00:00We obviously just got the CR for the rest of this fiscal year, but at some point in
00:05the next few weeks or maybe a couple months, depending on timing, you will get the President's
00:09budget request for the upcoming fiscal year.
00:11And I'm curious how you think these department and agency actions combined with whatever
00:16we may see in that budget request are going to impact how you approach the next appropriations
00:21process, especially with labor age?
00:23So critically, when we do our appropriations bills, we have the agency head come before
00:29us on a bipartisan way and get to ask them questions and get their responses and their
00:35answers about their budget request, what they're asking for, and then we make our evaluation
00:41as members of Congress.
00:42It is our job to say, no, you aren't putting enough money in food safety.
00:47You're not putting enough money in NIH.
00:49And we add or subtract according to that.
00:52So I'll be demanding that those secretaries come before our appropriations committees
00:57and explain to us.
00:58They talk about transparency and accountability.
01:00Well, come before our committees.
01:02Be transparent.
01:03Tell us what you're doing.
01:04And we as Congress, whose responsibility it is to allocate funding, will make a decision
01:10about whether or not we agree with that.
