00:00:00It allows himself to have a chance every time.
00:00:02It allows him to have a chance even when he's not playing well.
00:00:05Here was Russ after game one describing his role on the Nuggets.
00:00:10The coach said you were more like a safety on defense.
00:00:13You were kind of playing. Did you feel that way?
00:00:15It didn't start right early.
00:00:17Yeah, yeah, my job is to, you know, they have the dynamic role of a zoo
00:00:21and great cutters and the guys that catch lobs.
00:00:24And my job is to be able to be the low man and find ways to,
00:00:27excuse my language, but s***.
00:00:30You know, I think this is a really delicate time for him in his career.
00:00:37You know, there was once upon a time where when he played with Durant
00:00:40and played with Harden, like they were looked at as a team
00:00:43that could win the championship, kind of got away from that.
00:00:46Right now, this time, if they play well, if he play well,
00:00:49if he could possibly win a championship.
00:00:50So I know he's going to take his game to that next level.
00:00:53Jamal Murray is out, so he's asked to do a little bit more.
00:00:56But I agree with Chuck.
00:00:57Chuck, he does everything right, and you don't mind his mistakes.
00:01:00But he's playing well.
00:01:01So kudos to Russ.
00:01:02But that being said, I thought the Clippers blew that game.
00:01:06I did.
00:01:07I mean, Russ made some great plays.
00:01:08And there was three offensive rebounds in a row that the Nuggets got in a row
00:01:14that would have changed the entire outcome of that game.
00:01:17The Clippers could not get a rebound.
00:01:19Three in a row with the lead.
00:01:21But I'm telling you something, man.
00:01:23I actually thought the Clippers, I thought they outplayed the Nuggets,
00:01:26to be honest with you, in my opinion.
00:01:27Turnovers killed the Clippers.
00:01:29A hundred percent.
00:01:30Yeah, Clippers typically.
00:01:32Twenty?
00:01:33Yeah.
00:01:34Yeah, 20 turnovers?
00:01:35And look at that.
00:01:36Twenty-nine to nine in points off turnovers.
00:01:38Not only turning the ball over, but Denver cashing in on those.
00:01:41Twenty turnovers is, man, that's crazy.
00:01:45Yeah, their turnovers were forced.
00:01:49There's unforced errors where you dribble and the ball goes out of bounds.
00:01:51You get a chance to get back on defense.
00:01:53But forced turnovers, as well, is when you pass it and they intercept
00:01:57and they're now in transition.
00:01:59And you had a lot of transitional turnovers from the Clippers,
00:02:05which was a little bit uncharacteristic,
00:02:06because they don't turn the ball over and make those kind of mistakes.
00:02:10That's exactly what Teron Liu was saying after the game, too.
00:02:13He said their staff looked at game film.
00:02:17Here are the 20 turnovers.
00:02:18Eleven of them, he said, were just carelessness.
00:02:22Carelessness, they were uncharacteristic, using your word right there.
00:02:26The one with, obviously the last one with Russ,
00:02:29but they had a one-point lead, I think, and Kawhi got the ball on the wing,
00:02:35and somebody just knocked it off his arm.
00:02:37That was a big one.
00:02:39But, man, the Clippers.
00:02:41That was the Jamal Murray play.
00:02:42Yes.
00:02:44Hit him in the elbow and went out.
00:02:46But I tell you what, though, this is going to be a fun game.
00:02:49These two games tonight, there's so much pressure on the Pistons and the Clippers
00:02:55because you do not want to go home down 0-2,
00:02:59because then you talk about pressure, it really switches to you.
00:03:04Another interesting exchange that you heard after that game,
00:03:08Michael Porter Jr. struggled, okay?
00:03:11He was one out of four.
00:03:13He hit an open three at the beginning of the game and didn't score again after that.
00:03:21His engagement in the game was questioned, and Nikola Jokic had this.
00:03:27Nikola, I know it's hard in-game, and when you have a guy that's not engaged,
00:03:32Mike wasn't necessarily that engaged, do you go out of your way in between games
00:03:36just to remind, whether it's him or anyone else, to stay engaged?
00:03:39Do you have those conversations?
00:03:41I mean, if you're not going to be engaged right now,
00:03:43I think you're not supposed to play these sports.
00:03:45I think teams are preparing for him.
00:03:47You know, it's really hard when someone is preparing for you,
00:03:49but we definitely can find a couple more looks over this and that,
00:03:54but I think, like, if that happens, like, you need to sacrifice.
00:03:58Like, I think that the goal is to win a game.
00:04:00You know, it's not about the minutes and about the shots, I think,
00:04:03and you need to support your team.
00:04:07Shaq, I found that interesting, and the fact that Nikola says,
00:04:14look, when teams are preparing for you,
00:04:16makes it a different kind of a feel out there,
00:04:20and having Kawhi Leonard in your mug a lot of the day is going to do that, too.
00:04:25I mean, yes, you know, the joker is a joker.
00:04:27He makes a great point, but, you know, when you're a shooter,
00:04:30you need to be ready.
00:04:31You know, I always go back to my first time at the finals.
00:04:35You know, our game plan was to double Akeem
00:04:37and, you know, leave everybody else open.
00:04:39Kenny is a shooter, and he was ready.
00:04:41He hit seven threes.
00:04:42It don't matter who he had.
00:04:43I wasn't open on all of them.
00:04:44I created a couple of them, too.
00:04:46You know, he needs to mix it up.
00:04:49He needs to mix it up, play his game.
00:04:51You know, if he shoots it a couple times and doesn't go in,
00:04:53go to the hole, get fouled, go to the free throw line,
00:04:56get that rhythm back.
00:04:57He's a shooter.
00:04:57But the good thing about him, this game is over.
00:04:59We won the game.
00:05:01Now you've got to regain your focus and just knock the shot down.
00:05:03You can't underestimate, you know, we talk about Kawhi Leonard.
00:05:07You can't underestimate Batun,
00:05:10and you can't underestimate Simmons, their defensive ability.
00:05:13He just missed shots.
00:05:14I mean, those guys are defenders, though.
00:05:17So he has to do something different for himself other than just looking for spot-ups.
00:05:25First of all, man, if you don't like the Joker, there's something wrong with you.
00:05:29I love that dude.
00:05:30If you don't like the Joker, there's something wrong with you as a person.
00:05:33But Michael Porter Jr. has to understand there's other things.
00:05:38When we talk about guys who, first of all, everybody in the NBA can play.
00:05:42When we talk about all-stars and superstars,
00:05:45it's guys who can help their team multiple, multiple ways.
00:05:49Okay, you're not scoring.
00:05:51You can get some more rebounds, play some defense.
00:05:53You just can't say, if I don't get shots or I'm not making shots,
00:05:57I'm just going to suck around.
00:05:59I mean, you've got to do other things to help your team.
00:06:02Yeah, but I need him to hit those shots.
00:06:04Okay, so if he's missing shots, you've still got to do other stuff.
00:06:07I understand, but you're a shooter.
00:06:09You're in there to be a shooter.
00:06:10The hardest thing in basketball is making shots.
00:06:12Get a shot, Devin George.
00:06:13I'm going to knock you out.
00:06:14And David Adelman, one of the things he said that I think was key in this whole thing
00:06:18was engaged on the defensive end.
00:06:21He said if he's going to knock down shots and be engaged on the defensive end,
00:06:24you're going to see him in there.
00:06:25That will help him, too, Ernie.
00:06:26If he do other stuff, that other stuff will come.
00:06:29We'll see what game two holds.
00:06:31Meantime, the playoffs are the perfect time to join FanDuel, America's number one sportsbook.
00:06:37Because right now, new FanDuel customers get started with $250 in bonus bets
00:06:43if your first $5 bet wins.
00:06:46Just scan the QR code to join today.
00:06:50You came close again the other night, Shuckster.
00:06:52I'll tell you who came close.
00:06:54Those people who bet on the Vegas Knights last night.
