00:00Jana and Stephen's wedding was a lot of fun.

00:02It was so much fun.

00:04Joy Anna Duggar and Ginger Duggar

00:06are opening up about celebrating their oldest sister,

00:08Jana, Say I Do.

00:09The sisters joined forces for a wide-ranging Q&A

00:12on the latest episode of the Ginger and Jeremy podcast,

00:15where they opened up about their family and more.

00:17They talked about everyone getting together in Arkansas

00:19back in August for Jana's wedding to Stephen Wissman

00:21and how the big day was attended by so many loved ones.

00:24The wedding was small in our minds.

00:27It was small.

00:28How many was it?

00:28500?

00:30But it was like for Duggar, you know, weddings.

00:33And then she also married into a large family.

00:36So even with just our two families coming together,

00:38there were a lot of people,

00:40but she kept it more intimate.

00:42And so it felt like you were able to get around,

00:44talk to people, our closest friends were there

00:47from like who we grew up with, you know,

00:49and it was such a sweet time.

00:52So I feel like whenever you have those moments

00:54where everybody's back together, it's super special.

00:58And then you have like your old friends, the crew,

01:01all these people, I don't know.

01:02There was something really sweet

01:03about Jana and Stephen's wedding that I just, I loved.

01:08With such a big family,

01:09it's rare to get everyone together in one place.

01:12Ginger lives in Los Angeles

01:13and she described just how much of a frenzy it can be,

01:15reconnecting with everyone when she's back in her hometown.

01:18I will take those days, however many days it is,

01:22and just go meet up with as many people as I possibly can.

01:27And I usually leave that time so exhausted,

01:31like so excited that I was able to have that time,

01:34but also completely wiped.

01:35Jeremy just knows to expect it

01:37because there's so much energy, motion, all these things,

01:42because we're going nonstop.

01:44Because living away, I don't get to see a lot of them.

01:49Ginger went on to explain

01:50how even if she has the better half of a week in Arkansas,

01:53that time can hardly feel enough.

01:54If you're there for five days,

01:56that seems like a lot of time.

01:57Yeah.

01:58But when you have 19 siblings

01:59and then you have the in-laws with that,

02:02like their spouse, and then you said 39 grandkids,

02:08I struggle to remember all the names of the grandkids.

02:11Oh, yes.

02:12I have most of them down, but there are just a couple.

02:15And the newer ones, they're more added all the time.

02:19So I feel that pressure and like,

02:22it's not, no one else is putting it on me.

02:24Juliana only lives 35 minutes away

02:26from her family members in Arkansas,

02:28but even for her, staying connected and up to date

02:30with every family member can be just as challenging.

02:33It's definitely hard to keep up with all the siblings

02:35because I was telling somebody,

02:37somebody asked me the same question.

02:38I was like, if we had one sibling over a week,

02:42it would take 19 weeks to get through everybody.

02:46Yeah.

02:47Like, that's a lot of time that goes by.

02:49And anyway, so I feel like we connect.

02:54I think we naturally connect with some more than others.

02:57And whether it's, we go to church together,

03:00we'll see them or whatever.

03:02And then some of us just,

03:04I'm really close to a couple of the sister-in-laws.

03:06So we see each other quite a bit working out together.

03:09Juliana says that she's currently found a balance

03:11by having different siblings over a few times a year.

03:14Honestly, it's probably once every six months

03:16we'll have one of the siblings to our house.

03:18Like we'll rotate.

03:19So every six months we'll have whatever,

03:21Joe and Kendra over, or we'll have another sibling over,

03:24or we'll go to their house to hang out.

03:26And so it is definitely hard.

03:28Cause all of us are,

03:29we all have our own friend groups.

03:32And you're seeing them at like church,

03:34you'll see like, or you'll go out to lunch after church.

03:36Birthday parties,

03:37like we'll see each other randomly here and there,

03:40but it's not like we all hang out all the time.

03:43While family dynamics have evolved over the years,

03:45Juliana and Ginger have gotten even closer.

03:47Even while being thousands of miles apart.

03:49Ginger explained why this chapter of life

03:51has allowed them to connect more deeply.

03:53Even though we live further away than we did,

03:56you know, in our same bedroom.

03:59Yes.

04:00I'm just like 10 feet away.

04:02I'm just saying.

04:03It's different because when you walk through life

04:05and you're in the same season of life.

04:07Yes.

04:08There is a sweetness and there are also trials.

04:11You walk through the same trials

04:13and like growing up in the same family,

04:16it just kind of,

04:18there are things that you are experiencing

04:22that you can talk about with your sister.

