AOC rebels, votes "no" on reopening the gov't

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez again was the only Democrat to vote against a bill to reopen government. Funding ICE had something to do with it.

00:00Boats were just called so we're walking to the house floor.

00:30What we need to realize and remember is that ICE was established in 2003, right at the

00:38same time as the Patriot Act, the AUMF, the Iraq War.

00:42And we look back at a lot of that time and legislation as a mistake now.

00:47And I think that ICE is right there as a part of it.

00:50Unfortunately, you know, the president's created this situation where ICE isn't doing what

00:54it was created to do.

00:55It's being used as his own personal police force.

00:58And in those actions, it's actually making us less safe because the critical functions

01:04of ICE can no longer happen when the president's got them going after people in churches and

01:08workplaces.

01:10It's just been made a mess.

01:11I don't think ICE today is working as intended.

01:14You think you should get rid of the agency?

01:15I believe that it has become a deportation force.

01:21And I think you should separate the criminal justice from the immigration issues.

01:25And I think you should reimagine ICE under a new agency with a very different mission.

01:35I just think that if you abolish ICE as it is, as an executive agency, it reflects the

01:39policies of the White House, of the president.

01:42You abolish ICE now, you still have the same president with the same failed policies.

01:47Whatever you replace it with is just going to still reflect what this president wants

01:50to do.