00:06:56And that damn, that was a bad beat, Scott Van Pelt.
00:06:59That was a really bad beat.
00:07:00Scoring with one second to go.
00:07:02Okay.
00:07:02So this is me tonight.
00:07:03I got Kawhi going to get me 25.
00:07:06James going to get me three threes.
00:07:08The Joker going to get me 25.
00:07:10Jamal Murray going to get me 15.
00:07:12What do you think, Ken?
00:07:13I don't have my button.
00:07:15You can say it.
00:07:16No, Kenny, just say you agree with me.
00:07:18I do not agree with you.
00:07:19Well, who's going to –
00:07:20I think James Harden will score a lot of points, but not just all three threes.
00:07:24I think that's the one.
00:07:25Well, I didn't even just get me – I just need three threes, brother.
00:07:29You don't need him.
00:07:29Guaranteed.
00:07:30Oh, it's guaranteed.
00:07:31Guaranteed.
00:07:32Guaranteed.
00:07:33Looking back at Harden.
00:07:35Yeah, he was four for nine from three in game one.
00:07:39I think that's the one.
00:07:41En route to the 32-point 11-assist night.
00:07:46No, you didn't have my button here.
00:07:48Oh, my God.
00:07:49That's your belly button.
00:07:50Y'all can't four ping-pong balls again tonight.
00:07:52Straight ahead, we've got game two at the Garden.
00:07:56There's Cade Cunningham.
00:07:58There's Jalen Brunson.
00:07:59We got the Fistons.
00:08:00We got the Knicks.
00:08:01Iron Eagle, Grant Hill, Stephanie Reddy have it covered.
00:08:05Stay ready.
00:08:07Stay ready.
00:08:09Interesting matchups of the first round.
00:08:11The Pistons and the Knicks.
00:08:13There's never a doubt that we're going to lay down and not fight.
00:08:16Gets inside.
00:08:17The floater's up.
00:08:18A good shot from Brunson.
00:08:19He's a catalyst.
00:08:20He gets in there and makes things happen.
00:08:22I don't know if they're the bad boys, but they're playing really hard right now.
00:08:25We were the better team for three quarters.
00:08:27It's hard to win in the playoffs because people are laying it all out there.
00:08:30I'm excited for the series to keep going.
00:08:32I'm ready for game two.
00:08:33It's playoff time in New York City.
00:08:39MSG was electric in game one of this series.
00:08:43Jalen Brunson and the Knicks went on a 21-0 run in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
00:08:49Cade Cunningham and the Pistons looking to bounce back here in game two.
00:08:53First round coverage on TNT is presented by NerdWallet.
00:08:59It's the Pistons and Knicks with New York up one game to none in this best of seven series.
00:09:05Eastern Conference playoff picture, Cleveland, Indiana, Boston, all with the upper hand as
00:09:12these series get ready for game twos across the board.
00:09:16We welcome you courtside.
00:09:17Hi, everybody.
00:09:18Ian Eagle, Grant Hill, along with Stephanie Reddy.
00:09:21Game one, highly competitive, fun, entertaining game through three quarters.
00:09:25Pistons were doing everything they wanted to do, but then the Knicks flipped the switch in the fourth.
00:09:30They did flip the switch there, and a great performance from their leaders, their all-stars.
00:09:34Of course, Jalen Brunson was magnificent.
00:09:37Started the game, struggled a bit in the first half, came on big in the second half.
00:09:41And, of course, his running mate, Carl Anthony Towns, on the interior, knocking down a three here and there.
00:09:47Those two were big along with others.
00:09:49And on the other side, for Detroit, to get this one here, Cade Cunningham, the all-star.
00:09:56Fantastic season.
00:09:57Had his way against the Knicks in the regular season.
00:09:59It's got to be aggressive, efficient, and must value the basketball here in game two.
00:10:04Check out our starting lineups.
00:10:06It's presented by Kia for Detroit, Cunningham, Hardaway, Thompson, Harris, and Duren.
00:10:13They do not have the services of Isaiah Stewart off the bench.
00:10:16He's dealing with inflammation in his right knee.
00:10:18That's a big hit.
00:10:19Brunson, Hart, Bridges, Ananobi, and Towns for the New York Knicks.
00:10:25Pistons, one of the best turnarounds that we have seen from one season to the next.
00:10:35Finished with the sixth-best record in the Eastern Conference at 44-38.
00:10:40Won the season series against the Knicks, which means absolutely nothing right now.
00:10:45And welcome to the postseason.
00:10:46But you're right.
00:10:46They bounced back from last year.
00:10:48Can they bounce back here in game two?
00:10:51Meanwhile, the Knicks won 51 games this season.
00:10:55First time they've gone back-to-back 50 wins since 91-95 when they did it four straight seasons.
00:11:03Josh Tivin, Curtis Blair, Ray Acosta, our officiating crew.
00:11:08Tivin will put the ball in the air.
00:11:10Towns will jump it up with Duren.
00:11:12We're underway in game two at Madison Square Garden.
00:11:16Knicks control the tip.
00:11:17They shot 53% in game one.
00:11:24They scored 40 points in the fourth.
00:11:26Back door.
00:11:27Brunson on a kick.
00:11:29Towns give it up.
00:11:30Bridges.
00:11:32Off the drive.
00:11:33Diagonal.
00:11:33Brunson.
00:11:34Little body bump with Thompson.
00:11:36Brunson lines it up.
00:11:37And it's off the heel.
00:11:39In a great defensive position.
00:11:41Multiple efforts switching.
00:11:42Detroit coming out aggressive on that end, I am.
00:11:45Looking for their first playoff win since 2008.
00:11:48Hardaway can't finish it during the offensive rebound.
00:11:52Major slam for Duren.
00:11:54He just brought the hammer.
00:11:57Yes, he did.
00:11:57So important to this team, especially with Stewart out.
00:12:01Duren's got to be effective and stay in the game, not get fouls like he did in game one.
00:12:05Foul trouble from Duren.
00:12:08The Cunningham-Duren combo has been so impressive this season.
00:12:12Adanobi lets it fly.
00:12:14Grazes the rim.
00:12:16And it's rebounded by Hardaway.
00:12:20First playoff appearance for the Pistons since 2019.
00:12:24They were swept by Milwaukee that year.
00:12:25In fact, they've lost 15 straight playoff games.
00:12:29That's an NBA record.
00:12:30Cunningham.
00:12:31Backs in.
00:12:32Flipped it with a left hand.
00:12:33No.
00:12:33Tipped home.
00:12:34Thompson can get off the floor in a hurry.
00:12:37Yeah, and Thompson's activity.
00:12:39Crashing to glass.
00:12:40Back cuts.
00:12:41And, of course, the task of harassing Brunson.
00:12:44Very important for the Pistons.
00:12:46Knicks are 11-5 at home in the playoffs under Tom Thibodeau.
00:12:50Inside.
00:12:51And Adanobi finishes.
00:12:55So the Knicks are on the board.
00:12:57Team that finished with the fifth-best offensive rating in the NBA this season.
00:13:03Duren way outside.
00:13:07Hand off.
00:13:08Cunningham.
00:13:08He tried to feed it to Duren.
00:13:10And Brunson steps in front for the steal.
00:13:13Brunson.
00:13:13Shovel.
00:13:14Bridges.
00:13:14Fires.
00:13:15No good.
00:13:17Weak side rebound for Asar Thompson.
00:13:21Tobias Harris could not crank it down.
00:13:26Bridges ahead.
00:13:27Five on four.
00:13:28And Adanobi.
00:13:30Off.
00:13:31Tipping goes.
00:13:32Bridges crashing the glass.
00:13:34And you have to be impressed.
00:13:35New York, the pace here early.
00:13:37Pushing the ball before that defense can get set from Detroit.
00:13:41Tied at four.
00:13:449.26 to go in this opening quarter.
00:13:46Thompson gets a touch.
00:13:50Pull up.
00:13:51Up.
00:13:51Ribs out.
