00:00At 5.51 a.m., there was an explosive eruption of Mount Canlaon in Negros Island.

00:05Let's find out the latest update from PHIVOX Director Teresito Baculcol.

00:10Director, good afternoon.

00:13Good afternoon to you, sir.

00:15Director, what was the activity of Mount Canlaon during this time after the eruption this morning

00:22and how many minutes did the eruption last?

00:26We were not able to follow the eruption earlier

00:30and we did not see an uptick in our monitoring parameters after the eruption.

00:36But it's too early to tell since the eruption just ended.

00:40The eruption earlier reached 56 minutes.

00:46Director, how high was the plume that was released earlier

00:50and what were the areas affected by the ashfall?

00:54The ashfall that was released earlier reached 4 kilometers.

00:59We have reported ashfall in barangays in La Castellana,

01:05in La Carlota City, and in Bago City.

01:11Director, can we expect a stronger eruption of Mount Canlaon at any time?

01:19It can still follow similar short-lived explosive eruptions

01:24or even stronger eruptions.

01:26In fact, the eruption that we saw this morning is a repeat of what we saw last December 9.

01:32The ash column reached 4 kilometers.

01:37Again, just like in December 9.

01:39Since Mount Canlaon is still on alert level 3,

01:46when you say it's on alert level 3,

01:48a hazardous eruption is still a possibility.

01:53what is the alert level of Mount Canlaon?

01:56Is it possible to have a wide lava flow?

01:59What is the possibility and indication to raise the alert level?

02:05Mount Canlaon Volcano is still on alert level 3

02:08and there could be a lava flow.

02:10That is one of the scenarios that we are looking at.

02:13It was only in 1902 that the lava came out of Mount Canlaon Volcano.

02:19Previous eruptions are mostly phreatic eruptions.

02:23When we say phreatic eruptions,

02:25this is water coming into contact with hot volcanic materials

02:28such as hot volcanic rocks or hot gases.

02:32Director, what is your call to those who live near Mount Canlaon?

02:39To our countrymen living around Mount Canlaon Volcano,

02:43we are asking them to remain alert

02:46and to avoid entering the 6-kilometer danger zone.

02:51They have to listen to advisories coming from their LGUs

02:56and of course, coming from our office in PHIVOX.
