Mare Sheehan est inspecteur de police à Easttown, une petite ville rurale de Pennsylvanie. Un an après avoir échoué à retrouver une jeune fille disparue, elle se voit confier l'enquête sur le meurtre sordide d'une adolescente de 17 ans, qui met toute la région en émoi. Divorcée et marquée par le suicide de son fils, Mare voit au même moment sa vie personnelle s'effondrer. Dix ans après "Mildred Pierce", Kate Winslet retrouve Guy Pearce dans cette mini-série qui explore la face sombre d'une communauté de l'Amérique profonde.