00:13:53Carl Anthony Towns.
00:13:55The rebound.
00:13:56His rebounding numbers from last year to this year.
00:13:58Quite a difference as a foul is called out front.
00:14:02Thompson takes the hit.
00:14:04Against Brunson.
00:14:04And staying on the glass, inside, on the interior, Jalen Duren getting involved early.
00:14:12And I like this.
00:14:12Cunningham being aggressive, getting to the paint where he operates, unable to convert.
00:14:16But you love the activity on the offensive glass from Thompson.
00:14:20So Thompson picks up the personal foul.
00:14:22Jalen Brunson finished with 34 points, eight assists in game one.
00:14:28Got off to a slow start.
00:14:30Brunson, back in, picks up his dribble.
00:14:33That ball deflected by Harris, but Towns secures it.
00:14:37Towns, nobody there.
00:14:39Big finish on the cat attack.
00:14:42Six-four.
00:14:48Knicks, Cunningham, contact from Bridges.
00:14:53And I, in that last play, right here, a little dribble, fake dribble handoff.
00:14:57You have to communicate and switch.
00:14:59A little bit of a mishap defensively, and Carl Anthony Towns with the Smitty getting baseline.
00:15:05Okay, a half Smitty.
00:15:06Half Smitty.
00:15:07That does exist.
00:15:09It does exist.
00:15:09It's not quite the full Smitty.
00:15:12But he still gets the mention.
00:15:13Hey, still effective.
00:15:15Any chance to talk about my guy, Steve Smith?
00:15:18Duran powers his way in.
00:15:20Bodied up, it doesn't matter.
00:15:22Towns couldn't stop Duran on the interior.
00:15:26And I like Duran being aggressive here.
00:15:28Put so much pressure on the rim for Detroit.
00:15:32Obviously, him being aggressive early is a must.
00:15:35Brunson picked up by the versatile defender, Thompson.
00:15:38Brunson, fake kick, nobody home.
00:15:40He just tossed it into the front row.
00:15:43JB Bickerstaff in year number one as the head coach of the Pistons.
00:15:47When we spoke with him about game one, he said, look, a lot of positives, and I focused on a lot of those positives with my team.
00:15:54Well, when you have nine guys who are making their postseason first-time appearance, you've got to balance the accountability, the opportunity to learn, but also the very good things they did.
00:16:05They just didn't do it for the complete 48 minutes.
00:16:07Dix outscored the Pistons, 62-46 in the paint in game one.
00:16:11Turnover Detroit.
00:16:13JB Bickerstaff giving his opinion to Josh Tiven.
00:16:16And it's going to be Thompson picking up his second personal.
00:16:22And that's important.
00:16:23Thompson early.
00:16:25Two fouls having to guard Brunson.
00:16:27Unless they gave it to Hardaway.
00:16:29And it appears that they did.
00:16:31Thompson remains on the floor.
00:16:33Brunson got thrown off his balance.
00:16:35He's using the town screen.
00:16:37Down goes Thompson.
00:16:39And the bucket goes for Brunson.
00:16:41The Knicks take a two-point lead.
00:16:487.40 to play in this opening quarter.
00:16:52Switch.
00:16:53Bridges now.
00:16:54Screened by Duren.
00:16:56Cunningham trying to create on his own.
00:16:58And missed the fadeaway.
00:16:59Good box out there by Hart.
00:17:01One of the best rebounding guards in the NBA.
00:17:04Not going coast to coast.
00:17:06Ball was tipped up in the air.
00:17:07And Harris swipes it out of bounds on the sideline.
00:17:12So the Knicks will retain.
00:17:14And almost a turnover there.
00:17:16Josh Hart at times can be a one-man fast break.
00:17:20Great deflection there by Harris.
00:17:22But out of bounds.
00:17:23But once again, New York pushing the ball.
00:17:26Getting the ball up and down the court
00:17:28before that Pistons defense can get set.
00:17:30Tobias Harris, 14-year veteran.
00:17:32Two deflections early here for Detroit.
00:17:37Towns hits the cutter.
00:17:40And Hart rejected by Duren.
00:17:42A lot of contact there, too.
00:17:45Cunningham shifting gears.
00:17:47Extra feed.
00:17:48Harris lines it up.
00:17:49Bottom.
00:17:49It's a three.
00:17:50And I am so much attention on Cade Cunningham
00:17:53when he gets into the paint.
00:17:54Those open opportunities will be there.
00:17:57Great decision and great shot and finish.
00:17:59And the Pistons go in front by one.
00:18:01Fast-moving opening quarter.
00:18:02Brunson pull up high off the window.
00:18:06The kiss from Jalen Brunson.
00:18:08His change of pace.
00:18:10Elite.
00:18:13Knicks back in front by one.
00:18:18Cunningham switch.
00:18:19Now it's Bridges.
00:18:20He saw Bridges and Ananobi at different times in game one.
00:18:24Cunningham loses the ball because Bridges was there defensively.
00:18:27Digs it out and saves it.
00:18:29Shot clock winding down.
00:18:30Hardaway missed it from the corner.
00:18:32The former Knick could not convert.
00:18:36Towns handling it.
00:18:37One-on-one with Duren.
00:18:38Runs into a wall but hits the floater.
00:18:42Excuse me, Carl Anthony Towns.
00:18:45And it's been that kind of season for Carl Anthony Towns here in New York,
00:18:50doing everything right.
00:18:51And obviously, you know his three-point shooting.
00:18:53But I've been impressed, though, his driving this season as a center,
00:18:57being aggressive, thought he got fouled, but still delivering.
00:19:01A delay of game violation.
00:19:04Warning for the Knicks.
00:19:0712-9, New York.
00:19:08Thompson.
00:19:10Oh, wow.
00:19:11Thompson backing his way to the rim.
00:19:14Everybody in this arena wanted to travel.
00:19:16Except the Pistons bench.
00:19:1912-11, New York.
00:19:23Brunson beats his man off the dribble.
00:19:25Feeds it.
00:19:25Cornered.
00:19:26And a no-B.
00:19:27No good.
00:19:28The box out by Duren.
00:19:29Triggers the break.
00:19:31Into the hands of Cunningham.
00:19:33Cunningham crosses and scores.
00:19:35He is tough to cover.
00:19:37One-on-one.
00:19:386-6.
00:19:382-20.
00:19:39Gliding to the rim.
00:19:40And that's where he does so much of his damage in the paint.
00:19:43But I liked pushing the tempo, getting the Knicks on their heels defensively and making them pay.
00:19:50Carl Anthony Towns likes the matchup with Harris.
00:19:52Spin.
00:19:53Deuce.
00:19:55Right there, the mismatch in size.
00:19:58Harris has been good this season defending in the post.
00:20:01But Carl Anthony Towns has made them pay here in this series.
00:20:04He is 3-of-3 to open play.
00:20:06Pull-up jump.
00:20:07It bounces through for Cade Cunningham.
00:20:10The feathery touch.
00:20:1315-14 Detroit.
00:20:15Everything that we expected it to be.
00:20:19Here in this opening quarter.
00:20:20To the rim.
00:20:21Bridges with the adjustment.
00:20:23The Villanova connection.
00:20:26And somewhere, Jay Wright is smiling right there.
00:20:30Beautiful cut and pass.
00:20:32And look at this.
00:20:33Cat showing off the touch.
00:20:36We've got a battle here in the Garden.
00:20:392025 NBA Playoffs presented by Google.
00:20:43T is presented by NerdWallet.
00:20:46First quarter action here at the Garden.
00:20:48Let's bring in the third member of our crew.
00:20:50Stephanie Reddy.
00:20:51Hey there.
00:20:52Thanks so much.
00:20:52Listen, there's been a lot of talk about this game and how can Detroit learn from that first game.
00:20:57Well, I spoke with Cade Cunningham this morning and I asked him about the level of intensity.
00:21:01The level of physicality because it is the playoffs.
00:21:04He said, yes, it was intense.
