The story behind the world records set by Flo-Jo: the fastest woman to ever live.

And the newcomers closing in ...
Transcript
00:00Their queen of the track, Florence Griffith Joyner, is here, the fastest woman on earth with the Hollywood style.
00:1621.34 is the world and Olympic record held by Flojo Silt from 1988. Remarkable, isn't it?
00:23A lot of the women's records are so far out of reach.
00:30But I think everything would have to go perfect for those records to be broken.
00:39She was called Flojo and the fastest woman in the world after setting records for the 100 and 200 meter races in 1988.
01:05Those records still stand to this day.
01:08Relaxation, which was the key to me winning three gold medals.
01:37And a silver and so he kept saying, Florence, you have to be relaxed.
01:40You have the speed, you have the potential to be the best in the world, but you're fighting yourself.
02:07That accusation, it hurt me, but it didn't bother me.
02:26I know that I'm a champion. I am anti drug.
02:29I do not use drugs. I do not know anybody that does.
03:00We have to keep this sport clean.
03:02And I'm just glad that there are more scientific approaches to catch the athletes who are trying to cheat.
03:07That's not what this sport is all about.
03:18I think everything would have to go perfect for those records to be broken.
03:21From the wind would have to be a Tim Montgomery type wind.
03:26To the start would have to be a Tim Montgomery type start.
03:29I'd have to have my eggs cooked just the way I like them in the morning and everything would have to go right.
03:35But I still think it's possible with the right conditions, the right track, the right people in the race.
03:41Who knows what could happen?
03:53I'm hoping that come the next couple of years that female athletes will definitely get that credit for always showing up and producing good times.
04:04To run this Olympic record tonight, I think that sends out a signal, a warning that anything is possible.
04:12Eventually, those time will erase.
04:14Even if it takes five, four years, they will erase slowly.
