00:01It's less about the constituents now at the individual level. That'll come.
00:05It's more about the businesses and the cost of inputs.
00:08How bad is it?
00:09You know, it's only beginning to trickle in now.
00:12If you think about when the tariffs were implemented,
00:13you won't see these costs for another week or two as things come on shore.
00:17Of course it concerns me. I mean, my God, it's a stability issue.
00:22You know, businesses hate uncertainty. We've got a lot of uncertainty.
00:24I just hope I'll be asking a question today about who's on point.
00:28You know, in business, you always come up with decisions.
00:31You create one throat to choke.
00:32I'm just trying to figure out who I should compliment or who I should hold accountable.
00:38I think Congress should play a meaningful role when it comes to developing revenue measures,
00:44whether it's taxes or tariffs.
00:47I think the president needs broad discretion to be able to enforce whatever Congress develops and implements.
00:54And so I actually have been working with the administration to give them more tools to implement existing tariff laws.
01:01Well, I think everybody that I've talked to understands the principle of reciprocity.
01:10We want to be treated the same way we treat other countries when it comes to international trade.
01:15Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case for many years.
01:18For example, Texas cattle raisers can't sell a pound of ground beef in Australia,
01:26whereas Australia exports tens of billions of dollars of beef here to the United States.
01:33And that's just one example.
01:34But obviously the questions we're going to have for the trade representative here are, you know, what's the ultimate goal here?
01:41And if the goal is zero tariffs and truly free trade, I think that's a huge win for a president.
01:49But higher prices, are your constituents willing to stomach that?
01:52Well, I think anytime you're going to have a change in the status quo,
01:55there's going to be some disruption by definition.
02:00But I think how this story ends is the most important thing.
02:04And hopefully it ends quickly.