00:21:05It was physical.
00:21:06But he told me he thought it was the most fun basketball that he's ever played.
00:21:11It was so much fun that he's so much looking forward to tonight.
00:21:15He understands that the crowd is going to get behind the Knicks.
00:21:17But he feels very confident in their ability to tweak things just a bit.
00:21:21And we've already seen that happen, guys.
00:21:23And Stephanie, they bring in experience.
00:21:25But Paul Reed just missed on the layup.
00:21:29Bridges pops.
00:21:31Long rebound.
00:21:32Track down by Harris.
00:21:33Beasley is in along with Schroeder.
00:21:36And the pocket pick.
00:21:37Bridges the skimmer.
00:21:38But it's too far for Brunson.
00:21:40Out of bounds.
00:21:41And a lot happening right there on that possession.
00:21:45But right away, early on, the establishing the paint, as you see Tom Thibodeau here, a little unhappy with that turnover.
00:21:53But both teams of the 31-point score, 24, have been in the paint.
00:21:59And that's not a surprise.
00:22:00With the aggressive defense and the physicality, getting to the rim is a must.
00:22:05Cunningham one-on-one without a no-be.
00:22:07The fade.
00:22:07You can't stop it.
00:22:08Cade Cunningham drains it from the baseline.
00:22:15And both teams are shooting 53%.
00:22:18They're 8 of 15 from the field.
00:22:2117-16 Detroit.
00:22:25Mitchell Robinson is in for the Knicks.
00:22:28Hart.
00:22:29The fade.
00:22:30No good.
00:22:31Uncontested rebound for Cunningham.
00:22:33We're down to 3.35 to play in this opening quarter.
00:22:36Schroeder.
00:22:38Off the rim.
00:22:40Rebounded by Brunson.
00:22:43Push up the floor.
00:22:44Brunson looking for the angle.
00:22:45Shows it.
00:22:46Kicks it.
00:22:49Plenty of time on the shot clock.
00:22:51Hart matched up with Schroeder using the screen.
00:22:53Picked up by Harris.
00:22:55Timer is down to 7.
00:22:58And a no-be makes his move.
00:22:59That's a tough shot.
00:23:00And Schroeder is there for the board.
00:23:03Triggers it.
00:23:04Cunningham race to the rim.
00:23:05He finishes with the offhand.
00:23:08Cade Cunningham is going off in this first quarter.
00:23:11He's got 8.
00:23:12And I like how he's taking advantage in transition.
00:23:15The strength to finish there.
00:23:17Cade Cunningham aggressive early.
00:23:19Pressure on Brunson.
00:23:22He handles it.
00:23:23He drives in on Schroeder.
00:23:24Uses that muscle.
00:23:26In and out.
00:23:27It was halfway down.
00:23:28That's saved by Cunningham.
00:23:29Pistons lead by 3.
00:23:33Cunningham on the move.
00:23:35Slick pass.
00:23:36Reed couldn't catch it.
00:23:38Turnover.
00:23:39Brunson.
00:23:40No look.
00:23:40Bridges is there for the flush.
00:23:43Once again, a turnover leading to an easy basket in transition.
00:23:48New York making them pay.
00:23:50And the Knicks cut it to 1.
00:23:53We approach 2 minutes to go in this opening quarter.
00:23:56Harris on an island with Hart.
00:24:00Using his size, the turnaround is pure.
00:24:03And we saw that there in game 1.
00:24:05Harris went off, had 25 points, 22 of them in the first half,
00:24:10and loves to post up and live in the midrange.
00:24:14Cunningham finished with 21 points, 12 assists,
00:24:17but he had 6 turnovers.
00:24:18Didn't shoot it particularly well.
00:24:208 of 21.
00:24:22Squeezing through 2 defenders.
00:24:23What a find.
00:24:24Brunson to Bridges, but he misses on the 3 ball.
00:24:27Cunningham taking up a lot of real estate and a blocking foul on Brunson.
00:24:35And Brunson, one of the best at taking charges.
00:24:38Unable there, but Cunningham in transition before the defense can get set,
00:24:43uses the strength and the touch to finish.
00:24:45And Brunson with the beautiful pass, elite play, first quarter in New York.
00:24:54Hey, Charles.
00:24:55Hey, don't forget to download the FanDuel Sports app.
00:24:58You're home for live, same-game parlays, and all throughout the playoffs.
00:25:02That's right.
00:25:03Hey, Chuck, GPT, who you got winning it all this year?
00:25:05Well, there are a lot of good teams this year,
00:25:08but that young Thunder squad is making waves,
00:25:10and the Celtics always bring that grit.
00:25:13It's shaping up to be a showdown.
00:25:15Man, you better grab your popcorn.
00:25:17I couldn't have said that any better myself.
00:25:19Yeah, right.
00:25:20You sure couldn't have said it better.
00:25:22That wasn't Charles, America.
00:25:24Yo.
00:25:25The Chuck GPT is very likable, by the way.
00:25:29Very, very affable.
00:25:31Let's get you caught up here.
00:25:32During the timeout, Tom Thibodeau challenged the call on the floor
00:25:36and won the challenge.
00:25:39He was checking with the back of the bench,
00:25:42the assistant coaches who looked at it and then got word,
00:25:46and they had already hit the timeout,
00:25:47but they were granted the challenge.
00:25:49So the foul was called on Cunningham, an offensive foul.
00:25:52Foul was taken away from Brunson.
00:25:55Changes now with Cam Payne in the game for New York.
00:25:59What an impact he had in game one.
00:26:01Payne finished with 14 points in 14 minutes.
00:26:05And a change for Detroit.
00:26:07Ron Holland, the rookie who played with G League Ignite,
00:26:11now in for the Pistons.
00:26:13Also, Deuce McBride for the Knicks.
00:26:16Holland trying to defend Bridges.
00:26:18Kick it.
00:26:19McBride.
00:26:20His jump shot.
00:26:22Too strong.
00:26:23We are under a minute to play now in the first.
00:26:27Running the floor.
00:26:28Duren is fouled by Payne.
00:26:31And Duren getting out in transition.
00:26:34But look right here, Ian.
00:26:35Three guys on Cade Cunningham.
00:26:37Every time he gets to the paint,
00:26:39the Knicks are sending bodies at Cade Cunningham.
00:26:42So he's going to have to maybe make a better read in those situations.
00:26:46Find open players.
00:26:47But obviously New York not letting him get an easy look at the rim.
00:26:52And that is two fouls now on Cam Payne.
00:26:55He was called for an offensive foul.
00:26:57And now this one on the defensive end.
00:26:58The NBA on TNT is brought to you by the Kia Telluride X-Line.
00:27:03Kia, the official automotive partner of the NBA.
00:27:07Another free throw here for Duren.
00:27:09He shot it at 67% during the regular season in his third year now in the NBA.
00:27:15And has a chance to be a force at this level.
00:27:18He's 21 years old.
00:27:19Impressive young player.
00:27:21Actually almost 80% from the free throw line.
00:27:2379% last season.
00:27:25Took a little dive this year.
00:27:28But I love this young man's game.
00:27:29And Detroit now leads by five.
00:27:31They led game one by as many as nine.
00:27:33And Shamit tossed it away.
00:27:36He thought his teammate was going to be in the area.
00:27:38But was wrong.
00:27:41Turnover, New York.
00:27:43They had 11 of them in game one.
00:27:46Pistons turned it over 21 times on Saturday night.
00:27:50Shamit poke away.
00:27:52Beasley to Duren.
00:27:57Cunningham.
00:27:58No.
00:27:58Popped him in the air.
00:27:59And Duren couldn't get it to go.
00:28:01It's grabbed by Robinson.
00:28:04Six-second difference.
00:28:05Shot clock, the game clock.
00:28:06Perky-jerky move from Payne.
00:28:08Knocked away by Schroeder.
00:28:09Hot potato.
00:28:10Out of bounds.
00:28:11And the Knicks will retain.
