Here is how Rob Greenfield managed to move away from consumerism.

00:00No shoes, no shirt, you know, to the average person I look like a naked wild man in the bush.
00:12So this is my toilet paper. I haven't bought toilet paper for about five years.
00:17It's nice and soft, it's as soft as can be, and it even has a really nice smell to it.
00:31I'm very much a minimalist. I like to keep things really simple.
00:37So the clothes kind of represent that.
00:40It's getting rid of all the frivolous in life, and all that's unnecessary
00:45and doesn't serve me and everyone else to a higher purpose.
00:49And that's this example here, just simplifying life so that I can do what I want
00:54rather than make a new life.
00:57It doesn't feel right to me. While there's so many people in the world who don't have enough,
01:02it doesn't feel right to me to have too much.
01:05It doesn't feel right to me. While there's so many people in the world who don't have enough,
01:18it doesn't feel right to me to have too much.
01:22We live in a time that's very visually oriented, I believe.
01:28Whether it's photo or video, people tend to get their messages through something that's visual,
01:36for things to click in their mind.

01:43Whether it's photo or video, people tend to get their messages through something that's visual,
01:51for things to click in their mind.
02:09It's about creating community. It's about bringing people closer together.
02:13It's not me, me, me, me, you, you, you, you.
02:18It's working together.
02:29Here, there's not a single thing from the supermarket.
02:33This is 100% food that I actually grew in my garden.
02:37This summer, or that I foraged from fruit trees,
02:42growing in basically urban foraging, abandoned lots and parks and such.
02:48I'm doing this because it's an extreme thing that will get people thinking,
02:53that will inspire people.
02:55And my hope is not that other people are going to go out and want to grow and forage 100% of their food.
03:01My goal is just to get people to want to grow one thing.
03:05To start with just a tomato plant and a basil on their balcony.
03:09Or to have a little front yard raised bed garden.
03:13To start somewhere and help people start this path of feeling just a little bit more connected
03:21with our food source, with what gives us life, and with the earth as a whole.
