00:00Yesterday evening, was it, when Charlie Peters brought it to light for GB News that Labour
00:06have just snuck in on the last day of term, a little change to their policy, just three
00:11months after they said we're going to have these local inquiries instead of a national
00:15inquiry.
00:16I'm just going to scrap those plans now.
00:18We're just going to have a little flexi fund where local authorities can choose if they
00:23want to take part.
00:24Because we know that local authorities are ever so keen to investigate themselves.
00:29And their own actions.
00:31And we can really rely on those local authorities to check behind their own ears.
00:37But there was an excoriating exchange in Parliament yesterday between the Home Office team and
00:44the Shadow Minister, Katie Lam, who highlighted the reticence of some of these councils to
00:51actually instigate these investigations.
00:54The fact that the man the Labour government appointed to lead this stuff hasn't heard
00:59anything about whether or not these investigations have started, these inquiries have started.
01:04And she spoke about some of the most powerful testimony that we've heard in the court transcripts
01:11of some of these convictions.
01:12But it's crazy, isn't it?
01:13Because one of the biggest issues, one of the biggest charges against local authorities
01:19is that they covered up, they didn't hold people accountable, and now they're not going
01:24to be held accountable unless they choose to mark their own homework.
01:27It's total madness.
01:29I do see it as a betrayal of the thousands of victims.
01:32And of course it does seem that this issue has dropped out of the news agenda on other
01:36channels.
01:37There was a time at the start of this year when everyone was talking about this where we
01:40are not giving it up.
01:41We are going to keep the government's feet to the fire on this.
01:44So do stay with us throughout the programme here.