00:28:12And you see the difference when Brunson and Carl Anthony Towns go to the bench.
00:28:16The offense right now, not efficient.
00:28:19A few turnovers, not good possessions for New York.
00:28:23And certainly trying to buy time with their two All-Stars on the bench.
00:28:27Oh, it looks like now Towns checking in.
00:28:29Three or four possessions, not very smooth for Tom Thibodeau and his Knicks.
00:28:35So Towns in the game.
00:28:38He is going to replace Ananobi.
00:28:40Cade Cunningham gets his first rest with 20 seconds to play in this opening quarter.
00:28:44And Tobias Harris will check in as J.B. Bickerstaff is looking to match up here.
00:28:53And he's going to replace Beasley.
00:28:57Pistons go a little bigger.
00:29:02With Towns now in there.
00:29:05Payne.
00:29:06Get it in.
00:29:07Robinson.
00:29:0910 to shoot.
00:29:10Payne loses his footing.
00:29:11Nearly lost the ball.
00:29:13Trying to save it.
00:29:13He rolls it to McBride.
00:29:15The jump shot doesn't go.
00:29:17Robinson, offensive rebound.
00:29:19Knicks can hold for one.
00:29:21Out of bounds.
00:29:22Off of New York with 5.7 to go.
00:29:25And almost a shot there made by McBride.
00:29:27But just sloppy execution for the Knicks.
00:29:30Almost a turnover.
00:29:33Got a shot attempt and offensive rebound.
00:29:36But once again, turned the ball over.
00:29:38And not the ending of a quarter offensively that Tibbs wanted from his group.
00:29:44So, 5 turnovers on each side.
00:29:52The Knicks are 0 of 8 from 3-point range.
00:29:54Cunningham is in.
00:29:56Schroeder ends up on the floor.
00:29:58And a foul is called with 1.9 on the clock.
00:30:01And he kind of flew to half court.
00:30:04I'm not sure what happened there.
00:30:05And if it's Payne, it's number 3.
00:30:07Yeah, it looked like he was trying to set a screen.
00:30:09Maybe tripped over Ananobi there.
00:30:11Could not tell from that angle.
00:30:13Although he was pushed in the back.
00:30:15By Payne.
00:30:17And they're going to give the foul to Ananobi.
00:30:21Should have been on campaign, though.
00:30:25And it's going to send Schroeder to the free throw line.
00:30:28So, the Knicks had possession.
00:30:31Turned over with 5.7 to go.
00:30:33Here in the first.
00:30:34And now, Schroeder is at the strike.
00:30:37Are they changing this call?
00:30:39They are.
00:30:39They are.
00:30:40They have charged it to Payne.
00:30:47Number 3.
00:30:49The veteran Dennis Schroeder, 84% shooter, will get another.
00:30:57Playing on his third team this season.
00:31:00He originally started the year with the Nets.
00:31:03Was traded to Golden State.
00:31:06Now Detroit.
00:31:07And he has been a jolt of energy for them and experience.
00:31:12A great fit.
00:31:151.9 to go.
00:31:17Payne.
00:31:19The defense there from Holland.
00:31:21There's no call.
00:31:22And we end the first with the Pistons in front.
00:31:2625-18.
00:31:28Going to the second quarter here at Madison Square Garden.
00:31:31First-round coverage on TNT is presented by NerdWaller.
00:31:37Presented by Patron.
00:31:42Added a free tequila.
00:31:44Best turnaround in NBA history.
00:31:46Winning percentage increase.
00:31:48Celtics.
00:31:48Spurs.
00:31:49Twice.
00:31:50Suns.
00:31:51Celtics again.
00:31:52And the Pistons here in 24-25.
00:31:56During the timeout, Stephanie with Detroit head man J.B.
00:31:59Vickerstaff.
00:31:59Thank you so much.
00:32:01Coach, what are you happy with in this first quarter?
00:32:04Our defense for sure.
00:32:06I thought our defense was physical.
00:32:08It was disruptive.
00:32:09And then we did a great job on the boards.
00:32:11A couple breakdowns where we gave them some backdoor cuts and those types of things.
00:32:14But if our defense is good, it gives us an opportunity to get out and transition where we're at our best.
00:32:18As the game progresses, you don't want to have those breakdowns.
00:32:21We saw what happened in game one.
00:32:23How do you avoid that in tonight's game?
00:32:24Just the consistency in our mindset.
00:32:27Understanding quarter by quarter our urgency level has to rise to match their urgency level.
00:32:33But again, it's got to come down to us executing our stuff at a high level and we'll be good.
00:32:37Thanks for stopping, Coach.
00:32:38All right, Stephanie.
00:32:39Tobias Harris misses on the three ball after the Beasley miss, but the offensive rebound from Durant.
00:32:45And Detroit leads at 25-18.
00:32:47Ryan Vickerstaff talked about their defense with a great move there and tremendous footwork and finish by McBride.
00:32:55But in that first half, the Knicks miss seven of their last eight shots.
00:33:01Credit the good defense and credit as a goaltending call there, I think, on Towns.
00:33:06Joe Dennis-Schruder will get credit for it.
00:33:10This was the move for McBride, the step through for two.
00:33:14A la Jalen Brunson right there with the great footwork on the interior.
00:33:18Probably picked up some pointers along the way.
00:33:21I'm sure they played one-on-one before.
00:33:23Seven-point lead for the Pistons.
00:33:25Payne feeds the post and it's Towns.
00:33:27Schruder fakes on the double.
00:33:28One-on-one.
00:33:29Harris.
00:33:30Six to shoot.
00:33:32Spin.
00:33:33Fade.
00:33:34And Towns missed it.
00:33:35Robinson, the offensive board.
00:33:37Knicks reload now with Payne.
00:33:41Penetrates.
00:33:42Floats it up.
00:33:43Robinson tried to guide it through.
00:33:45And it rolls out.
00:33:48Pistons have Duren, Beasley, Schruder, Holland, and Harris.
00:33:52The Beasley jumper is silky smooth.
00:33:56Ten-point lead for the Pistons.
00:33:58Beasley, the fifth player with 300-plus threes in a season, joining Curry, Anthony Edwards, Harden, and Klay Thompson.
00:34:14Back in.
00:34:17Towns.
00:34:18Bully ball.
00:34:20That looked like the 90s mix right there.
00:34:23But you can't allow Towns four dribbles backing down against a smaller defender.
00:34:28The help for Detroit has to come from somewhere.
00:34:31Eight points now for Carl Anthony Towns.
00:34:33Pistons lead the Knicks by eight.
00:34:36Just over two minutes elapsed in this second quarter.
00:34:38High screen, Duren.
00:34:40Schroeder.
00:34:41His jump shot.
00:34:43Around and out.
00:34:44Controlled by New York.
00:34:45Brunson remains on the bench.
00:34:50Cunningham for Detroit on the bench as well.
00:34:53Towns.
00:34:54Foul is called before the shot.
00:34:57It will be against Tobias Harris.
00:35:00And now Brunson will take off the warm-up and check in.
00:35:02And Duren right here.
00:35:03A little thing right there, but a great screen.
00:35:06Jalen Duren and, of course, Isaiah Stewart out tonight with that injury.
00:35:11But great at setting screens.
00:35:12Well, look, five, six dribbles back down reminds me of the time when I played for the Pistons.
00:35:19And I'm trying to guard the late Anthony Mason who would back you down and abuse you there in the paint.
00:35:25You played for the Pistons?
00:35:26Many years ago.
00:35:27They wore teal back then.
00:35:28I'm going to Google it.
00:35:30Tippin doesn't go for Robinson, but a foul is called.
00:35:36And smart right there.
00:35:37Jalen Duren comes to help from the baseline as Tobias Harris trying to guard Karl-Anthony Towns.
00:35:45And Robinson slips in there and has a smaller defender able to draw a foul on that offensive rebound attempt.
00:35:51Ron Holland picks it up.
