Trump Pressed On April 2nd Tariffs, Says They'll Be 'Much More Generous Than They Were To Us'

In a press gaggle on Air Force One, President Trump was asked about his plans for tariffs on April 2.

00:13Not 10.

00:14I don't know.

00:15Who told you 10 or 15 countries?

00:16Well, we heard that.

00:17So we heard that you were going to aim for the 10 percent.

00:18I heard it.

00:19But you didn't hear it from me.

00:21Okay.

00:22So how many countries will be in that initial trench?

00:23You'd start with all countries.

00:24So let's see what happens.

00:25There are many countries involved.

00:26On the Russians?

00:27I haven't heard a Russian.

00:29I haven't heard a rumor about 15 countries, 10 or 15.

00:32So you're starting with all countries?

00:34Essentially, all of the countries that we're talking about.

00:37I wouldn't be talking about all countries.

00:40It's not a cutoff.

00:41And if you look at the history and you look at what's happened to us, you go to certain

00:47places, go to Asia, and you take a look at every single country in Asia, what they've

00:52done to the United States in trade.

00:55And by the way, in military, in a certain way.

00:58You look at, you take a look at trade with Asia.

01:02And I wouldn't say anybody is treated as fairly or nicely.

01:08And, but we are going to treat them, we're going to be much more generous to them in

01:15terms of heart.

01:16We're going to be much more generous than they were to us.
