Heart Transplant Recipient Meets Donor's Family

By total chance, a heart transplant recipient met his donor's family at a baseball game. Watch their emotional encounter. ️

00:00It was really just like hugging my brother again.

00:04It was just the feeling of like closing my eyes and realizing, you know, this is my brother's heart.

00:10And, you know, it was like hugging him again.

00:13It was truly, truly amazing.

00:31I wrote back and in that letter I put,

00:35John, you now have a heart of pure gold.

00:38I said, I've enclosed some pictures of my brother because I want you to put a face to your new heart

00:43because I wanted him to know how handsome my brother was.

00:46And how, you know, I just told him how awesome he was.

00:49I told him about my brother, told him about us as a family.

01:01My sister-in-law made me shirts for the game on Sunday.

01:04And she put a picture on the front of the shirt.

01:08I hear in the background, are you Donovan's family?

01:12And I just thought it was somebody he went to school with or somebody that he worked with,

01:16somebody I knew and they wanted to express their condolences, you know.

01:19And next thing you know, you hear, my husband has his heart, we have his heart.

01:27And we were like, no freaking way.

01:30So it was just instant tears and instant, just like the biggest hug I think I've ever given somebody in my life.

01:37I closed my eyes and if you look in the video, he kind of puts his hand over, you know, all of our heads,

01:43over our ears so we could try to listen as best we could.

01:47And it's just incredible, it's amazing.

01:50And, you know, to know that we finally, you know, by chance, found, you know, the man that has his heart,

01:59it's just, you know, unbelievable, unbelievable.

02:03So, I mean, it's really just like having a newfound family because they're so willing to keep in contact,

02:10which is amazing because that's exactly what we wanted.

02:14My brother is a hero and so are all the organ donors because he was so giving and so loving

02:21and he's still giving even in death.

02:24Yes, you know, we lost our brother, but he got a second chance at life.

02:29Organ donation is such an important, important thing for not only the recipient family,

02:38but also the donor family because, I mean, the video really just says it all.

02:43So, I think that's the coolest thing about this is really showing my brother lives on in somebody else

02:51and how awesome organ donation really truly is.
