Weather Update: Heatwave Grips Most Of India, IMD Issues Warnings Across States

Several locations will exceed at least 40°C as temperatures for Central India are rising close to 2°C. Eastern India is seeing an even sharper increase.

00:00The India Meteorological Department or the IMD has predicted above normal maximum temperatures

00:08for large parts of Northwest, Central and Eastern India between April and June.

00:14In its seasonal outlook, the IMD warned that the number of heatwave days this summer

00:19might be significantly higher than usual, especially over Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab,

00:25Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Western Madhya Pradesh.

00:30In Maharashtra, the Vidharp region has already experienced heatwave conditions

00:34with maximum temperatures expected to soar to 44 degrees Celsius over the next couple of days.

00:47In the coastal regions, the temperature of 33 to 36 degrees Celsius has been affected.

00:55After Maharashtra, the temperature of 38 to 40 degrees Celsius has been affected.

01:02After Vidarbha, the temperature of 42 to 44 degrees Celsius has been affected.

01:10After Vidarbha, the heat wave has been realized.

01:15Temperatures are also rising in Chhattisgarh,

01:18even though they had been below normal for the past couple of weeks due to thunderstorm activity.

01:45The coastal areas of Odisha are also likely to experience hot and humid conditions over the next three days.

01:55The hot and humid conditions are very likely to prevail over the coastal district of Odisha.

02:02On 24th and 25th, heat wave conditions are very likely to occur at isolated pockets in the district of Sundargad,

02:08Jhatsugada, Sambalpur, Sundpur, Angul, Baud, Ballangi, Nuwapada.

02:13In addition to that, hot and humid conditions are also very likely to prevail over the districts of coastal Odisha.

02:20And the temperature forecast, if we see, there is rise in maximum temperature on an average by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius over the state during the next three days,

02:30and thereafter no large changes likely.

02:34The IMD declares a heat wave when the maximum temperature is at least 40 degrees Celsius in the plains,

02:4037 degrees Celsius in the coastal areas and 30 degrees Celsius in hilly regions,

02:46and the temperature is 4.5 to 6.4 degrees Celsius above normal.

02:52A severe heat wave is declared if the departure is 6.5 degrees Celsius or more.

02:59The year 2024 was the warmest recorded both in India and globally.

03:04However, this year heat wave conditions were observed as early as February 27th and 28th.

03:11The first official heat wave of 2024 was recorded on April 5th.
