The life of Lewis Hamilton

He is the first and only Black driver in Formula 1. Now he's a seven-time champion.   This is Lewis Hamilton.

00:00I grew up in a sport that has really given my life meaning.

00:05I'm so, so grateful for what it's provided me.

00:09But I've actually grown up in a sport that has very little to no diversity

00:13and I think it's an issue that we're continually facing.

00:30Yes, I've won this seventh title, but we have another big, big fight to win

00:41and that's for racial equality across the board.

01:00Since a kid, I always had problems at school,

01:13from either being the last one that's picked in the team

01:17to being the one that's picked on from the teachers

01:20to being racially abused.

01:30I'll be racing Formula One from now on.

01:51To have Ron's support all this time,

01:54what an opportunity he gave me at 13 years old

01:57to make my way to Formula One.

02:11It was an incredible feeling, obviously,

02:14that was achieving your lifelong goal.

02:27This one definitely feels sweeter than the first,

02:40but I guess it's probably just because I'm older.

03:40I always question why can't it be sooner?

03:42Why do we have to wait for ten more years of motor racing

03:46for them to make the changes?

03:48They've got the finances to implicate it sooner,

03:52the technology is there to make it sooner,

03:54so why not?

04:20I can probably count on one hand

04:22people of colour that are in this sport.

04:48I feel like I have this responsibility.

04:51I'd like to help, so that's my goal.

05:07You can always rise above the difficulties

05:11and there's nothing that you can't do

05:14if you put your mind to it,
