00:00We need you. We need your voices, your abilities, and your strength all over this world.
00:11Her work ethic is by far the most inspiring side of who she is and her team as well.
00:17Her involvement is really around understanding what's going on on the ground.
00:21I am Rukayat Tukosi from Nigeria.
00:23I'm a young changemaker.
00:25I'm passionate about quality education for all and advancing women's rights.
00:30I'm a young changemaker.
00:32I'm passionate about quality education for all and advancing women's rights.
00:37The biggest challenge is obviously unemployment.
00:39The unemployment rate on the continent is extremely high,
00:42so we always try and find ways in which we can mitigate that and assist them on that journey to,
00:47you know, reach out to our stakeholders and key partners to say,
00:50look, this is a potential candidate that we feel could possibly work in your organization.
00:54How can we make that collaboration happen?
01:00How can we make that collaboration happen?
01:04Over four years, 50 young people will each engage in a paid year-long fellowship
01:10aligned to one of Global Citizens' four pillars of activity.
01:14We are just so thrilled because we are calling to let you know that
01:19you have been selected as one of the fellows.
01:22Join the program and change your K-1! Congratulations!
01:25Oh my god, I'm dreaming!
01:27Thank you so, so much.
01:29Thank you so much, Global Citizens.
01:31This means a lot to me.
01:32Thank you so much.
01:41To invest in children is to invest in education.
01:44And education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind, think and act.
01:50An experience that has inspired me to give others access to quality education
01:55was when I lost my dad at the age of 12.
01:58At the point, I felt like that was the end for me and there was no moving forward.
02:02But over the years, I enjoyed this good lot of people around me similarly and joined in.
02:15We have these young, bright minds coming on board and joining our organization.
02:21And what's so wonderful to see is their passion in terms of how they want to
02:27help eradicate extreme poverty based on their
02:30passion points and their social issues that they want to address.
02:33So they're quite clear in terms of, you know, I'm advocating for women and girls in my community
02:38or, you know, I'm advocating for climate change in my community
02:41and they really want to make a difference.
02:43We will cover topics like design thinking, stakeholder management, how to negotiate,
02:50how to conduct yourself in a meeting.
02:51But we also have these opportunities to invite key stakeholders and leaders to form part of
02:57masterclasses that are specific to certain campaigning pillars within our organization.
03:02So we have, you know, talks with people from citizens, from NGOs, from NGOs,
03:09you know, talks with people from citizenship background, international development background,
03:16and they help these fellows, you know, unpack their personal journey and personal development.
03:23So the outcome for them really is that they leave us with skills,
03:27they leave with an updated CV and they get to then, you know,
03:32go out there and identify where exactly do they want to fit in,
03:35where do they want to be placed when it comes to work.
03:38It has been engaging and inspiring because I'm always thinking beyond my environment
03:44and think of how my actions can affect our world as a global community.
