03:00The Saint Peregrine Laziosi Healing Oil

03:09is dedicated to the 14th century Italian saint

03:13who is the patron saint for cancer.

03:17Peregrine Laziosi was born in 1260

03:21in Forli, Italy,

03:22to a wealthy family.

03:24Although he was a member

03:27of the anti-papal party

03:28as a young man,

03:30he experienced a profound change of heart,

03:33much like Saint Paul's conversion

03:35in its intensity.

03:38He and some companions

03:40showed up one day

03:41to heckle

03:42and otherwise abuse

03:44Saint Philip Benisi,

03:46the prior general

03:47of the Servite Order,

03:49who was preaching in Forli.

03:52Peregrine went so far,

03:53as to strike him in the face.

03:58Saint Philip,

03:59seemingly following

04:00our Lord's advice

04:01in the scripture,

04:03offered his other cheek

04:05in response.

04:08This gesture so moved Peregrine

04:10that he quickly asked

04:12for Philip's forgiveness

04:13and soon thereafter

04:15converted to Catholicism.

04:18Consequently,

04:19this event changed his life

04:21and he joined the Servite Order,

04:23he was ordained

04:25a priest.

04:27He became widely known

04:29for his preaching,

04:31penances,

04:32and counsel

04:33in the confessional.

04:35Peregrine spent the rest

04:36of his life

04:37ministering to the poor

04:39and the sick,

04:41mainly in his hometown

04:42of Forli.

04:43There he established

04:45a new house

04:46for the Servites.

04:49His dedication

04:50to the faith

04:51was such that,

04:53according to tradition,

04:55he would stand

04:55constantly

04:56instead of sitting down

04:58as a form

04:59of penance.

05:04a severe trial

05:05when he developed

05:07a cancerous sore

05:08in his leg

05:08as well as his feet.

05:20Peregrine spent

05:20the night in prayer

05:21before a crucifix

05:22in a hospital chapel.

05:26He received

05:27a vision

05:28of Christ

05:29on the cross,

05:31reaching out

05:31his hand

05:32to touch

05:33his impaired limb.

05:35His cancerous leg

05:37was healed.

05:37The doctors

05:39made the joyful

05:40discovery

05:41that he was

05:42completely cured.
