Today, Rupert has to find a silver crown in Rupert and the Shoemaker's Son.
00:16
There's a little bear like you've never seen before, who's a lot of fun.
00:23
Children everywhere, though they love him more and more, he's the number one.
00:30
There's a million stories to be told, all the things that he's done.
00:36
And he's gonna share them all with you, so come along.
00:44
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone sing his name.
00:51
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone come and join.
00:56
Rupert, Rupert is helping Mrs. Bear with the cooking.
01:09
Mr. Bear is outside gardening.
01:11
Put the kettle on for some tea, will you, dear?
01:14
Mrs. Bear asks Rupert.
01:16
Daddy will be thirsty when he comes in.
01:19
Right, Mummy, says Rupert as he goes to the tap.
01:21
Oh, says Mr. Bear as he enters the kitchen.
01:26
It's very hot again today.
01:28
The ground is much too dry.
01:31
Mummy, there's no water in the tap, cries Rupert.
01:34
Oh, dear.
01:37
Well, it hasn't rained for weeks now.
01:39
There must be a drought.
01:41
What are we going to do, Daddy?
01:43
The only place there might be some water is in the old well at the other end of the village.
01:48
Rupert arrives at the well to see Edward Trunk, who's just got his bucket of water.
01:54
Hello, Rupert.
01:55
Isn't it hot?
01:57
Haven't you got any water at your house either?
02:00
No, replies Rupert, getting out of the chariot.
02:03
I wish it would rain.
02:06
Must go.
02:07
Mummy wants this water to do the washing.
02:10
Bye.
02:11
Edward leaves Rupert, who is already luring his bucket down the well.
02:15
What was that?
02:20
It sounded as if it came from down there, exclaims Rupert, puzzled.
02:25
He winds his bucket up.
02:27
It hasn't got any water in it, but a very large, cross frog.
02:34
What do you think you're doing?
02:36
I came for some water.
02:38
There's none anywhere else in Nutwood.
02:40
Well, you can't have any.
02:43
Oh, please.
02:44
Yes, wait.
02:45
You didn't let me finish.
02:47
You can't have any until you do something for me.
02:52
Oh, anything, replies Rupert.
02:55
Well, then, bring to me here a golden princess, who will place the silver crown on my head.
03:03
The golden princess?
03:05
But I don't know her.
03:07
Where does she live?
03:08
But when Rupert looks back, the frog has gone.
03:12
And there's still no water in the bucket.
03:15
Now what am I going to do?
03:17
Oh, Drizzle!
03:21
Yes, that's it!
03:23
Drizzle!
03:24
Hello, what is it?
03:25
I'm a bit busy, he replies, landing his hat beside Rupert.
03:29
Oh, please.
03:30
Can you take me to fairy tale land?
03:32
It's very important, he adds, hopefully.
03:35
Well, I'm supposed to be looking for rain clouds.
03:39
But there's as good a place as any.
03:40
Hop in quickly, then.
03:42
Thank you, replies Rupert gratefully as they take off.
03:45
We'll have to make it fast.
03:47
Hold on tight, cries Drizzle.
03:50
Fairy tale land is far away, where time is always a year and a day.
03:56
Princesses, princes, kings and queens, lions and giants, and the valley of dreams.
04:03
Right, down we go, says Drizzle.
04:07
And he lands them in fairy tale land.
04:11
Rupert climbs out of the hat, while Drizzle looks around.
04:16
No rain clouds here.
04:18
I'll call back for you later.
04:19
Can't stop.
04:20
And he's off again.
04:22
Rupert gazes about him.
04:24
It's a beautiful place, he declares.
04:27
But where do I find the golden princess?
04:32
Hello, who are you?
04:34
Asks a voice.
04:36
Rupert looks round and sees a boy.
04:37
I'm Rupert Bear, he replies.
04:41
And I'm looking for the golden princess.
04:42
Can you help me, please?
04:45
Oh, I'll tell you where you can find her, all right.
04:47
But that's all.
04:49
But what about the princess?
04:51
If you must go there, you take the sandy path through the feathery trees.
04:55
Rupert looks around.
04:58
Oh, he must mean over there, he says to himself.
05:04
Before long, Rupert sees the gates of the golden castle.
05:09
But the guard is very fierce, so he keeps out of sight.
05:12
He looks up at the tower, and there he sees a girl.
05:17
And she's wearing a silver crown.
05:19
She must be the princess.
05:22
Oh, dear.
05:24
He turns sadly away.
05:29
What's that?
05:30
Well, well, it's a little bear, cries the man in a turban.
05:35
I'm Rupert.
