00:00I was raised by a feminist mother.
00:05I think if you take care of the women,
00:08the mothers, the daughters, the women,
00:11then the whole family benefits.
00:13I don't set goals.
00:30I basically now just follow my heart.
00:32You know, it's that kind of simple.
00:43When you're starting off and you're younger,
00:57it's more like you're curious and hungry
00:59and it's like, you know, the world is your oyster.
01:43This film is dealing with relationships,
02:08it's dealing with religion and death
02:11and big, serious topics.
02:14We're both actors also and I think we handle it very well.
02:16We work well together, we're used to working well together,
02:19but definitely the subject matter,
02:23we knew it was going to be intense.
02:41Nicole Kidman's dad was a psychologist
02:50and that's anathema to the church
02:52and so they must have seen that as a threat.
02:55So we know for a fact that the church tried very hard
03:01to break up their marriage
03:03and the church tried very hard to turn Nicole's kids against her.
03:12The Academy Award, I suppose for me at that time,
03:40was incredibly comforting, if that makes sense,
03:44because I was in a place of distress.
03:46I wasn't in a great place in my life
03:49and there was comfort that at least in my work,
03:55I was doing something right.
03:58I think I was pregnant with Sunday
04:00and I was like, I'm going to give up acting, I'm done,
04:03it's too much, I want to have the baby,
04:05I just said that's it.
04:07My mum was like, don't do that.
04:09She said, take some time off, but don't give it up.
04:28I'm here as Goodwill Ambassador to learn
04:33so that I can help your country at this time,
04:38in its crucial, crucial time actually, in its future,
04:42and to meet people and to be able to hear the stories
04:49and basically educate myself
04:53and I suppose be a voice for you if you need it.

05:36As an actor, you're only as good
05:38as the opportunities you're given.
05:40A lot of the times it's why I then went and did something,
05:43say like Big Little Lies, because I could produce that
05:46and find that and make that happen.

06:06I've been working for two decades for UN Women
06:09trying to eradicate violence against women.
06:12It is so hard to be heard amongst all the noise
06:16and so I think right now we have the chance to be heard.

06:30I mean, I don't. There's a film I'm trying to get made now
06:33and we can't get it made. Do you know?
06:35So it depends how you define power
06:38and there's always limits to what you can do.

06:53A lot of things scare me, but I try to push through that.