04:24And I feel like we also don't,

04:28we don't have as many like,

04:30I don't know how to say it, walls up.

04:31Like we're more chill and we're more real

04:34about what we're walking through

04:36than we ever have been.

04:38And that's what's really cool.

04:40Juliana had the same perspective on it

04:42and shared that motherhood really helped bring them closer.

04:44We really haven't connected, connected

04:46until since having kids really.

04:48Yeah.

04:49And then even then,

04:52I feel like we both had,

04:55I have a very similar testimony to you

04:58of having my walls up

04:59and I felt like I had to have it all together.

05:02And I feel like in the last three years,

05:05I've really learned that we all have problems

05:08and we all have struggles and we're all a mess.

05:13And, you know, motherhood is hard.

05:16And I feel like you've learned that.

05:18And just to be real with people.

05:20And I feel like for both of us,

05:21it's helped us in our relationship,

05:23just to be honest and open.

05:24Juliana also spoke about Ginger's book,

05:26Becoming Free Indeed,

05:28my story of disentangling faith from fear

05:30and shared how it helped her better understand

05:32the ways in which her faith and personal beliefs

05:34diverge from the teachings of her upbringing.

05:36I think there was a lot of questions

05:37from the teachings that we grew up in

05:40that you broke down,

05:42that I had never thought through that in depth.

05:44Because I knew I didn't believe it,

05:45but I never had studied,

05:47oh, well, what parts do I not believe?

05:49What parts were based, you know,

05:51or what parts had good things?

05:53Because you don't throw everything out.

05:55You're not gonna throw Jesus out.

05:56You're not gonna throw, you know, your faith out.

05:59But what parts do you not believe?

06:01And like you said, the untangling,

06:02I really liked that.

06:03Yeah.

06:05And so for me, I think I did a lot of that.

06:08And that really helped me work through the specifics of,

06:12oh, I need to work through these things.

06:13It helped prompt a lot of questions

06:14that prompt a lot of studying

06:16and just conversation between Austin and I.

06:19Austin is Juliana's husband,

06:20and he's close with Ginger's husband, Jeremy.

06:23Though their sense of humor can sometimes make it seem

06:25like that's not the case.

06:26Jeremy and Austin, everybody always thinks

06:28that they hate each other for some reason online.

06:31No, not everybody. Austin.

06:31No, I'm kidding.

06:32Not everybody.

06:33Some people don't get their humor.

06:35It's because they're both really funny in their own way.

06:39Extremely sarcastic.

06:40And then they'll say things,

06:42and then they won't clarify that it's a joke.

06:44Yes.

06:45And we have to say, eventually, they're joking.

06:48No, you don't have to say,

06:49but you feel compelled to say, yeah.

06:50Ginger feels like she has to say,

06:51she has to say they're joking.

06:52At this point,

06:53You don't anymore.

06:54I used to constantly,

06:56Ginger, this is something you need to learn.

06:57No, I'm kidding.

06:58But I used to constantly, Austin would say something,

07:02and I would come behind him and be like,

07:03guys, really, it's okay, it's okay, it's okay.

07:05Damage control, damage control.

07:06And now I'm just like, whatever.

07:08I don't, I'm too busy for that.

07:10If they don't get it, it's fine.

07:12Joanna and Ginger also shared their goals

07:14for the upcoming year,

07:15and both are focused on family.

07:17We are hoping to buy some land this year

07:20and build a house.

07:21So that's like a huge goal for us.

07:25And then as far as that,

07:28I mean, we just want to be consistent

07:30with the kids and ministry.

07:32So there's, I think that's pretty much all of our big goals.

07:35I love it.

07:36Big goals for me, have this baby.

07:40That's a big goal.

07:40That's what I thought you were going to say,

07:41is have a baby.

07:42Oh my word, have the baby,

07:44and then figure out what to do after that.

07:47Ginger is currently expecting a baby boy,

07:49and she shared the mindset she has

07:50going into this new chapter.

07:52I think a goal for me is honestly not to pressure myself

07:56to have to do everything by the book

07:59or as other people may assume it should be done.

08:03Yes.

08:04In those newborn stages.

08:07And just to figure out what works for us in that season.

08:10So I don't get back to that place

08:11where I just feel like so overwhelmed

08:13or like the fears of postpartum depression,

08:16all that come around.

08:18And I just don't want that to circulate again.

08:21So I think just setting realistic goals for myself,

08:24okay, if that comes back up, it's okay.

08:26I don't have to nurse as long as I did with the girls

08:29or like change things up.

08:31So being okay with change,

08:32I think is something that I'm trying to prepare myself for.
