Ghosts actor Jim Howick plays down the fears of the sitcom's demise

'Ghosts' star Jim Howick thinks that the sitcom is alive and well and believes that a new era of great comedies will soon arrive on television.

00:00No, I don't think so. I mean, it depends what you're thinking about traditional sitcom.

00:15I mean, there hasn't been a live studio sitcom in a long time. I think trends sort of come

00:20and go. I think, you know, it's like anything. It's like fashion. It's like music. These

00:24things sort of evolve around. And before long, I'm sure there'll be a number of sort of studio

00:29sitcoms, if that's the more traditional ones. We've had a lot of single camera sitcoms.

00:34And I don't think anything's I don't think it's under threat as far as the style is concerned.

00:40I think, you know, there's a danger it might be a threat as far as funding's concerned.

00:44But that's another matter.

00:46I mean, I think it's the characters, really, I think that's kind of what's key to it. I

01:00think that establishing a family with characters from different points in time, different sensibilities,

01:08different ethics, you know, making them, creating a family dynamic with perfect strangers.

01:16I think that's what's sort of appealing to people. That's what's appealing to families.

01:27I'll never say never, you know, because I really miss doing it. But I don't think it

01:33will return in its sort of like sitcom format if it does return.

01:45We finished filming the new series, Series 3, in December. And then we've got another

01:53series coming out, filming another series next year.