00:35:54Get it in for McBride.
00:35:55That was a non-shooting foul.
00:35:57It was off the rebound action.
00:35:58Brunson got him.
00:36:00It's a three.
00:36:01And I, and he didn't waste any time.
00:36:06Shot it at 38% from downtown this season.
00:36:10Cuts it to a five-point Detroit lead.
00:36:13Harris pushes head down and scores.
00:36:16Yeah, and initiating that contact, able to freeze Robinson a little bit.
00:36:20I like the aggressive play from Tobias Harris.
00:36:2332-25 Pistons.
00:36:26Harris now with seven points.
00:36:30Robinson faked the handoff to Brunson, handed to McBride.
00:36:34Gets the step on Schroeder.
00:36:36And missed it because Duren was there.
00:36:38Robinson feeds it.
00:36:40Brunson back-to-back.
00:36:43That's a trade.
00:36:44Ten points for Jalen Brunson.
00:36:51Schroeder, no hesitation.
00:36:53Got a three.
00:36:57Shot making on both sides.
00:36:59Pistons now in front, 35-28.
00:37:04Schroeder backs down to no one.
00:37:07Brunson short.
00:37:10Harris surveys.
00:37:12Ahead for Beasley.
00:37:13Holland now.
00:37:16And a foul is called on the push.
00:37:20You said it best.
00:37:21Guard play at the highest level.
00:37:23Robinson, I love his activity, but the awareness to find Jalen Brunson.
00:37:28Good things happen.
00:37:30You said it best.
00:37:31This little matchup between Schroeder and Brunson, they went at it a little bit there in that game one.
00:37:37Schroeder had some good moments.
00:37:38And as you said, unafraid.
00:37:42Jalen Brunson didn't waste much time coming back into the game, getting involved and getting going on the offensive end.
00:37:48The NBA on TNT is brought to you by New Balance.
00:37:53And by Fresh Pet.
00:37:58It's not dog food.
00:38:01It's food food.
00:38:02Robinson sits, six rebounds, and nine minutes of action.
00:38:06The Pistons make some changes with Cunningham back in along with Reed.
00:38:12Kate Cunningham, eight points, six boards, four assists.
00:38:16A very busy opening quarter.
00:38:17Beasley stays in there.
00:38:20Beasley drives, floats it up.
00:38:22No, but a foul on Bridges.
00:38:24Josh Hart back in for the Knicks.
00:38:28And I like that Beasley.
00:38:29No one has a catch-and-shoot.
00:38:31Guys, as you said, hit a high volume of threes there.
00:38:33But when he's guarded closely, not afraid to put the ball on the floor there, and he initiated that foul, drawing that, getting to the free-throw line.

00:38:57Another free throw here for Beasley, a career year for him on a one-year, $6 million deal.
00:39:02He's played with Denver, Minnesota, Utah, the Lakers, Milwaukee.
00:39:09Experienced, and the shooting numbers through the roof, 42% from three-point territory.
00:39:13And the shooting of Beasley, you bring in Hardaway Jr. as well as Tobias Harris.
00:39:17It really created spacing for Cade Cunningham to operate and have a stellar season.
00:39:23Fadeaway doesn't go for Brunson.
00:39:26And Detroit trying to bring this lead to double figures.
00:39:30Beasley can't hit the three.
00:39:33Reed helping out on the offensive glass.
00:39:35And right there, poor transition defense.
00:39:38Beasley wide open in the three.
00:39:40And then no one there to block out two guys for Detroit at the rim.
00:39:4539-28.
00:39:47This is the largest cushion of the night for Detroit.
00:39:51Towns takes it at Harris.
00:39:53Hooks a pass to the corner.
00:39:57It's Bridges.
00:39:58Book it.
00:39:59Good possession there, New York.
00:40:03Drive and kick action.
00:40:05Get that defense to shift for the easy two.
00:40:08Cunningham drains the long two-pointer.
00:40:13Pistons have had answers throughout this first half.
00:40:17Playing with a lot of poise.
00:40:20Body bump.
00:40:21Reed defending and takes it away from Brunson.
00:40:24It's a three-on-two developing, but Bridges steps in for the steal.
00:40:28Bounce it.
00:40:28And Anobi shovels.
00:40:30And Towns throws it down.
00:40:36Timeout, J.B. Bickerstaff.
00:40:39Pistons had a break and couldn't take advantage.
00:40:43The interception by Bridges leads to two on the other end.
00:40:47First half action continues from MSG.
00:40:50On hand here at the Garden, Paul Rudd, John McEnroe, and David Zasloff, CEO of Warner Brothers Discovery.
00:40:59David has continued the relationship with the NBA over the next decade, finding innovative ways to partner up,
00:41:07and also has added a bunch to the sports portfolio at TNT Sports, including John McEnroe working Roland Garros, NASCAR,
00:41:17Big 12, Big E's, college football playoff, you're going to be involved in some of that too, aren't you?
00:41:21I will next year.
00:41:23And, you know, it's interesting.
00:41:24You are the company you keep.
00:41:27Yeah.
00:41:27Mr. Zasloff is flanked by John McEnroe, Paul Rudd, two legends.
00:41:32And for a month, I was flanked by Iron Eagle and Bill Raftery.
00:41:35Oh, that's right.
00:41:36Yes.
00:41:36And so I got to do better.
00:41:38Wait.
00:41:39Whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:41:41You switched it up in the end.
00:41:42Oh, you know.
00:41:43I thought you had legends.
00:41:44No, I did.
00:41:45Two legends.
00:41:45It was an honor, honor and a thrill.
00:41:47Thompson on the inside.
00:41:51And a loose ball foul after the turnover.
00:41:55So some frustration from Detroit.
00:41:57They have kept their cool throughout this first half.
00:41:59It's just been really impressive how they've handled their business so far.
00:42:03I agree.
00:42:04I mean, to be a young team, to have been in control of that game,
00:42:07a fantastic third quarter.
00:42:09They scored 36 points in that quarter in game one.
00:42:12And then to implode in the fourth, how do they bounce back?
00:42:16Well, they've looked pretty good on both ends of the floor, minus that last turnover.
00:42:20They changed the Cunningham jump shot to a three.
00:42:22Checked it during the timeout.
00:42:23That's why Detroit now has the ten-point lead.
00:42:26It was initially called a long two.
00:42:27The block by Reed.
00:42:29Reed, he gums Towns on the perimeter, out of bounds.
00:42:32And a great closeout there against Towns, who doesn't need much space to get his three-point shot off.
00:42:38But I like the activity from Reed and filling in for Isaiah Stewart here, doing a good job.
00:42:44The Knicks are two of 12 from three-point territory.
00:42:51The jumper, Brunson, snaps it in.
00:42:54And he just makes the difficult look easy.
00:42:58A step-back contested three-pointer.
00:43:01Brunson, the only thing going right now offensively for New York.
00:43:05Cunningham taking it to the rim around Bridges for two.
00:43:09Thirteen now for Cade Cunningham.
00:43:14Ananobi, one-on-one.
00:43:16Oh, he pulled him a horn on him.
00:43:19Took the chair out from under him.
00:43:21Thompson saves it.
00:43:22Break opportunity.
00:43:24Reed bounces at Bridges.
00:43:26Steps in front of Beasley.
00:43:27Turnover.
00:43:28And then contact from Reed at midcourt against Brunson.
00:43:31And you've seen a few here of turnovers off of transition opportunities for Detroit.
00:43:37Just not able to capitalize there.
00:43:40Reed running the point.
00:43:42And it's keeping New York within distance.
00:43:45These unforced live ball turnovers by the Pistons.
00:43:50And I like the Rick Mahorn reference.
00:43:53Got to get one in, right?
00:43:54The ultimate bad boy.
00:43:55We know he's watching.
00:43:5844-35.
00:44:00Pistons in front.
00:44:01Nine turnovers for Detroit.
00:44:03Seven for New York.
00:44:05Reed now sits.
