00:00There's no such thing as a peaceful revolution. There's no such thing as a bloodless revolution.

00:05My father didn't know his last name. My father got his last name from his grandfather and

00:31his grandfather got it from his grandfather who got it from the slave master. The real

00:35names of our people were destroyed during slavery.

01:05The prisons aren't set up to rehabilitate Negroes. They're set up to perpetuate the

01:13criminal tendencies of Negroes.

01:31My personal political philosophy is black nationalism, which means that the black man

01:36should control the politics of his own community and control the politicians who are in his

01:40own community.

01:45We don't advocate violence, but our people have been the constant victims of brutality

01:50on the part of America's racists and the government has found itself either unwilling or unable

01:54to do anything about it. So out of necessity, we've reached the point now where our people

02:00must form self-defense units.

02:10I'm as much against integration as the white people in New York City are, but I am also

02:15against segregation and I'm for separation.

02:31You call this a nonviolent movement?

02:35Nonviolent is a word that's misused today. I would call it a peaceful movement, which

02:41reserves the right to defend itself whenever it is attacked.
