Nationals Leader David Littleproud starts campaigning in Bendigo

The Nationals Party leader David Littleproud has today started campaigning in Bendigo in central Victoria.

00:00This is David Littleproud's first election campaign as leader of the National Party.

00:07If the Coalition were to win the federal election, Mr Littleproud would likely become the next

00:13Deputy Prime Minister.

00:15He started his week here in Bendigo in central Victoria, a town or a regional city of more

00:21than 100,000 people and a safe Labor seat.

00:26Mr Littleproud and the Nationals think that they have a red hot chance of gaining ground

00:31in this seat, potentially even winning it.

00:35And they this morning, with the local candidate, the Nationals candidate Andrew Lethleen, have

00:40announced $3.5 million to upgrade this local sporting facility.

00:45Mr Littleproud and Mr Lethleen both drew a link this morning to how that sort of initiative

00:51can help solve problems or tackle problems like youth crime.

00:55You can lean into the infrastructure to help police and local councils be able to equip

01:01the police with the tools they need, but also the social infrastructure to give a purpose

01:06in life for kids to be able to go, you know what, I've got a facility here that encourages

01:11me to come out and be part of the community, be part of a society and to give back.

01:15Since we touched down in Bendigo, we've been asking locals what the big issues are for

01:19them and pretty much everyone we've spoken to has raised the topic of crime.

01:24What's affecting locals is crime from a few months ago up until recently.

01:30Obviously we've seen on the news a lot lately, cars getting stolen, people's houses getting

01:35broken into.

01:36You can drive just down the road and see kids doing bad things all the time.
