We spoke to Shaun Middleton after Newquay's victory on April 17

00:00We're here with Newquay boss Sean Middleton after tonight's title success which has seen Newquay

00:05promoted to the Western League for the first time in their history. Sean, a remarkable evening here

00:10at Mount Wise. Unbelievable. I said to the boys before the game, if you could write a story about

00:16our season so far with suspensions, injuries and all the other stuff that's going on, you'd read

00:23it and halfway through you'd go, who witnessed the guy who ripped Rocky VI or something because

00:28it was, we've had a turbulent season but I just had a feeling tonight we were going to

00:34do it and do it in style. You just look what it means to the town, the community, it's unbelievable.

00:39You can't ride this sort of story. And to score so many goals and put in a performance like

00:45you did must make it even sweeter. I think so, yeah. I said to the boys, I don't just want

00:48to win tonight, I want to win with a true performance. We were amazing, we were always good defensively

00:54and we just showed quality tonight. Offensively, it's unbelievable performance. We just look

01:00dangerous every time we look forward. I had some tough decisions to make tonight, I had

01:04to leave a lot of good players out but sometimes as a manager you've got to go with your gut

01:07and my gut was right tonight. The Scarlet Athletic have obviously given you an incredible challenge

01:14all year. Does that make the title success that much sweeter knowing that you've had

01:19to work so hard throughout the season? Yeah, of course it does. We should have wrapped

01:24this up a while ago but this guard, they've got Gilbert in charge, he's the winner and

01:27he'll fight to the end. Like I said to Dave Deekson, I respect that guy so highly. I tell

01:34it to his face. He's someone I used to look up to as a player and obviously as a manager,

01:39he's won a numerous amount of trophies. To go one step further is obviously a great achievement

01:44but credit to them for pushing us all the way and if they would have won it then I would

01:48have been the same. Congratulations to them. It makes it special when it gets tighter but

01:56I'd like it to have been easier to be honest. I've had some sleepless nights but to do it

02:00like this it's special. Obviously big games need big players and Louis Price stepped up to

02:07play it perfectly, particularly with that second goal which obviously was a moment of magic.

02:10Yeah, Louis is unbelievable and he's just an addiction to scoring goals and playing football

02:15and any team with that, even in the league above what we're playing in the next year or now or two

02:21or whatever. He's just an unbelievable player and he's just a beautiful human being as well which is

02:25more important. Obviously that leads you now into the Challenge Bowl final against Sydney. How do you go about

02:34preparing for that and obviously enjoying this evening first? Sidmouth, I haven't even thought

02:41about it to be honest if you're like that's been the last thing on my mind. We'll enjoy tonight that's

02:45for sure. We ain't going to sleep tonight I'm telling you now so yeah we'll have fun tonight and

02:51I'll worry about Sidmouth next week when my hangover calms down. Okay and obviously a massive crowd here

02:58tonight it shows what Nuukie can become and already is so how exciting is it to know that now you're

03:04up into the next league that you can sort of take this club even further forward. I've always said

03:07Nuukie's a sleeping giant, it's playing well below its level you know with the community and the

03:14population what football means to the town it's massive in Nuukie and it's been hard as a player to

03:20stand by and watch it fizzle away and watch your best players leave because it's not good enough and

03:25them days are gone now they're gone so we're just going to enjoy tonight and then we'll start plotting

03:30next season in a few in a few weeks or whatever. I want all them players to come back pre-season and

03:37you know we'll go from there. Enjoy your night. Thank you mate.
