00:13The nation's largest seaport in Batangas will soon have its ticket sales transacted online.

00:19So says DOTR head honcho Vince Dizon in a media ambush encounter during his latest inspection tour of the facility.

00:25His move to transition to an e-ticketing system is past due.

00:29Butangas port has for some time now drawn passenger and public ire for its long queues, horrendous or extended waiting hours,

00:37and the irritating and growing presence of unauthorized guides and self-appointed aides

00:42who more often than not scam or squeeze as much money as they can from unwitting tourists and travelers.

00:49In addition, Dizon said this administrative makeover will definitely deter,

00:53even completely eliminate the bane of most passengers seeking a safe and comfortable sail or water travel experience.

01:00Overloading.

01:02Electronically generated tickets affords the Maritime Industry Authority or marina,

01:07the Philippine Ports Authority or PPA,

01:09and Philippine Coast Guard more accurate monitoring of excessive payload or passenger capacity for each one-way trip.

01:16The sprawling 150-hectare area on which the Batangas port stands is on 24-7 operations and service to the public,

01:23with the Philippine Ports Authority having jurisdiction on the facility.

01:27An estimated 1.73 million passengers are expected to transit to and from and swap the port this Holy Week,

01:35up 3.5 percent from last year's figure of 1.67 million port patrons.

01:40The e-ticketing setup is scheduled to kick off later on in December.

01:46Now, road warriors and those getting behind the wheel next week for trips in and out of the megacity, listen up.

01:52The Land Transportation Office is heightening visibility and presence of its people on the road for next week's Lenten observance.

02:00So expect random and surprise checks or inspections along major roadways and in public bus terminals from LTO traffic personnel.

02:07In a region-wide communication, Land Transportation Office Chief Vigor Mendoza II instructed his regional directors and other authorities

02:16to draw up and prep necessary road safety initiatives for the massive Lenten migration out of the megacity next week.

02:24Part of the spot checks on the streets or road inspections are sobriety tests on drivers for illegal drugs and booze

02:31to ensure drivers are physically fit and not mentally impaired.

02:34LTO personnel will also have presence in roads leading to seaports and airports

02:40and receive assistance or backup from local government units.
