The Ocean Cleanup project is revealing its limitations

It was one of the big hopes for 2019, but it seems that cleaning up the Great Pacific Garbage Patch will take longer than anticipated.

00:42to us, using very long floating barriers, which sort of float around, to let the ocean

00:48clean itself, by using the natural ocean currents in our advantage.

01:17Every year, millions of tons of plastic enters the oceans, and it then concentrates in five

01:22areas in the world, called ocean garbage patches.

01:25And the largest one of these is the infamous Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

01:41Turns out, we can actually clean up 50% of this garbage patch, in just five years' time.
