Aviation startup Archer unveils air taxi venture in New York
Aviation startup Archer unveils an air taxi venture with United Airlines to enable New York City travelers to reach area airports in 15 minutes or less. Archer brought a prototype version of its Midnight aircraft to the Big Apple to mark the announcement, with the exact timetable to commercial service to be determined by US air regulators who still must certify the vehicle.

00:00This aircraft is called Midnight. It's an electric aircraft that can take off and land vertically.
00:15So we're super excited to show it today in New York.
00:18So if you think about helicopters, they only have one water, there is a level of risk, you know, potentially.
00:24We're trying to minimize that risk by having multiple redundant systems.
00:29So we have about 12 props.
00:31All your body mass is touching the seat, you know, below.
00:34So you sit this way, which is really simple and organic.
00:38Basically, it's one pilot that goes first and then he's going to transit about 10 inches forward, leaving space for the rear passengers.
00:47I don't think anybody likes traffic. I don't think anybody is excited to go sit in a car for 90 minutes to travel 15 miles.
00:54And so this is a product that can enable, it's almost like a time machine.
00:58It can enable, you know, the ability to travel, you know, the same types of distances from Manhattan to the airports in five to 10 minutes versus the typical 90 minute types of drives.
01:07Extremely wealthy people use helicopters on a regular basis because it is so convenient.
01:11If helicopters were much more affordable and if they were, had very high safety standards, I think it would be a mass use product.
01:17But it's challenged because of some of those, some of those issues.
01:20So as we've solved a bunch of those issues with this new type of category with these electric aircraft, it does enable the ability to scale to reach this, you know, really kind of mass market product where people can start flying on a regular basis.
01:33Instead of what is today, people typically take helicopters maybe once in their lifetime, can maybe switch to maybe it's once a year, maybe it's once a quarter, maybe it's once a month.
01:40And so we'll start small because we really have to go out and prove to the communities, prove to the regulators, prove really to ourselves that we can scale this.
01:48But then the goal is to scale it to massive levels.
01:50And I think it's a it's a multi-year journey.
01:52You can think back to like this is the first time like a 737 is being introduced into the world.
01:58So that's the first 737 Boeing 100 was introduced in 1964.
02:02It took, you know, many years to really scale that out to what we know today.
02:05So that's really the same thing. This is a start of the new golden age of aviation.
02:09So as aviation is being upgraded, we're introducing a lot more software, a lot more autonomy into the systems to help increase safety levels.
02:17So as an example, this aircraft has envelope protection that will prevent you from stalling the aircraft or rolling the aircraft.
02:23And so there's new systems that get introduced by software that helps make the vehicles safer.
02:35so there's a lot more in the system and videos here along with lots of things to achieve some depth.
02:37UsingÙ†ice team boosts and sá»± before they are assessing to the aircraft bikes against the aircraft body,
02:38when they are using a rocket they have으니까quing to get a tecnologia back to what they are going to do.
02:39And so on more state groups need more StraUA on the back to set up the nothing機會 sometimes.
02:40I'd like to exceed 300 volts, essentially a of them in there,
02:40and so on that one bancMs hit a weight in the infrastructure car.
02:42Almost more or online.
02:43Also known as once as you know.
02:43But it's this mac Objectifense among other things that grew up a bit stronger than the people at the same time,
02:45And you can look at the heart催慎 because when they win it.
02:46All the head of the state sun get evolutions,
02:48That's great news, that's a different AUX.
