was a privilege that I can only be grateful for.
01:12
I'm thrilled for me because I got the opportunity to play this
01:16
and I'm also thrilled for the character.
01:18
I'm thrilled that she got a platform
01:20
and thrilled that we get to see her.
01:22
Yeah, that's something that lots of fans were expecting,
01:25
so that has been amazing.
01:27
I think we can all agree that Andor is something different.
01:31
Also from season one, we all had this perspective
01:34
that it's something different in the Star Wars universe.
01:36
How do you think that Andor has changed Star Wars as a franchise?
01:41
Yeah, I understand that there's this feeling around it's different
01:46
and lots of people have said that it's impacted them in a different way.
01:51
I think the main thing is that it's about human relationships
01:55
and human beings and stories that we can all relate to
02:02
that happen to be set in a galaxy far, far away.
02:05
And I think that resonates with human beings that are watching the show
02:08
and we hold the mirror up as the storytellers
02:11
and we go, does this look like you?
02:15
So for me, I think it's had a personal kind of effect on people.
02:20
I think the umbrella of Star Wars or the idea of science fiction,
02:27
when it's at its best, which is what Tony, I think, is writing,
02:31
is that it is universal or intergalactic in its themes,
02:37
but at the heart of it, it's very intimate.
02:41
It's about people and relationship, like Faye said.
02:46
Yeah, I totally agree.
02:47
Lots of people say that Andor has made Star Wars for adults, in a way,
02:52
because it has always been a familiar franchise.
02:55
Do you think that it can actually happen,
02:57
that a Star Wars product can actually, I don't know,
03:01
talk about some important themes or topics like this one,
03:05
or this is like one in a time?
03:07
I think Star Wars, when it's at its best,
03:10
and that has been historically, crosses generations.
03:13
I think it can reach grandparents, parents, and children.
03:18
And I would have to say, yes, Andor is,
03:22
and I think there's a lot of people who really appreciate its depth of story
03:26
and its intricacy.
03:27
So I understand adults feel like it's rich enough for them,
03:33
but I would also say that my kids love it.
03:36
Like, I do think Andor also can access many generations.
03:42
I think it's that good.
03:44
I like their perspective.
03:46
To echo that, yeah, it's, I think the human relationships can draw people in.
03:51
I think that the richness, I think that's a really good word,
03:54
it's rich and it's full for everybody.
03:56
Yeah.
03:57
Yeah, by the way, I totally agree with you guys.
03:58
So now I want to ask you because we have seen some very sad moments
04:05
in the recent years in Star Wars where some people criticize it
04:09
for being like woke or too diverse or something like that.
04:13
So which one would you say is the key for Andor to success
04:16
when it's actually the most reivindicative show?
04:19
I think what is really important to note,
04:23
and that I feel quite passionate about,
04:24
is that this is just normalizing the normal,
04:27
that this has been going on, you know,
04:30
queer people and gay people have been going on
04:31
since the beginning of time, and it will go on till the end of time.
04:34
And I always remember talking to Tony in season one
04:37
and him just saying that he wanted it to be
04:39
just like any other relationship, that there's no big reveal.
04:42
They're just two people who happen to be both female.
04:45
We're normalizing the normal.
04:47
And the more exposure we can give to that
04:49
and the more, I don't know, just human kindness we can put into that,
04:55
the better it is for all of us.
04:56
And I think Star Wars and Andor is a great platform for that
05:01
because we have different planets, different cultures,
05:05
we have creatures, we have, you know,
05:07
we have every type of human and non-human
05:11
that we could possibly have.
05:13
And situation.
05:14
So what a textured place to play.
05:18
Yeah, it's hilarious.
05:19
I never understood why people are not mad about Wookiees,
05:22
but are mad about gay people in Star Wars.
05:25
Now I want to ask you about Valencia
05:27
because you actually showed the second season here.
05:30
Yes!
05:31
How has it been?
05:32
Because it actually plays a big, big,
05:34
it's like another character in this show.
05:37
So how has it been?
05:38
You were there much longer than me.
05:40
I did two days there and was very upset about that.
05:43
But it was beautiful.
05:44
The views, the people, the food.
05:46
But I'm going to...
05:46
That's right, because we went to...
05:48
We went to that beautiful restaurant.
05:50
No, no, where did we go in the mountains?
05:51
Oh, the mountains.
05:52
Outside Barcelona.
05:54
Where was that?
05:56
Wait there, it'll come.
05:57
Oh, we'll come to that.
05:58
But then we went to Valencia.
06:00
I can't imagine us ever having, being able to...
06:03
It was like Valencia was made for us.
06:06
That Museum of Arts and Sciences,
06:08
it does, it looks spectacular.
06:11
I remember one evening doing a night shoot
06:14
and being there with Stellan
06:15
and us having this beautiful scene,
06:17
which I think is in episode eight or nine.
06:19
And I remember the sounds of the city
06:22
and within the architecture of that piece.
06:25
I remember, I remember it so fondly.
06:28
I wish I was back there now.
06:30
Valencia, I brought my children, my husband.
06:32
We all went, we walked along the beach.
06:34
We had the most beautiful food.
06:36
We went out for dinner.
06:38
It was, we went hiking in the mountains.
06:43
I mean, take us back there now, please.
06:46
It was beautiful.
06:47
I cannot remember the name of the...
06:48
It's sort of up a hill in Barcelona,
06:52
just outside of Barcelona.
06:53
And there's a beautiful monastery.
06:54
So, the monasteries.
06:55
Montserrat, maybe?
06:56
Yes, Montserrat.
06:57
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
06:59
Montserrat, that's what we were.
07:01
So, yeah, Montserrat and Valencia.
07:02
And you're right.
07:03
It feels like a character within the piece.
07:06
Yeah.
07:07
It's actually, I think, very special
07:08
because when you think about the Star Wars filming,
07:11
you always think about green screens
07:12
or the stagecraft.
07:14
So, I guess, like, filming in a real place,
07:17
it had to be something different,
07:19
something special for you, right?
07:20
But, yeah.
07:21
Yeah, I mean, forevermore now,
07:25
the Star Wars Senate will be Valencia.
07:28
No, you're right.
07:29
But I think you're right.
07:30
When we're gifted as actors with real sets,
07:35
with real locations,
07:37
with the textures of the buildings,
07:39
and we can access it.
07:44
It's so beautiful.
07:46
And it informs our performances.
07:49
And Valencia will always be a part of that.
07:52
Yeah, love it.
07:53
And I want to ask you, Genevieve,
07:54
because you have actually debuted in Star Wars 20 years ago.
07:59
It's been a lot of time.
08:00
So, I wanted to ask,
08:01
how do you see the future of the franchise
08:03
now that it has to face all these changes
08:05
with Kathleen Kennedy looking for a substitute
08:07
and all like that?
08:08
How do you see the future of this franchise?
08:10
I think Star Wars speaks across cultures,
08:17
across generations,
08:18
to many different people.
08:20
I think its simplicity of message
08:22
is something universal,
08:24
and people love it.
08:26
I feel terribly fortunate to be a part of it.
08:30
And I think its message is a beautiful message.
08:34
And I hope it can continue
08:37
to bring thought and joy
08:41
and compassion
08:43
to people in the future
08:46
as much as we're striving for in Andor.
08:49
Yes.
08:50
How beautiful is that?
08:51
I have to wrap up.
08:52
Guys, again, congratulations,
08:54
because this show is amazing,
08:55
and you did an amazing work.
08:57
Thank you.
08:57
Thank you so much.
08:58
Bye, love.
08:59
Thank you.
08:59
Bye, love.
