Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister said he was still hopeful of finding survivors in the rubble of a building that collapsed during Friday's earthquake, but said that so far on Sunday none had been found.
Anutin Charnvirakul was visiting the site to check on progress as rescue and recovery teams used heavy equipment to pull apart the debris under which workers were buried at a construction site close to the city’s popular Chatuchak Market.
The 7.7 magnitude quake hit midday Friday with an epicenter near Mandalay in neighboring Myanmar, bringing down scores of buildings and killing at least 1,600 people.