00:44:06Duran is back in.
00:44:09And Brunson just bounced it off his foot.
00:44:12Out of bounds.
00:44:13And Brunson has hit some shots.
00:44:14But a lot of isolation, one-on-one basketball.
00:44:18I think the Knicks at their best when they get ball moving and get that defense to shift.
00:44:23O.G. Ananobi had 23.7 rebounds in game one.
00:44:27Cunningham is fouled by Ananobi.
00:44:29He's been held to two points, one board here in game two.
00:44:34Meanwhile, Tobias Harris has been highly effective.
00:44:37Nine points and three rebounds for Detroit.
00:44:42Tobias picking up where he left off in that first half on Saturday.
00:44:47But really, the key here is Cunningham, six for nine from the field.
00:44:51He's one for one from the three-point line.
00:44:53He's just been aggressive.
00:44:55And as we said, gets a lot of points in the paint, able to use his size.
00:44:59And crafty, drawing that foul.
00:45:01Download the FanDuel Sportsbook app today.
00:45:03Make every playoff moment more on America's number one sportsbook.
00:45:07Towne sits, replaced by Robinson.
00:45:12We did see them together briefly in the first quarter.
00:45:15They did play alongside one another, effectively in game one.
00:45:21Cade Cunningham just doing his thing.
00:45:26Fifteen points.
00:45:29He's got seven boards.
00:45:34Forty-six, thirty-five.
00:45:36Pistons, the sixth seed, leading the three seed in the East here in game two.
00:45:41Brunson, slip there.
00:45:44Robinson, the bullet feed.
00:45:45Cunningham secures it.
00:45:49Picked up by Hart.
00:45:52Cunningham backs it out with 4.35 on the clock in this first half.
00:45:58Cunningham, the handles, off balance, short foul call.
00:46:03And there was some contact.
00:46:06A little bit of a late call or late whistle there by the officials.
00:46:10But I like how they spread 1-4 low.
00:46:13They like the mismatch of Cunningham on Hart.
00:46:18And Hart is in disbelief.
00:46:20But once again, with the shooting out there on the perimeter, Tobias Harris, Hardaway, you can flatten the floor and let Cunningham go to work.
00:46:27Second foul on OG Ananobi, the fourth team foul against the Knicks.
00:46:33Look at the upcoming NBA playoff schedule.
00:46:40NBA TV tomorrow night, 7 o'clock.
00:46:42The Bucs and the Pacers in game two.
00:46:45TNT tomorrow night.
00:46:46Grizzlies and Thunder.
00:46:47Timberwolves and Lakers.
00:46:49Game twos in those series.
00:46:51Go to NBA.com or visit the NBA app for more.
00:46:54Another one for Cunningham.
00:46:56He shot it at 85% at the line this season.
00:46:59They've extended the lead to 13.
00:47:01Detroit is 10 of 10 at the free throw line.
00:47:04The Knicks are yet to attempt a free throw in this first half.
00:47:09Right now, Knicks out of sync offensively.
00:47:11Really just bailed out by the great isolation player, Brunson.
00:47:14Two defenders on Brunson.
00:47:16Threads the needle.
00:47:17Ball gets tipped.
00:47:18Ananobi spins on Hardaway.
00:47:20And Ananobi!
00:47:22The man can finger roll.
00:47:23It's an 11-point lead for the Pistons.
00:47:32Harris has the size advantage on Brunson.
00:47:36Thompson flashes.
00:47:3710 to shoot.
00:47:38Thompson in and out.
00:47:40Long rebound.
00:47:41Knocked over to Ananobi.
00:47:42Ananobi makes his move.
00:47:44Forced to kick it out.
00:47:45Hard is there.
00:47:47And that one's intercepted by Harris.
00:47:50Bounces for Hardaway.
00:47:51Steps into the three.
00:47:52And it's off the mark.
00:47:54Rebounded by Harris.
00:47:55Extended possession.
00:47:57Cunningham.
00:47:58Euros.
00:47:59No call.
00:48:00Ananobi ahead for Bridges.
00:48:02Knicks are running.
00:48:03Three on two developing.
00:48:04If they hurry.
00:48:05And now Detroit gets back.
00:48:06Bullet feed.
00:48:07Corner Hard.
00:48:08He's got it.
00:48:09A three.
00:48:09And right there.
00:48:13A missed layup by Cunningham.
00:48:15And then a corner three by Josh Hart.
00:48:18A five-point swing.
00:48:20And Hart trying to bring some life and energy on the court for this Knicks team.
00:48:24Forty-eight to forty Detroit.
00:48:29Cunningham gives up his dribble.
00:48:32Under three minutes to play in the second quarter.
00:48:34Robinson harassing Durham.
00:48:36He's going to pick up the foul.
00:48:38And the Knicks are over the limit.
00:48:41Two fifty-five remaining.
00:48:42Tonight's officials are crew chief Josh Tiven, referee Curtis Blair, umpire Ray Acosta, alternate Scott Twardoski, the replay center official in Seacaucus, New Jersey, Scott Foster.
00:48:55They're among thirty-six officials selected to work the first round of the twenty-twenty-five playoffs.
00:48:59A group which has an average of over seventeen years of NBA experience includes nine officials who have worked one hundred or more playoff games.
00:49:08Pistons have an eight-point lead over the Knicks.
00:49:13We have two fifty-five to go in this first half.
00:49:15And speaking of the officials, a tough matchup to call.
00:49:19Both teams so physical, they play hard.
00:49:23And as you said earlier, these Pistons, you know, the key is being physical without being overly emotional.
00:49:30I thought they got a little emotional there in that fourth quarter Saturday in game one.
00:49:34But they have come out locked and focused and certainly sticking to their game plan early here in this first half.
00:49:42So the Pistons have not missed a free throw.
00:49:44Eleven of eleven.
00:49:45The Knicks have not attempted one.
00:49:47They have not gone an entire first half this season without a free throw attempt.
00:49:54Does that mean that the refs aren't making the call or they're not being aggressive, attacking, getting to the rim?
00:50:00I believe that's my question to you, not your question to me.
00:50:03Oh, I thought I'd beat you to it.
00:50:07Ten-point lead for Detroit.
00:50:10Brunson one-on-one with Schroeder.
00:50:12Drives it, floats it, scores it.
00:50:17Brunson right there, not settling, attacking so good off the balance.
00:50:22Great change of pace.
00:50:24Fifteen points for Jalen Brunson.
00:50:27He's back to an eight-point game.
00:50:29Duran out on the perimeter, trying to get rid of it.
00:50:35Cunningham using the Duran screen.
00:50:38Outside, Harris can't hit the jumper.
00:50:41Rebounded by Hart.
00:50:44Push up the floor.
00:50:46Leave it for Bridges.
00:50:48Under two minutes to go now in this first half.
00:50:50Bridges asking for it against the former Nick Hardaway.
00:50:52Isolation, turnaround, bounces down for Bridges.
00:51:00Talk about a friendly role right there.
00:51:04But I like the post-up.
00:51:05I like Bridges there using his length.
00:51:08Ten points for Mikkel Bridges.
00:51:12His former teammate in Brooklyn, Dennis Schroeder, now for Detroit.
00:51:17Great splash from the outside.
00:51:21Fifty-two-forty-four, Pistons.
00:51:24Bench scoring 14-2 in favor of the Pistons.
00:51:28Knew that was an advantage entering the series.
00:51:31Brunson missed it on the banker.
00:51:32He thought he was going to get a call.
00:51:35Get it ahead.
00:51:36Harris, one-on-one, Bridges.
00:51:39Cunningham lets it fly.
00:51:41Off the rim, and Anobi snatches it.
00:51:44And Anobi are letting them play a lot of contact on both ends.
00:51:49Under a minute to go.
00:51:50First half.
00:51:51Bridges connects for three.
00:51:5852-47.
00:52:01Pistons.
00:52:0245 seconds left.
00:52:03First half.
00:52:04Defense!