05:36
Who are you?
05:37
I'm the Sultan, and I'm just trying out my latest model of flying carpet.
05:42
Look, I can fly forwards.
05:45
And backwards.
05:48
And sideways.
05:50
And he lands again beside Rupert.
05:52
I expect the carpet would fly upside down as well, but I might fall off.
05:57
Hmm.
05:59
Well, you don't sound very interested in my carpet.
06:02
I might as well go, says the Sultan, taking off.
06:05
Oh, no, come back, shouts Rupert, who was only busy thinking.
06:09
He's had an idea.
06:11
You see, he starts as the Sultan lands once more.
06:15
I've got to rescue the golden princess from the tower up there.
06:18
And your carpet would be just the thing.
06:21
Ah, yes.
06:22
And it would be a good test to see if it can carry three people, too, he agrees.
06:27
Come on, then.
06:29
Rupert jumps on to the magic carpet.
06:30
I've got some sleeping powder here.
06:34
I'll just sprinkle some on that guard first.
06:36
I don't like the look of him.
06:39
And as they're passing over the gateway, he sprinkles the guard, who immediately falls asleep.
06:44
Here we are, says the Sultan.
06:50
Are you the golden princess, inquires Rupert.
06:54
Yes.
06:55
Come on, hurry up.
06:57
You can talk later.
06:59
Rupert helps the princess onto the carpet, and they fly off.
07:02
They land a little way from the castle.
07:07
This carpet could carry six people without any trouble, says the Sultan.
07:12
Rupert and the princess climb off, thankfully.
07:15
Must get back to Turkey now, before it gets dark.
07:18
Haven't fitted any lights yet.
07:20
Aye, and thank you, shouts Rupert gratefully, as they wave to the Sultan.
07:26
Ah, you found what you came for, then.
07:29
It's Drizzle back again.
07:30
Yes, can you take us back now, please?
07:33
It'll be a bit of a squash, three in a hat, but come on.
07:38
The princess and Rupert climb into the hat.
07:40
Back home to Nutwood, they're racing pell-mell.
07:43
First they fly this way, then they fly that.
07:47
Till there they are, landing right down by the well.
07:54
The frog isn't there, so Rupert calls down.
07:58
Mr. Frog!
08:00
I've brought you the golden princess.
08:03
Lower the bucket down the well, then.
08:05
How do you expect me to get up?
08:08
The frog shouts up impatiently.
08:10
Oh, sorry!
08:11
Rupert lowers the bucket.
08:13
But I don't want to meet a frog, says the princess in horror.
08:17
Too late.
08:18
He's there.
08:19
Oh, he's very ugly, she exclaims.
08:22
Put your silver crown on my head, then, he says to the princess.
08:28
She looks doubtfully at Rupert.
08:30
Oh, please do as he says, Rupert encourages.
08:32
She carries her crown to the frog, and places it on his head, standing back hurriedly.
08:39
There's no longer a frog, but a handsome prince, holding the princess's crown.
08:48
Oh, exclaims Rupert.
08:51
What's happened?
08:53
But the princess recognizes him.
08:57
Tarquin!
08:58
But why are you dressed like a prince?
09:00
You are the shoemaker's son.
09:02
Your father made the witch turn me into a frog.
09:06
But as a joke, she said if you were to put your silver crown on my head, I would not only change back, but become a prince as well.
09:14
I was so ugly, she didn't think you'd ever do that.
09:20
Rupert has been listening in amazement.
09:23
Well, your father won't mind you marrying a prince.
09:26
You'll be all right now, he tells the princess.
09:29
But how are we to get home?
09:32
Oh, come on.
09:33
If you hurry, I'll take you, offers Drizzle grudgingly.
09:37
The prince and princess are sorry to leave Rupert, but mustn't keep Drizzle waiting.
09:42
Goodbye.
09:43
Just lower your bucket now, and thanks, calls the prince as they gather speed.
09:49
Rupert had forgotten all about the water, but he lowers his bucket, and sure enough, it comes up full to the brim.
09:57
Mrs. Bear is looking out for Rupert as he flies in.
09:59
You have been a long time, Rupert.
10:03
Well, you see, I couldn't get the water until I found the golden princess.
10:07
Oh, Rupert, hurry up, cries Mrs. Bear impatiently.
10:11
Just as he's going inside, it starts to rain.
10:15
Drizzle must have found the rain cloud too, says Rupert happily.
10:19
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone sing his name.
10:38
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone come and join in all of his games.
11:00
Rupert.
11:01
Rupert.
11:02
Rupert.
11:03
Rupert.