00:52:05Cunningham.
00:52:06Defense!
00:52:07One-on-one with Hart.
00:52:09Hart crowds him.
00:52:10Cunningham does feed it for Harris.
00:52:14Shot clock is winding down.
00:52:15Cunningham trying to make it happen.
00:52:17Stumble.
00:52:18Flip.
00:52:19Foul.
00:52:19With 1.3 on the 24.
00:52:24And the Knicks not happy there.
00:52:26But look at this elbow.
00:52:27Brunson or...
00:52:29A lot of contact there.
00:52:31Look like both guys kind of elbowed each other.
00:52:36And Brunson able to turn that corner.
00:52:38And Smart right here.
00:52:39Low clock.
00:52:40Just put your head down.
00:52:41And Cunningham getting to the paint.
00:52:44And it looked like he was tripped on that drive.
00:52:47And the trip was called against Hart.
00:52:50So before any contact with Anobi.
00:52:52And that's the first miss of the line for the Pistons.
00:52:58The chase for the cup continues Wednesday night, 10 p.m. Eastern.
00:53:02The Edmonton Oilers face the Los Angeles Kings on TBS and Max.
00:53:08And I tell you right now, the Knicks the last four minutes have been really solid.
00:53:13This thing could have, you know, gone the other way, gone south for them.
00:53:18But they've been out of sync this first half and still attached here with 31 seconds left.
00:53:24One out of two.
00:53:25One out of two.
00:53:27Brunson.
00:53:29Watch by Schroeder.
00:53:31Seven-second difference.
00:53:32Shot clock, the game clock.
00:53:33Winding down in this first half.
00:53:36Back in.
00:53:38Brunson.
00:53:40Contact.
00:53:41Schroeder.
00:53:41And that had been building the last three, four possessions between those two.
00:53:48The cat and mouse.
00:53:50The gamesmanship.
00:53:52And Brunson right there drawing a foul on Schroeder.
00:53:57And in that first game, Brunson drew 11 fouls.
00:54:01And there was a lot of complaints from Detroit that he was flopping and the antics and so on and so forth.
00:54:07But he had to work for that foul and that free throw attempt here.
00:54:14Until the Knicks get to the free throw line for the first time of this first half.
00:54:1917.4 on the clock.
00:54:23Brunson has put up 16 points.
00:54:26Bridges has scored 13.
00:54:28Towns has scored 10.
00:54:31High man for Detroit is Cunningham with 18.
00:54:34Second free throw for Brunson.
00:54:37Four-point game.
00:54:4415 seconds to play.
00:54:46Second quarter.
00:54:51Cunningham defended by Ananobi.
00:54:53Six seconds left.
00:54:54Cunningham.
00:54:55Head and shoulder fake.
00:54:56Drive.
00:54:57Fade.
00:54:57He's got it.
00:54:5820 points for Cunningham.
00:55:02Two seconds.
00:55:03One.
00:55:03Bridges half court.
00:55:05Off the front of the rim.
00:55:07And that is the end of the first half.
00:55:10The Pistons handling themselves quite well after the disappointing loss in game one and the frustrating fourth quarter.
00:55:23Detroit has got the lead over the New York Knicks in game two.
00:55:2655-49.
00:55:28We'll send it to Atlanta coming up.
00:55:29First-round coverage on TNT presented by NerdWallet.
00:55:37Make sure we're all talking.
00:55:38Boxers and elbows.
00:55:40Be active with your hands.
00:55:41Use your chest.
00:55:43Hold your ground.
00:55:44Hold your ground.
00:55:45More physicality.
00:55:47Hey, defensively, we've got to be great.
00:55:50Defensively, we've got to be great.
00:55:52Every rebound, every loose ball, let's come up with it.
00:55:54Let's run.
00:55:57Back at the Garden, let's check out our coaching adjustments presented by Progressive in that first half.
00:56:04Detroit turned it over nine times.
00:56:06That was actually down from game one in overall turnovers, but an issue in the first half.
00:56:14And New York struggling to defend Cade Cunningham.
00:56:17I and Eagle Grant Hill.
00:56:18Stephanie Redding.
00:56:19All right, give us both perspectives here, Grant.
00:56:21The Detroit perspective, New York perspective.
00:56:23Well, first of all, it's been a slugfest here.
00:56:25The officials letting them play.
00:56:27You know, I thought New York struggled there.
00:56:29A little out of sync offensively, but only down six.
00:56:32They've got to tighten up on the offensive end.
00:56:34And, of course, they cannot foul offensively against the Pistons.
00:56:39Pistons got to continue to get downhill, get to the free throw line, and feed Cade Cunningham.
00:56:46Cunningham, zero assists in that first half.
00:56:49You've got to expect that they'll try to double-team him.
00:56:51He must look for open shooters.
00:56:53Largest lead for Detroit was 13.
00:56:55Bronson was looking for a call, didn't get it.
00:56:57Ended up on his backside.
00:56:58Pistons are running.
00:57:00Cunningham flicks it for the Hardaway three.
00:57:03And Hart is there for the board.
00:57:08Get into it quickly.
00:57:10Loop it for Bridges.
00:57:14Carl Anthony Towns.
00:57:16He locked 14 minutes of action in that first half.
00:57:19Did score in double figures with 10.
00:57:21The back-in on Hardaway.
00:57:22And out of bounds off of Detroit.
00:57:26Six to shoot.
00:57:27Right there, the mismatch against Hardaway Jr., but great help by Durin.
00:57:32Looked like Towns just could not complete the pass to the open cutter.
00:57:37Knicks had 40 points in the fourth quarter.
00:57:43Game one, 49 first half here in game two.
00:57:46And that shot from Bronson is off the mark for three.
00:57:52Pistons lead by six.
00:57:53Cunningham stepped back.
00:57:54Jay is good.
00:57:56And I love his game.
00:57:58He just plays at an easy pace.
00:58:00Gets hit to his spots.
00:58:02Great confidence there in the mid-range.
00:58:04And makes it look easy at times.
00:58:07So the Pistons now lead at 57 to 49.
00:58:11A minute and a half gone by in this third quarter.
00:58:14Towns, the jumper, no good.
00:58:16Missed it from three-point territory.
00:58:21Harris rushes ahead.
00:58:23Met there by Bridges.
00:58:25Now they clear out the area.
00:58:29Cunningham watched by Ananobi.
00:58:30Screen Hardaway.
00:58:32Cunningham off the dribble.
00:58:33Ball floater, no.
00:58:35Tipped outside.
00:58:35Bridges has got it.
00:58:39Pull-up jump.
00:58:40Book it.
00:58:41A three.
00:58:42And Bridges, like Hart, they get the rebound.
00:58:45They always are looking to push.
00:58:48Push the ball.
00:58:48Be aggressive.
00:58:50And a timely three-pointer there by Bridges.
00:58:5216 now for Mikkel Bridges.
00:58:55Cunningham works his way inside.
00:58:57Stripped to the ball.
00:58:58Out of bounds off of New York.
00:58:59And I said, look, Cunningham is not looking to pass.
00:59:02He's looking to score every time.
00:59:04So when he puts the ball down, a great double team.
00:59:07Almost a turnover there by the help by Ananobi.
00:59:11Get it in.
00:59:14Bridges knock away.
00:59:15Now it's a race to the ball.
00:59:17Bridges ends up on the floor.
00:59:22Durin came over.
00:59:23And it's going this way.
00:59:29And how about the foot speed of Durin running there with Bridges.
00:59:33Bridges getting a deflection.
00:59:34But Durin is a big man running with him.
00:59:36And a little nudge there at the end for a good measure.
00:59:40And the first foul called on Durin.
00:59:449.39 mark of the third.
00:59:4757-52.
00:59:50Pistons.
00:59:52That would make Lambert proud.
00:59:53That little nudge.
00:59:54I mean, that was just par for the course, no?
00:59:57I agree.
00:59:58Bridges probing.
01:00:00Kick for Hart.
